The beauty of night; one can only ever really see it in full wonder when isolated from city lights. Such beauty is wasted. Yes, tonight they picked the prefect place to set up camp. The howling…hunted…forest, whatever; was hell. The twisted branches of trees tangled up overhead and blocked out the stars…the moon.
Effie laid out against the thick grass of the open field. Snuggling against the thatch of lawn, the girl smiled, it was so unlike the lawns in the city. Why was she just noticing this? Three days into the exertion and it’s NOW she realizes the small things?
With hands behind her head, the girl’s legs were crossed as if sitting, she WAS wearing a skirt after-all. Today was a nice quite day for her….after yesterday night she needed time to clear her head. And unlike the forest she wasn’t at all intimidated…there was good energy out here.

"I don't remember ever going to Celadon... that was another fairly big town though, right?" he questioned, tilting his head, "I haven't been to a lot of the Kanto region -- then again, I didn't visit much of Johto either."

Again, Liam laughed, this time when the rocket commented on the Porygon. "That's my mom for you. She never did get one... maybe I'll try to catch one for her, if we see one. Don't know why she liked it." he replied, tangling his fingers in his hair. He went silent for a moment, his grin fading slightly as the seconds passed, before he spoke again.

"Do you think we'll catch a pokemon?"

Piney shrugged and grabbed the doorknob so she could close it. Before she did so however, she heard a smattering of what some scientists were talking about. She didn't understand what they were saying, though the words sounded important.

Closing the door quietly, she turned around to face Jen again. Something had been nagging her mind since last night, with the police and radio thing.

"Hey... uh... I got a clearer description of some criminals while I was calling the department with the radio. The two guys that destroyed a hotel room and didn't pay for it...?"

Half lidded eyes stare blankly up towards the sky, watching the flickering stars in the distance. It never got old, she was memorized. But the thing that caught her attention most was the moon, the pale orb that shown white light down onto the earth. So unlike her sister the sun, the moon was gentle, she was peaceful. The sun was scornful at times, blaring HOT rays, Effie preferred tonight to most days. Even if she was a day person, in no way was she a night owl. There were still some disadvantages to the night…
Licking her dry lips the teen closed her eyes, ‘What am I gonna do about my pokemon? I mean…I haven’t even named him yet.’ She thought bitterly, maybe if she named him he’d be more…personable?

Alastair felt that he should do something. Perhaps he should gaze into the fire moodily until he had an epiphany. Was that how it worked? That sounded pretty good, especially since Alastair really felt like poking something. And poking the barely burning embers of a fire while waiting for an epiphany, why that was practically tradition! With this in mind, he got up and brushed himself off. “Come on, Con. We’re gonna go find a stick!”

Keep in mind that this was said with perfect and absolute enthusiasm, as if there was nothing at all better in the world besides the finding of adequate poking sticks. Con merely blinked at his owner, feeling fairly confident that he could think of at least eighty-seven different things that were better than finding sticks. Still… the pale houndoom let out a sigh, deciding that someone ought to look after Alastair less the idiot boy end up in a pit somewhere.

It didn’t take long for Alastair to find a meadow and, yes! An adequate stick! He waved it over his head excitedly before remembering that Con was… a sort of a dog. Sort of… he liked chasing after snowballs anyway. Maybe he’d enjoy this. Alastair threw it.

Con merely looked at him with a bored expression on his face, as if saying, ‘excuse me, do you want that stick? Then you go get it’. It was an expression that had a lot to say for itself.

And, thus, Alastair lost the perfect poking stick… he was rather sad about that, until he went looking for it. Then he found something much more interesting than sticks…

Effie!” he shouted, waving like a madman towards her.

Well duh!’ She shot back at herself inwardly, ‘Being told to do stuff and someone just says ‘kid’ or ‘girl’ would get annoying to anyone.’ Shutting her eyes tighter the girl tried to keep up with her internal monologue. ‘But even if I named him…what would it be? He isn’t exactly the nicest pokemon, but calling him a cruse word would be a bad idea.’ Smiling at the thought Effie imagined her throwing her pokeball, calling out a swear word in the process. While it was funny to visualize it wasn’t acceptable in the real world, besides who’s to say he wont change?

And around this time her thoughts were disrupted by the shouting of another. “Whaa?” Effie sat up, leaning back against her arms, that help prop her up from behind. Setting her gaze to the surrounding area it wasn’t long until Effie set eyes on…oh god. A hefty sigh escaped her lips before she shouted back, even though she was dreading it, her friendly personality pushed forward…wanting more then anything to do something light hearted. Duel personalities, who’d figured? “Alastair!” She hollered back, as if calling to a long lost best friend. Rising an arm she beconed him over, because god forbid she actually had to get up.

"Yep, one of the biggest in Kanto. And hey, I'm not any better... I think I've been to Johto... once? And never Hoenn or Sinnoh," Ridley reflected. "Then again, Johto is pretty much the same as Kanto," he shrugged.

"My mom always liked Delibird and Skitty. We only had a Delibird, though. Her tastes were pretty feminine, but I don't know what kind of taste a... a Porygon would be. What a weird pokemon," he laughed gently. He glanced sidelong at Liam.

"Sure! I bet we will soon enough. A lot of people have gotten lucky so far, so I bet we will soon too," Ridley grinned. "You worried about that?"

