@ jellowind - do I detect just a bit of cynicism about the government? I think some of them care about us. Others seem to only care about lining their own pockets.
@ giesta - I hope the overtime doesn't prevent you from getting at least the 15 minutes a day sunshine for vitamin D.
For both of you (and anyone else interested) -- Is there a free clinic in your community where low income people can get free health care?
There's a free clinic where I live. A friend of mine did some volunteer work there.

We have a hospital in town totally funded by donations and volunteer work and free to those with low income without insurance. Now, it's not the most tech-savvy place in the world. I wouldn't recommend getting your quadruple bypass surgery done there, but they have the most efficient ER in the area. Right down the street from this hospital is a free clinic run by volunteer nursing students and prayer. They're both falling apart a bit because for some reason they cannot receive federal grants. Go figure that the hospitals doing the most good are those without federal support.
*sigh* And no. I do not trust my government at all. But that's a separate and long-winded rant.

I must agree with Jellowind, I dont particularly care for our present Goverment either it has a long way to go to improve its relationship with the people and me included.
Yes, we have a Health Center that you can walk into and get checked out by the city Health Peeps for anything that maybe making you sick especially those without money or no insurance.

I love a good political rant. My grandparents came to the US for the freedoms here -- freedom to believe as you believe, to say what you believe.
I have to take care of a few things. Then I may be back to rant and ask some questions. In the meantime, feel free to vent and rant.

I tried to find a hat with bananas on photobucket but ran out of time. There's one spectacular one in the youtube movie I linked in the "giesta" thread. One moment, I'll post it here too... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERYKzez97lALook for the crown of bananas hat toward the end. I love that woman and her hats. She's fun!

I finally got to see some news about the Universal Health Bill passing.
Most of the stuff is to do with Insurance companies and how now under the bill they will have to do it "The Presidents" way.
Kids can stay on thier parents insurance till 26 now.
And Insurance can no longer refuse coverage because of pre-exsisting conditions.

That sounds fabulous. I have pre-existing conditions and no insurance. Finally there's hope for coverage *happy dance*
I heard that Congress closed the loophole (called "donut hole" for some weird reason I don't understand) that made seniors pay thousands out of pocket for prescriptions. My 79 year old neighbor will be glad about that. She was just telling me yesterday that lately she's had to choose between food and prescription. *more happy dance*
Employers with more than 50 employees will have to provide insurance for employees. That's expected to help thousands, maybe millions, of people. If an employer is so big they have 50 employees, they ought to share the wealth with those who help them be so wealthy and successful.
It's a huge bill -- 2000 pages -- so let me know if you hear anything else. I'm sure it'll be in the news a lot, since the signing by Pres Obama today will be televised. Ted Kennedy's widow was saying how wonderful the bill is. I hope she's right and the negative things being said don't come about.

So far nothing new, but that does sound very promising.
Both of my parents take Meds. (One for her Diabeaties (Mom), and my (Dad) for his heart, he survived a stroke not to long ago. 3nodding
