"It's not that bad," she said, shaking her head at him and smiling. "Nothing's as good as your cooking." But it was a government run place, they couldn't expect everyone to be a chef.
Good, not too busy. She settled in a chair next to Dari.

Dari spun back and forth gently in is chair, watching the two interact. He was still so proud of himself for finally getting those two together.
"Why, thank you," Toby said. "So, before I lose my ability to speak, what would everyone like to do tonight?"
Dari tilted his head slightly. "While I appreciate the inclusion, you know I'll just be taking your post."
"Yeah, well..."

"We could see the stars," Maia suggested. There wasn't really much else to do, in an empty HQ. Toby couldn't really play tennis in werewolf form, he'd look ridiculous. "I brought a book for later too."

Toby nodded. Sure. Their last stargazing adventure during a transformation had really been rather nice. They could go skinny-dipping too if they felt like it, although Maia had the choice whether she wanted to be "skinny" or not.
"Oh, a book? Which one?"
Another smile from Dari. She was reading so well now!

Maia moved from her seat, going over to Toby. "It's a surprise," She said, kissing him again. She reached up to undo his tie for him. Maybe they could swim? Dari would be busy, but it'd certainly be an experience, swimming with Toby in wolf form.

Maia's gentle movement struck Toby's gut like ice. Was it almost time? He eyed the USA countdown. Yeah. Yeah, it was soon. He smiled to Maia instead and admired her gentleness, allowing her to begin undressing him.

Maia started unbuttoning his shirt after removing his suit jacket. "I love you," she said, stealing another kiss before returning to her spot next to Dari. She hated this. She would have done anything to make it painless for him.

Were anyone else watching it likely would have seemed erotic to have a young woman undressing a jacketed man so slowly, but there was nobody else.
"I love you too," he said softly and stood to undo his belt and unbutton his pants.
Somehow he felt so alone, and mere feet from the two most important people in his life.
It started in the gut this time and began to work its way up, so Toby was on his knees, sweating and panting while his spine and gun mutated, his expression one of a man holding back great pain.

Maia glanced at Dari, and then Toby. She couldn't stay away, instinct driving her to Toby's side. She bent and took his hand.

Toby took Maia's hand without question and gave a shout of pain as it rose to his chest and head. He could not tell Maia how much it meant to have her there beside him, holding his hand through this. The transformation continued the normal way, bones breaking and resetting and muscles rippling. Maia would undoubtedly feel his finger bones breaking and elongating and he wouldn't hold it against her if she let go then, but he'd just as quickly steal her hand back, and when it was over and he was on his knees and one clawed, paw-like hand, the other still clutching Maia's dainty fingers. His chest heaved and he just sat there a while. Then finally he turned to Maia with soft eyes. He'd have smiled if there was any difference between it and baring his teeth aggressively in this form.
Dari was already at his station, checking on the other registered weres in this country and others and keeping an eye for attack reports.

Once it was over, Maia released a breath she hadn't released she was holding. She didn't Let go of his hand, but did shift and reach her free hand to his face. "I wish I could make this easier for you," She said. If there was a way to make it painless and easy like her own transformation, she'd do it.

Toby leaned into her hand and then leaned forward to touch the tip of his muzzle to Maia's cheek. It was the closest they could get to a kiss. He didn't lick. He gave her a good hug and then rose to look over Dari's shoulder. He bonked him in the ear in appreciation.
So what were they going to do, hm? His ears swiveled on his head.

Didn't he have to work? Maia stood, still holding his hand. "Want to go swimming first or stargazing?" she asked. She looked for his white board. "You should eat something."

Toby didn't have to do much work until later when everyone started coming out of it. While Maia looked for the board, which was placed behind the computer station Dari was sitting at, Toby went to the basket of fruit and tried to peel an orange with his claws. Hmm... Would the skin taste all that bad in were form? He took an experimental bite. BLEH. Yeah, no, it did taste that bad.

Maia released Toby's hand took an orange from the basket. She began to peel it while watching him attempt to eat one with the peel still on. She snickered and offered the peeled orange to him. She quickly started peeling another one.
"Orange peel tastes good in some recipes," she told him. "But not raw."
