Hiya...the names Rain and Ive been playing the clarinet for about...six years. This year I was named 1st chair and section leader, and let me tell you I am not the type to lead a section ^ ^. I'm a junior in h.s and lovin it. This is the third h.s Im in now...ready to be the new kid next year, at my fourth school. I heard the marching program at the school Im going to is tough...but one of the best. I saw one of their shows on youtube...and wow its good. The band is huge and alot more clarinets...soo theres a good chance I wont be section leader next year. Oh well...I'll just glad to be part of the band ^ ^. ((I named my clarinet Lulu btw))

Hiya, I was here about a year ago but left. Now I'm back and wish to say hi again! I've been playing clarinet for two years (yeah, I don't have that much experience >.<). I'm a freshmen in high school. I'm last chair in band(but I'm in the Wind Symphony, not sure if that counts for anything). The marching band at our school is decent, and we have a fairly decent amount of clarinets(uh, I think 15?). I have a Buffet R-13, and his name is Sebastian. smile

i was the WORST clarinet player you've EVER seen. my freshman year my band director once said "its not you, its your face" which made me feel better.
by junior year they stopped making me try out for concert season and just GAVE me last chair. x)
by senior year i just played double bass for concert season and oh boy i was actually good at that haha.

Wow, so many clarinetists! I feel like I'm a part of something xD I'm a freshman at Elgin High School. I've been playing for five years, and still on my plastic clarinet (i know, that's bad!) My clarinet is named Alfonzo. The band periods are my favorite of the day, and even marching band camp is fun (don't you love that tan???) I've tried playing different instruments, but i love the clarinet too much to quit whee

(Sorry for the double psot, but nobody has posted in like forever)
So earlier I wrote here that my plastic clari was messed up, where the two keys were too close and gtting stuck. Well, first tried bending it myself, but the key was too thick. So i asked my parents if we couldt ake tit to the shop. As usual, their answer was "no, use your other one"(My other one being my wooden, the need of using it being a parade we are dong in less then 2 weeks) So, without anything else to do, I decided I'd try taking the keys off and seeing if there was anythign pushing the keys together. Well, there wasn't, but I noticed that when i went and screwed them back in, they were fine up until the last couple of turns. I also noticed both screws were extremely tight inside their holes, and i actually had to get a small tool to grasp them to pull them out and it took a bit of pushing to put them back. I decided i would try swiching the screws to see if maybe that helped the size problem. Turns out it helped both the size problem and the closeness problem. The keys are still pretty close, but theres enough space between them that i can play it fine without squeaking or hesitating between B and C. Which is really good cause one of the parade sogns we are doing trills between those. I still want to take it in, but I'm pretty proud of myself that i found even just a temporary solution^-^

What pieces are you guys currently working on? I'm doing the 1st movement of Concerto no. 1 by Weber for solo & ensemble on Saturday (plus Trio opus 26 by Kummer) and I'm learning Solo de Concours by Messager because my teacher wants me to.

Haha, that's weird. Maybe. Our school had chairs in middle school. Anyways, I haven't posted in this forum in like six months, so I suppose it'd be good to reintroduce myself. I'm Mai. I've been playing clarinet for two years. I'm a freshmen, and I'm last chair in our school's Wind Symphony.
I'm working on Weber Clarinet Concerto No. 1 for fun. Then for band: Entry March of the Boyars by Johan Halvorsen, it's an absolutely lovely march that sort of reminds me of the nutcracker. Lincolnshire Posy Mvmt. 1, 2, 5, 6, and possibly 4 by Percy Grainger, wonderfully amazing piece of wind band literature. Percy Grainger is my hero. Angels in Architecture by Frank Ticheli.... Epic.

Hey guys I need some help:
Well, now that i finally managed to figure out my allstate etudes(luckily I still have a week to perfect it) I need a new challenge. Allstate results won't be posted until maybe the following week if I'm lucky, so I need a challenge until then.
I figure this would be a good place to ask if anyone could suggest anything challenging to paly; you guys are fellow clarinets and can therefore judge challenging vs overly easy. I really want a piece I have to work at, so the harder the better. Also, my parents have this anonoying mentality that sheet music is a useless expense when I have school band so they refuse to actually buy me music, so I would prefer a piece that I can get on the internet for free. Unless someone knows of a good book full of different difficult pieces. My parents are better at buying full books but bsolutely refuse single pieces.
By the way; anyone got any suggestions to tell a certain stuck-up overdramatic clarinet player that she needs to stop yelling at me when I gently correct her? (when she does so to me, rather rudely, all the time. On stuff I'm actually playing right and she is playing wrong, as emphasized by the bd in later reiews of the section)

Haaaaaaay. I picked up the clarinet in 10th grade and joined marching band the following year playing it. It is a great love of mine, that instrument. :3
Except I eventually and sadly switched to tenor sax because the section drove me absolutely freaking nuts. I felt unwelcome and like everyone thought I sucked and nobody wanted to be friendly to me, even though they were just a small handful of times the entire marching season.
Now that I think about it they were probably just trying to avoid overwhelming me but it still hurt. :[ Anyway, regardless, I did love the time that I had and I may just be playing clarinet again in college.

They're a bunch of great études to work at. It's where the all-state études come from here in Texas. The two fast ones were on page 75 and page 88. They're difficult to perfect. This book is used by a ton of clarinetists, so I really recommend buying it. This is what it looks like: http://www.amazon.com/Artistic-Studies-French-School-Clarinet/dp/B000O8V868/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1299728526&sr=8-3
