Duelist of Pokemon

PostPosted: Mon Aug 04, 2008 4:45 pm

"Calm down, I was just kidding about the warrent thing." Jen held up her hands infront of her defensively. "And knowing our luck, if we did stick our heads in there, there'd be nothing but lab stuff and an over-used coffee machine or something."

Huffing slightly, Jen stood and brushed away the dirt and grass clinging to her jeans. "Well...no reason to set them off anymore, might as well close it so the princes' can get their beauty rest."

Liam returned with his arms full of firewood, looking about ready to sneeze as one with a little cluster of leaves tickled his nose. Dropping the wood onto the ground besides Ridley and his companion Tauros, he bent down into a crouch, grabbing a lighter from his pocket, holding it under the lighter, more flammable foliage. Soon enough a decent fire had started.

"Toss in whatever you'd like -- I'm not picky, especially when I'm hungry," he said conversationally, glancing over at Ridley.

Ridley sat up as Liam started the fire, sticking a few branches onto it once it seemed strong enough to handle the dry wood. He poured in a generous amount of water to the pot over the fire and started adding ingredients that he chopped up with a pocket knife (with some finesse, for a dull blade), and sat back to let it cook, sighing. "I know what you mean. At this point I'd almost eat the south end of a northbound Skuntank, if you know what I mean," he wrinkled his nose.

"This is what I always wanted to do when I was a kid. Get a Pokemon, go out on an adventure..." Ridley sighed, blissful.

Liam made a face at Ridley's analogy, not looking too thrilled at the mention of eating anything to do with skuntank. The healer was happy when the other changed the

"Why didn't you?"

Tilting his head, Liam seated himself next to Ridley, leaning back on his palms. His shoulder was feeling a lot better than it had been this morning, something he was quite happy for. Turning his head, Liam rested his cheek on his own shoulder, watching the Rocket quietly.

"Eh, my mom didn't want me to. She thought it was too dangerous. Wanted me to go to school. So I stayed home and played with Digby, our Delibird. First chance I got, though, I came here," Ridley grinned. He didn't mention that he'd gotten a free ride thanks to Team Rocket.

"I'm guessing by the fact that you don't have a Pokemon yourself, you didn't go on a journey either," the Rocket grunt quirked an eyebrow at Liam questioningly.

Liam nodded slowly. That made sense. It also made sense as to why Ridley was so obsessively interested in pokemon. Especially Tauros, he thought to himself with a private grin.

Shifting a bit, he glanced up at the stars through the deadened branches, thinking about his own experience. "By the time I was old enough to go on my pokemon journey I was already ready to open up my own Pokemon Center. Or so I thought. Of course I wasn't... I got into pokemon healing when I was, like, five, and after that I was attached to my Aunt's leg for the whole summer. It wasn't until I was fifteen I decided 'Oh, wait, you know, I kinda do want a pokemon of mine own, instead of just healing other people's'"

"Shot through the heart, and you're to blame, you give love a bad name~" Zen sung, resting his head against the wagon wheel. He hummed the tune to the song, watching the going ons.

Once again, he had missed a swarm. Not any of the pokemon caught would have made suitable offspring with any of his pokemon though. He would just have to wait it out to find a suitable partner for his pokemon, save Armageddon. Daybreak would maul him if he tried.

"Roxanne~" He hummed, starting a new song.

The Rocket grunt listened, occassionally stirring the now boiling mixture and moving it a little higher so that it would simmer. "So what have you been doing since you were 15?" Ridley blinked. "Just healing, still? I guess you're pretty experienced, it sounds like. You... don't happen to be related to Nurse Joy, do you?" he asked, unable to resist.

Liam lolled his head a bit, making a face.

"Yeah. I took over when our old healer decided to retire and move to Lavaridge. Trust me, in a small town like ours, it wasn't very exciting. So here I am. A little late, but better late than never."

Watching the other stir the pot, the healer couldn't help but grin when Ridley finally posed the question he had known would come up sooner or later. "That's a really vague question, considered there are about fifty Nurse Joys, but yes. The Joy in Viridian City is my aunt. The rest... man, I have no idea." he replied with a laugh, leaning forward to smell the soup.

"So. Any pokemon you're absolutely dying to catch?"

User ImageKayla was laughing at Grinch's and Quintrell's antics as they fought over the last chocolate for their s'mores. Everyone one had their fair share but for some reason it was miscounted and they found out there was a piece left, just big enough for one.

The others were satisfied with what they had and watched in amusement as the two argued and playing rock-paper-scissors to see who gets it. Everyone else was currently just roasting marshmellows while they watch.

Kayla was no longer sore and happily enjoying the night. She was overjoyed that she had such a fine group of pokemon. They cared for her and loved her as much as she did for them. She knew that maybe one day, there would be a pokemon that would not follow her commands or like her, which she would have to cross that road when it comes. Until then, she was content.

"I can't blame you for not knowing. That's a pretty huge family," Ridley laughed as well, leaning back again to let the stew cook. He shrugged at Liam's next question. "Not really. I'll take anything I can get. Just... no Paras... and ghost Pokemon are a little creepy for my tastes," the Rocket yawned.

"What about you? Where are you from, anyway?"
PostPosted: Mon Aug 04, 2008 6:08 pm

"Oh wow, a pokemon Ridley doesn't like? Amazing!" Liam laughed, his eyes glittering teasingly. Ok, so he was a tease. Among other things, "Ghosts aren't so bad -- I've heard they're really playful, that's all." He stared at Ridley for a minute, trying to imagine Ridley with a ghost pokemon. He could see it... especially a Gengar. He'd have to think on it a bit.

"Oh, you've probably never heard of it. I grew up in Cherrygrove... Johto region. What about you?"

"Oh shut up," Ridley rolled his eyes. He shrugged when he defended ghost Pokemon. "I dunno... they're still pretty creepy to me," he shivered.

"Cherrygrove? Sounds vaguely familiar... must be a little backwater town, huh?" he laughed. "I'm from Saffron City, Kanto," Ridley said, a little smug.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 04, 2008 6:20 pm

Liam smirked when Ridley teased him back, amused. His entertained expression, however, faded slightly when Ridley told him where he was from. Immediately the healer sat up, his eyes going a bit wider, obviously interested. "Whoa, really? Wasn't that whe--" he started, pausing mid-sentence. He had been going to say where the old Rocket headquarters had been. Instead, Liam cleared his throat, continuing smoothly, "Where they put up all those casinos? My mom said she went once -- wanted to win a Porygon."

Ridley grinned. "Yeah, the casinos. My mom never went though. She saved her money for the department store in Celadon," he reminisced. He didn't completely miss Liam's hesitation, and wondered if he'd been going to say something else. His immediate thought was that the old Rocket HQ had been there, and Silph Co. But he wouldn't dare bring that up.

"Porygon, huh? That's a weird Pokemon, too..."
