I can see the Leaping ability coming through as a Shaper based upgrade. That or giving them Fleet. Leaping is obviously the better of the two in terms of assaults, given that they have a guaranteed 12" after the move.

I think they're going to play it safe and just tack on Fleet, something I can see them do, maybe a slight rewrite of it in combination with their Fieldcraft special rule.

The biggest rework in a new Tau Empire codex would be the wargear and the markerlight network. The latter is effective but something tells me it will be removed or replaced with something shinier.

Also, Ethereals will receive another redesign for sure. talk2hand

Tau are difficult to balance-design well, give them too much firepower and they will decimate everything at range, fail to do so and enemy will survive in enough numbers to massacre them in hth. - or something like that was what i've read in 1st Tau codex designers notes, still holds true...

True that, I remember the headaches they had over the Crisis Suits. First they were treated like power armoured units and they would drop like flies, then as small dreadnoughts, resulting in them being too powerful.

wait, we had dreadnoughts once!!! that would have been awesome!!

i can see your argument for fleet though, Brookman, and i would accept that. I really hope that they only improve the markerlights though and not get rid of it, casue those really do work for me, when of course they hit. I swear my dice just hate me for some reason, lol.

But exactly what wargear might we be talking about here? New or changed?

Old stuff out, like the leadership and target priority based items.

As for the Markerlight network, it has to stay, it makes the Tau unique in their own little way.

Ethereals need a armour save!
Its getting too each watching Tellion snipe them...

what i'd like to see:
-some dedicated bodyguards for ethereals, down to taking wounds instead of them
-power weapons or fists on shapers - hey they are mercs, would have easier access to such
-better leadership for all - banner of greater good maybe with 12" reroll?

The Tau don't really strike me as a race that would go about carrying large flags.

The old Kroot Mercenaries list allowed for Shapers to have access at Eviscerators and other pieces of wargear.

I agree with you, Blodwynn. The Tau wouldn't be schlepping giant flags around the battlefield. That's why they go through the rites of Bonding with one another. Squads being able to regroup under half size is a huge bonus.

IDK, then advanced comms system allowing use of Commanders Ld all over battlefield? Or within specific range as in Shadowsun? I've seen too many fire warriors falling back off the table after tank shock by empty(!) Rhino... Or just fleeing after first casualties.

Bonding knives. Also, don't forget that you can always check if a squad is above half size when they hit the board edge. Or blow that s**t up before it can hurt you.

Tau have primary weapons powerful enough to hurt most light vehicles out there when fired upon with a good volley. With a little luck and good manoeuvring you could take out a Russ tank.

bonding knives, and even famous ATSKNF is for naught, when enemy is withn 6"...

Tau should have a Samurai unit. They have stealth suit ninjas.
