Getting out of the car and doing a quick weapons check, Will fell in line behind Iden as they moved on towards the shrine. Looking around casually as he followed Iden, Will would keep a lookout for anything that he thought might be a lookout or guard waiting to give them trouble. Spotting the cameras placed about, Will grabbed hold of Iden's arm and out of sight of the camera's.

"Surveillance, what do you think? Want me to get us around them, or do you have an idea to get around them?"

Though in the guise of a human, Will still had all of his senses going at full blast; listening for anything that was moving around, checking for heat signatures, and scenting for anything out of the ordinary.

As soon as he was aware of the crews excavating the site, Iden's frown became an absolute scowl. He stopped, and stepped back.

Yeah...yeah, Will. Get us in there discreetly. I've a feeling that I'm going to have to politic this into submission...

Grabbing Iden by the shoulder, Will would pull the two of them into the ground as quickly as possible; trying to make sure that no one would see them suddenly disappear below the earth. Moving slowly through the dig site and inside of the temple, Will would check about for an isolated room to bring them back up to the surface before pulling the two of them back out of the ground.

"Well we're in; now what?"

Now we find out if they've breached the main chamber. And if they have...we unbreach it.

So spoke Iden as he was raised from the earth. Shaking off the brief feeling of weirdness he had from the unorthodox transportation, he checked his firearm one final time, then checked the exit quietly by pressing an ear near the door. The first line of reasoning was to identify presence of others as swiftly and silently as possible, the second line was to bypass people without contact until they reached the altar.

*Inside, the place was very quiet, and dark. Only minimal lights were on, namely emergency type spaced out just enough to light a thin walkway across the floors. A walkway worn smooth from the passage of people through hundreds of years, the dust removed after the latest humans had come this way.

Beyond the door to the main shrine, voices. Quiet, hard to make out, but definitely voices*

....enough. No.... for us to act...
...misdirection.... harder than.... possibly too much....
...harder. I will....or you...regret....
Understood....

*A brief flare fo a familiar energy. Iden may not in himself remember WHY that feel was familiar to him... but his body would know. A second, two, gone. The voices now silent.*

Setting up behind Iden as they reached the door outside of the shrine without incident, Will let Iden listen in behind the door while he watched behind them for anyone else that might be heading their way. William's eye would go wide and ear would stand on end when he felt the power spike from inside of the room; turning to Iden for an explanation nearly the moment he felt it, quietly hissing the most obvious question.

"What in the hell was that!?"

Iden's scowl deepened, if that were possible. He recognized the energies present, and understood the implications. Still, stealth was required. Thus, he was discreet in easing the door open and peering inside. They would not be moving unless without a clear route deeper into the shrine.

*Behind the door, all that remained was one doddery old archaeologist. Sat cross legged in front of an area of writing behind the main alter, he was simply taking notes on the ages old text scribed there.

Crossing the threshold brought a sudden gust of wind from the gap in the ceiling - not enough to disturb the working man - and surely those weren't whispers, right? Just a breeze....*

His scowl deepening at Iden's lack of answering, Will was about to repeat his question when the gust of wind rushed through the door; his more sensitive ears picking up the whispers contained within. Spinning about to look down the hallway, Will would be put on edge and looking for someone to attack them; his last encounter with Ice still fresh in his mind and his paranoia still quite high from said encounter.

"What do we do now?"

The question was whispered, but Iden would easily be able to hear the tenseness in his voice; the edge in it revealing how on edge he was.

Now...we see what's going on here. Get ready for a fast exfiltration.

With that, Iden stood and crossed the room. Wraithlike, his steps were silent and led him to stand behind the old man.

Evening mate. Gotta question or two I'd like to ask you.

*The man jumped like he'd been shot, knocking over a pot of brushes and pens. Papers spilled from his hands as he spun, as fast as his old frame would allow, staring with almost heart failure surprise at the pair behind him*

Holy jumping....! Who are you?! How did you get in here?! This is a restricted area!

Moving as quietly as Iden had, Will would enter the room behind him and stay by the door; keeping it open just enough to allow him to see down the hallway. The fact that the man had been startled in the first place was good; it meant that he had had now previous warning and that there wasn't some kind of ambush waiting for them. Though the whispers and energy spike that he had felt earlier where preventing Will from relaxing fully; thoughts of Ice and the time spent in his cave where hovering in the back of his mind, telling him to be on edge and alert.

I'm afraid, sir, that the how is something I shan't be disclosing. However...

Iden took a brief glance at his partner, then back to the old archaeologist. Holding his hand out in a palm forward gesture of general non hostility, he spoke with a quiet urgency.

I'm just investigating this shrine. Call it a personal interest...I just want to know what's going on.

Oh no... you;re not another one of those fanatics from the Shinto place, are you? We're not here to cause you any trouble. But this is a site of enormous historical importance!

Just look at these carvings.... they predate Ancient Egypt, yet they are so much more advanced... They didnt HAVE these pigments in these areas at that point that we knew of...

Isnt it fascinating? To find out who made these marks, and what they knew? Please. We just wish to learn more, then close it back up and leave it alone. You should leave now. I dont want trouble. I just want to be left to my studies.

*While he spoke, the old man lovingly traced some of the deep... and garish... carvings on the wall.*

No, no affiliation.

Iden folded his arms over his chest as the old scientist went on about his studies. Even as he listened, the young DeSeer's eyes flickered over the carvings etched across the wall. His brow was furrowed, clearly concerned about the situation at hand.

This place is the shrine to an ancient daemon-god O-Kuni Nushu, the insane patron of sorcery and medicine. He is among the youngest of his kind, and earned the reputation for sharing his insanity amongst his followers. He is loosely connected to Shinto...making this the purview of the fanatics. Though...I doubt they understand the significance of this shrine in particular, where the seat of the daemon's power resides. Any mortal man within these chambers is at risk of seeing and learning things the human mind should not comprehend, and suffering greatly for it.

With his speech given, Iden's stern gaze fell upon the archaeologist. His frown was not just one of disappointment, but of clear concern.

We're not here to cause trouble, but I am here to see to it that this place is treated with the proper reverence and caution it deserves.
