AlaLavei BS! America survived Kiss. Make-up is not uncommon in the least. I'd also like to note here that Cage!Kyo is not wearing a dress. xmkatx The makeup of the US glam rock bands weren't done to look feminine rather a means to look absolutely gaudy. 3nodding That being said, still, how many people do you see just walking down the street dressed like Kiss? Or even on mtv, or in magazines, or anywhere else in american pop(ular) culture? Brenli Just out of curiousity, Namida, do you know what time Kyo said this? Like, what songs they had out and what their look had been at the time? I have this weird little theory that Kyo might not have liked being visual (in the EFFEMINATE sense... it is fairly evident that he enjoys being visual in the spikey, razor-sharp sense), and as time progressed throughout their career, this slowly moved away from the lacy, frilly look they started out with. Or maybe is fickle in the mind or something. ~Shrugs~ Lacy or spikey, the man has style. I believe this was an interview in the Macabre era, where he did still wear feminine things, and even lacey things (case in point, his AATD outfit). I find it amusing that he would say this and dress that way at all. Sure he's drifted away from the VK look, but they all have, probably because they thought the VK was getting old, and not just Kyo drifted away from the look because he didn't like it? Even if he's not so much into it anymore, that doesn't mean that he didn't dress in an effeminate way for the first 4+/- years of Diru and all of La Sadies (which was an additional year or so). Why would he do that if he doesn't like that look? I smell hypocrisy. He doesn't like bands with a feminine image, but he is willing to potray that image himself? And even if not, his band mates dress(ed) in a feminine way. What does that mean? He dislikes all other bands who portay the image except his own?? [/rant]

Yeah, but do you see people in Japan walking down the street dressed like Dir en grey all the time, either? We have our little variations of bizarre. You see emo-kids with eyeliner all over their face all of the time, and we get bizarre groups that do face-paint and masks.
Anyway, I guess my point was that I don't think the make-up really has anything to do with the gender mistakes in this instance. His make-up in Cage doesn't really come off as feminine at all to me, especially since Americans are generally used to the guy with a streak of black down his face. It's my experience that it's usually something you see more on guys anyway.
Ugh.

AlaLavei Yeah, but do you see people in Japan walking down the street dressed like Dir en grey all the time, either? Actually, from what I've seen, yes a lot of people there commonly dress VK and Lolita, etc.AlaLavei We have our little variations of bizarre. You see emo-kids with eyeliner all over their face all of the time, and we get bizarre groups that do face-paint and masks. True, but over here, it is not common to see people dress like (just an example) Cage Kyo. That's not a common or well-known 'bizarre' here. However in Japan, if you see someone dressed like Kyo, you probably wouldn't think twice about it, because that's something that is common in pop culture, but over here, that's a different story. Which probably would explain why someone who saw cage Kyo would mistake him for a girl, as I said.AlaLavei Anyway, I guess my point was that I don't think the make-up really has anything to do with the gender mistakes in this instance. His make-up in Cage doesn't really come off as feminine at all to me, especially since Americans are generally used to the guy with a streak of black down his face. It's my experience that it's usually something you see more on guys anyway. Perhaps that's what you would think, but you're more familiar with Japanese culture, and so you're probably more used to seeing guys with tons of makeup than say, someone who has only been raised on american pop culture with say rap, and rock bands like Limp bizkit and Linkin park (which you'd probably be hard pressed to find any of those people ever wearing makeup). Not to mention a majority of Japanese men in VK are more convincing as women (Mana, for example) than say this guy. And in all fairness, in Cage, Kyo was wearing more make-up than just a black streak down his face.AlaLavei Isn't Kyo supposed to be the one who is always lying in all of his interviews? Who knows, if it's a lie, it's a hypocritical one, if it's what he really thnks, it's still hypocritical. But hey, you can't really go throwing doubt into everything he says, especially if it's just a statement on his opinion. For that much you might as well say he was lying in the BBC interview, and he really does like Marilyn Manson, and really cares about what he does.

Which was my whole point, wether someone here thinks it was a lie or not, because they don't know for sure. How can you know it's a lie?

And it is hypocritical, but honestly, I don't think he really cares. I don't know about you guys, but Kyo kinda strikes me as a selfish person.

Hypocrisy makes a fool of us all. Although I don't think you could really say you never know what is going on with him. You can't just assume everything someone says that you don't like is a lie, just because that person has lied before. We all have, but we don't all speak in pure lies either.

I think this another one of those many times where we agree to disagree because I really don't see any sort of progression or end to this conversation in the future. ...so I'm done.
In other news: I want his jacket. D:

Sounds like a lot of work. @_@ I'm terrible with makeup; if I tried to do that, it would've looked like a disaster. How'd you learn to put it on so nicely? xd