Alastair trotted over to Effie and bowed mockingly. “Let’s make that Sir Alastair, my lady of lazyness. Honestly, not even getting up to greet me? The very epitome of slothdom, that’s what that is. Anyway, did you happen to see a stick sail past here? Yes? No? See, I was hoping to spend tonight being all moody and pensive by the fire. Lots of poking would have been involved and I found the absolutely perfect poking stick… then again… sitting and staring at the fire sounds like it could lead to serious cornea burn… and I am awful fond of these corneas. It’s a sentimental attachment, really. I’ve had them my whole life. Very attached… so, I suppose I’ll be lazy out here with you instead.” Wow. He really was saving up all his speech from the day, wasn’t he?

Flopping down on the ground near Effie, he made a point to examine his nails. Because, you never know. “Anyway… how has your day been? Besides the usual litany of running screaming from fires and whatnot. Fires are very popular this expedition, I’ve noticed. Lots of fires going out, burning things up, and everything.”

Con was less enthusiastic about his owner’s chosen companion. But, there was little the pale houndoom could do about it, so he sat some ways away, looking as aloof as ever.

"Hey, don't be insulting my mother now," he teased, lifting a fist in a mock-threat, blinking at the question.

"Worried? I have as long as I want to wander this place..." he scoffed, waving him off before giving him a slightly sheepish look, "A little. What, you're not?" Throwing the question back at Ridley a little defensively, Liam leaned forward, grinning, eager to see how he responded. He had completely forgotten about the food probably bubbling over next to him, as well as the pokemon sleeping behind them. At the moment Ridley had his complete attention.

Kiri wiggled out of her little place in the wagon, thinking that she was alone. A satisfied smile on her face was frozen as she heard voices. Oh, crap. the thirteen year old thought, sure now that she was found out. But no, it was only somebody talking nearby. Kiri slipped out of the wagon as quietly as possible out into the night, taking a deep breath when she got outside. The sky above her was a beautiful midnight velvet, the stars gleaming like the finest jewels.

Ridley laughed, lifting his hands defensively. "Of course, of course, I'm sorry."

"Nah, I'm not worried. I figure I'll get one sooner or later," he shrugged, pulling the stew even higher and taking it a bit off the heat so it wouldn't overcook. "I wouldn't worry about it, Liam. The right one will come along," Ridley smiled cheesily. Picking up a bowl, he ladled some of the stew into it and offered it to Liam. He wasn't going to taste it until Liam tried it.

“Blragh!” She exclaimed lazily, waving her arm in the air as if to dismiss the statement; and just to confirm the man’s words the girl flopped back against the grass. Listening to him… go on…and on. Did he always talk this much? Maybe because yesterday she actually had something to add to conversation, this one was alittle one sided, as he told her every detail leading him to his destination in front of her. “Nope, ain’t seen no sticks of yours~” She chirped, when his furious chatter had finally ceased. In more ways then one he reminded her of a girl. Not so much in physical appearance…he was very much male; it was just…his mannerisms? Sure he was a pervert, but he talked a lot. Blah, maybe she was just categorizing again, a sexist one at that.

Making no effort to turn her head in his direction as she replied to his question; I mean what was the point? She was out here for the stars tonight, and her head twisted to see him wouldn’t make much of difference compared to her keeping it forward. “Actually a lot less screaming coming from my part today, save for the little ‘stampede’ that took place earlier. I wonder what that was about….” The girl’s voice trailed as she recounted the events. “I spent the day with my Girafarig, I think I got some ground. We bonded today.” In all truthfulness, nothing much had changed, but might aswell tell a small fib. Alastair wouldn’t know the difference.
“Remember~ think positively.” She murmured, remembering the short convo they shared afew days before on the wagon.
Laying puzzled towards the fact that the pokemon Alastair brought wasn’t buzzing around like some of the other trainer’s, Effie merely shrugged it off to it being it a more shy or loner type. Different pokemon different personalities. Twisting her head she tried to catch a peek at the monster in question wondering just which it was.

Liam gave the rocket a slightly flat look, taking the bowl from him.

"Where do you get these things? First you're naming the Tauros SoulCrusher now you're spouting cheesy greeting card sayings to me? You're adorable, you know that?"

Grinning mischievously, pleased by his own comment, the healer scooped up a spoonful of the stew, sliding it into his mouth. Immediately the grin was gone, replaced by a wide-eyed, slightly pale look, which quickly turned into a hand on his chest and a sharp cry.

Kiri slipped behind Effie, careful not to attract her attention. Then, to her chagrin, her stomach growled loudly, protesting. Aww. She had forgotten to nibble a bit on her vast snack horde that she had packed, and now she had most likely alerted one of the others to her presence. Great.

Pfft… Alastair wasn’t one to get all defensive about his masculinity. If he wasn’t ‘masculine’ enough for someone else, or if they took offense to him, then that was their problem, not his. Besides, he liked talking and making people laugh. If he could accomplish both at once, more power to him, right?

“Hmm… damn. I’ll have to find a new one. And it was so perfect. Ergonomically designed and all that by Mother Nature herself. Can’t get any better than that. Or, if you can, I’d sure like to hear about it,” he said, shrugging off the loss of his stick. “I was hoping Con would chase it, but, alas… he feels like being Prince Lardbutt tonight.” He hesitated before speaking again. “As for your girafarig… I wouldn’t worry too much about him. Or her. Some pokémon just don’t like people. Con here doesn’t like most people. Or most pokémon, to be honest. But there’s no others that I trust more.”

Con merely sent a passive glance at the trainers, looking thoroughly bored. That was the pale houndoom’s default expression, unless he was around close friends. At the sound of a stomach growling, Con lifted his head up, looking remotely interested. His nostrils flared and he started to explore the area a bit, trying to find the source of the noise.

“Have you thought up any names for your girafarig yet?” Alastair asked, after a moment of quiet gazing at Con, which the houndoom thoroughly ignored.
