Question, question! Why can space marine scouts have shotguns and how come nobody ever seems to use them in the game?

Lt. Brookman Question, question! Why can space marine scouts have shotguns and how come nobody ever seems to use them in the game? My guess would be that shotguns being weaker than any other Space Marine weapon, even if they're still more practical, is a real turn-off. Hey, don't Black Templars' Neophytes use shotguns?

I never liked shotguns, bolters are more effective in killing buggers out of the way, even thougth the shotguns on Dark Angels do have S4 now a days, but still no AP value. And since I rearly put scouts into close combat againts anyting, arming them with bolters for long range firing and heavy beating makes better sence to me.

It was my old Deathworld Vet. army that I killed Tyrant Guard with the shotguns... The squad got wiped out by the Tyrant next turn, but it was still pretty cool to see them kill the Guard. My Neophytes are set up for close combat.

So basically, GW wasted plastic parts on a frame that nobody (except for me) seems to be ever using.

King Kento Lt. Brookman So basically, GW wasted plastic parts on a frame that nobody (except for me) seems to be ever using. It dissapoints me, because I like the way they look, but I dont have a need for them. I do have 2 old scouts with shotguns. ninja They run alongside with Inquisitors as a Imperial Guard Veterans. xD
I honestly have to say the new scout´s heads are rather larger compare the old ones. Makes them look rather funny, reminds me of Unreal Tournaments feature where you could give players a bigger head.

The new scout heads scream one thing: "******** I need to take a huge s**t right now!"

I was thinking about saving up for Forgeworld items, are the Warhound Titans usable by Space Marines. I never realised before how awsome it would be to have a model almost a foot tall.
As for the shotguns, it seems that even the pistols could be better with that armor piercing. I would hate having my marines allow the orks an armor save they very well don't deserve against the Emperor's finest.

Shotguns only do one thing that a pistol and CC weapon can't: they give you an extra shooting attack beforfore charging into close combat. the only reason you would want the S3 AP- attack rather than the marine's S4 attack is if you wanted to kill more enemy models before charging in. (like eldar perhaps due to their high I value)
The problem is that if you don't plan on charging then it's better to just take a bolter. There are so few things you'd be fighting that a shotgun would be most useful for, so not many people like using em.

PyroXTech I was thinking about saving up for Forgeworld items, are the Warhound Titans usable by Space Marines. I never realised before how awsome it would be to have a model almost a foot tall. Rules-wise, Apocalypse games let you mix-and-match armies to your whims, and since they're both part of the greater Imperium, I don't see any reasons within fluff why you shouldn't if you have the chance. Regular 40k games, though... One of them'll probably take up all three Heavy Support choices, and probably scare off any prospective opponents.

Actually, titans are not a heavy support choice but rather a separate detachment choice. In order to field a titan you'll need a separate detachment army list.
