Alexi Terianis Caleidah Kaori Kapoigne Thats right, show those forum newbies that they arent the bomb yet, they has to earn it first 3nodding
Hm...it would seem that he climbed back into his hole...Actually, I went on vacation. ...though I'm curious. A newbie? Do I really count as such? Perhaps it's my clothing? I'm not sure. In any case, it may be that you speak a little too soon yourself. No, my assumptions were made with a 1v1 match in mind. I do not believe you would have won without the marine support, but your army was obviously supported. Therefor, a chance at victory. By the way you talk, you seem to have succeeded. But really. Newbie? I've been here a whole year longer than my good man Caliedah. It doesn't matter, but still. Seems to me that's an odd name to throw around, isn't it? Edit: Perhaps this is a bit more suitable for your tastes?
It wasn't me that called you a newb, Alexi. I merely stated that you hadn't appeared for a while after the post. I tend to accuse people of climbing into holes when they disappear from a thread.
It would seem that we all need to take a few steps back and breathe before diving back into this.

No need for things to get personal. neutral On either side.
Back on topic... Is it worth the points in a standard-sized table to get indirect fire for Basilisks?

Only if you're going to be playing something that's very much a sit/shoot army. It also helps if you know that you're going to be playing a terrain heavy board.
Other than that, no. Its 25 points that you could spend well in other places.

I dunno, I'd opine that if you had a heavy weapons team or two defending Basilisks that you'd be able to do pretty well. Their weapons templates are huge, and you could use it to take out stubborn infantry or heavily clustered infantry.

Arguably, Kaori, so do the people who have been in the thread a while. ninja
I always buy indirect fire, actually. Not because I feel that it is needed or not needed, but because it's a tactical option I would otherwise not have. The ability to force large enemy concentrations out of relative safety and require them to engage my army as a whole makes the ability extremely important to me.
Then again, as Serebrate mentioned, I almost always field a large fire-base. I normally have as many as three or four weapons teams to support my infantry and armored advance. When I use my basilisk (which is sometimes rather rare, actually) it's the core of that firebase, and also the bait that forces my enemy into my teeth.

In my experience, heavy weapons teams are pretty delicate when I've played against them, and even armor is a bit impractical in games under a thousand points; pure or almost-pure infantry has worked well for me.

DarkElf27 In my experience, heavy weapons teams are pretty delicate when I've played against them, and even armor is a bit impractical in games under a thousand points; pure or almost-pure infantry has worked well for me. Agreed. But a single tank carries enough firepower and armor, especially if 'Leman Russ' is somewhere in the name, to pull some enemy troops away from the real objective. It doesn't always work, but at 1000 points, it does tend to scare the crap out of an enemy who is used to fighting only infantry, or at best, light vehicles. It never works against eldar or dark eldar, though. They'll just knock it over in stride. I've found it will make most space marines piss themselves, though! mrgreen As for heavy weapons...I tend to use them to center my line. I'm aware of how vulnerable they are, but they're too useful to keep at home. To have them firing down on the objective means that most of my standard infantry can be rushing the objective with assault weapons, which generally means that I can easily outnumbered whatever they meet there, and still have the firepower to clean up. But, if they ignore the heavy guns, or they're somewhat less than effective, well...I'm again out of luck. This tends to work HORRIBLY against space marines, by the way. But pretty well against eldar or dark eldar. Sometimes, orks, but there are still plenty too many orks on the objective normally. It requires variations, which I haven't gotten down yet. Curse those big shootas.

Or, if you're willing to spend a few more points, I've found that Demolishers are far more terrifying, especially in small battles. With the use of Plasma Cannons/Lascannon, you can keep on rolling and whittle away at enemy infantry pretty easily. Or, if you know that they'll be fielding armor, charging them with a Multi-Melta toting Demolisher can be pretty frickin' handy.

I have one of each of those setups, and I normally field both together. It's extremely expensive, but the extra armor, hellish firepower, and simply fear-inspiring aura those things have, they work as a near-unstoppable spearhead on any assault. I've even gone so far as to name them, they do so well. I'm not going to lie, though. You've never seen a demolisher strut its stuff until you've taken it into a city. I'll leave that one to all of your memories, or your imaginations, if you haven't been lucky enough. twisted

Actually, I'm going to be picking up City Fight on Monday, provided that my orders come in as expected. I'm really looking forward to it and it might result in a total renaissance and return of my Guard army. I feel like filling the streets with the sound of grinding tracks and marching feet.

It's a much different game in the city, the brutality of it increases tenfold. It's great fun. twisted Though, be careful. When I lose in the city, normally I get wiped clean off the board. The place really is a meatgrinder, especcially if you're going for the same place your enemy is. Never underestimate a hellhound, though!

Well, I'm finally getting around to assembling my third Leman Russ, but I'm not sure how I should configure it. I already have a Vanquisher with a heavy bolter, and a Exterminator with three heavy bolters and a heavy stubber, but I don't know what I should do with my third one. Should I have it be dedicated towards anti-armour, or anti-tank? What would best benefit me?
