Hello Everyone! I am new to the Guild, but have been playing clarinet for 6 years. smile By the way, Congradulations on 1st chair 8th Grader, Bruised_and_Confused! biggrin Keep it up and work hard, but remember HAVE FUN! Don't be one of those people who are way too competitive about their spots. Yes, it is nice to be 1st,2nd, 3rd chair, but remember practice is perfect. smile
Fellow Clarinetist, Jojo.
P.S: Can you all help me figure out some quotes to put on buttons? My friend is requesting them so we can sell them at our Eagle Classic. Thank you!

Have any of you ever been in all-state band? Auditions are coming up in a few months for my state (Texas) and this will be my first year being able to audition, so I'm kind of excited to see how far I'll be able to go.

Well, I'm obviously a clarinet player considering that I'm posting in this thread whee . No name for my clarinet but trust me, it doesn't need on. Considering how it still works perfectly fine (except for the stupid C# key scream !) despite the numerous times I've dropped it, I think it's special enough 0.o ....

So, my clarinet is being stuppid...my precious claribelle. Everytime i play a B, on the staff, and then play the next c/c# up, it sounds extremely bad, if it even plays at all. Upon inspection, I found that the B key keeps getting stuck under then one next to it (the one you play with left pinky). I tried bending the key, but i can only bend it a bit, and it still looks off copared to any other clarient, like extremely close, and you can feel the resistance from it rubbing against the other key.
So i ask you fellow clarinetists this: shoiuld i take it in, or should i continue tryign to bend the key myself?
Secondly, I do not ever recommend buyng a Harmony brand clarinet. I tried to play mine yesterday, because its my spare and i was seeing how bad it was, and i cannot paly it at all. The B key and the one next to it, the two giving me problems on my Vito, are in a weird spot, and none of the clarinetists at my school can get their pinky to reache ven the B key. Next, the c/c# (below staff) was soudnign terrible and felt weird. I noticed that the c# key was almost covering the 3rd hold of the top half of the instruemnt. That one was an easy bend-fix thoguh. Then the Eb key and all above it(the 4 on the right side of the clarient when you ahve it in playing position) are up higher then other clarients, nearly and inch, and difficult to reach, not to mention the way it is designed can be used as a weapon. the fianl thing i noticed was the horrible sound quality. On my Vito, I have one of the best soudns in the band, but o this one, same mouthpiece and different moutpiece, my sound was extremely airy and i kept squeaking, althoguh the squeaks may have been a result of the painful figner positiions i had to reach cause of key palcement./

I say keep on bending it bit by bit. Eventually you'll get it to fix. That's how I solve most of my bending problems 3nodding .

Actually, I don't recommend you keep bending it yourself. I would definitely take it in to the shop..
Also, that happened to me once on my old clarinet. The key wasn't the problem. A screw was out too far. Check all the little screws around those keys.

They are all in correct spots, not out too far at all. As for taking it in, my own worry is that it wont be ready in time for our first comp, and I don't want to use my woden clarient. i can't play my harmony almsot at all, I already tried. So, if i were to take it in, i would have to use my wooden, which makes me shiver. its lasted over 50 years, I don't think it could handle marching band...
