Mat Mrs_Lizzie Probably the reason why I like the Imperial Guard is their superior armor. I love tanks, anything to do with tanks, and commanding tanks. I think when I start making my miniature army I'll go mostly tanks and less infantry. xp A woman after the majority of our hearts. I think most of us here value AV14 --[ ] <___

I once had to eat a tank to fill that cold void in my chest, where once a real heart used to beat. In other news, adopt a Centaur today, they are worth it and chicks dig small tanks that can easily be eaten with cereal.

Now for something that deserves to be in the thread...
Once again you make me laugh Brookman, yet I'm beging to wonder what my predator tastes like... Still, I'm a little sketchy on the Centuar rules, what do they do anyway?

Still, I'm a little sketchy on the Centuar rules, what do they do anyway? Thanks for pointing that out PyroXTech, we don't like the spamming of LOCAL events in a thread that is made for ARMY DISCUSSION, not promotion of some Yankee tournament that is FOUR MONTHS away. If you really have to promote events, do it here. So don't let me catch you spam up other threads than that one got it? The Centaur can be used as either a small open-topped transport with room for five men or as a towing vehicle for field artillery and its crew. It counts as a fast vehicle when not towing and it can fire an additional heavy or assault weapon carried by the squad from its front firing point.

Lt. Brookman Do you walk up to people with drop trooper or siege armies with that story? Does it make you feel good being right? My apologies, I forgot of Drop armies (Which I have seen can work effectively w/o tanks). They still suffer from the durability issue, but at least you can usually leave the unit within 12" or closer of wherever you wish, and you get one free turn to attempt to deal with the nearest threats. And that point was mostly for mobile Guard. Stationary guard can do quite well in games. The main problem with mobile Guard is that they often get bogged in combat, which is the last place they want to be against most opponents (Tau being one of the obvious exceptions).

Hey guys, just thought I'd let you know that there's new rumors surrounding the next Codex: Imperial Guard... Dosadi at Warseer Take this with the usual dose of salt guys, but someone I trust told me that the new guard codex may have the following things in it. Army wide special rule: I think it’s called Platoon Drill or something like that. Basically, units from the same platoon may ignore intervening squads when shooting. So enemy units targeted in this way do not receive the 4+ save. Apparently this only works if the Platoon command squad is alive and within 12” of the rest of the platoon. I’ve been told that this is just one of the abilities guard Platoons may get, but only as long as the chain of command is intact (whatever that means). So loosing your HQ Command Squad may be a really bad thing. Doctrines are for sure gone (I think we all knew this), but have been replaced by more mutable platoons. Instead of Armoured fist squads you can buy Chimeras for a whole platoon. Or buy the whole platoon grav-chutes to give them deep strike, or drop the heavy weapons from squads and give the platoon Scout. Veteran squads become upgrades to platoons (i.e. they are not elites anymore). Apparently infantry platoons let you attach certain types of support vehicles to them(kinda like back in second edition). Things like sentinels, hellhounds and demolishers can be attached to platoons. They still take up a FOC spot, but become part of the platoon and so will benefit from the Platoon Drill rule. The Leman Russ can be bought as a squadron so you can get 3 for a single FOC. They can not be attached to platoons however. Sniper Squads can now infiltrate, get stealth, range finders and all models in the squad have sniper rifles (and BS 4!). Like the Land Raider, a new plastic sprue for the Leman Russ has been made that will allow plastic demolishers and a 3rd variant (my money is on the Exterminator). The Baneblade in NOT in the new codex. It just doesn’t work (i.e. overpowered)in games that are not Apocalypse in size. However Stormtrooper squads can now take Valkyries as transports. Both will be getting a plastic kit. Valkyries follow the rules for skimmers I’ve been told. Again, they want to keep flyers and super heavies out of “normal games” but give people the ability to use them with all the special rules in Apocalypse and Planet-strike (if the ever get around to that.) This last one makes me wonder what’s they are doing, but apparently there is a new HQ in the book; Inquisitor and Retinue much like the elites from the current Daemon Hunters/Witch Hunters books. More info if I get it. Dosadi Also, Drachyench, I think you replied to the wrong thread...

If it is true I'll just spam nine Russ tanks to counter the new assault rules. The hinted at loss of AF squads is a shame as they are a big part of established fluff and hey, doctrines are going to be removed. I hope the replacement upgrades replace this or else some people with custom/converted armies will be ********.

I think you'll still be able to give your squads Chimeras as well as a lot of equipment to replicate the old doctrines. I've actually been thinking of making a small IG force for a while.
I've also got the feeling that a full 3-tank Russ Squadron will be a 0-1 choice. I mean, 9 of them is like a 1500-point army in itself!

So loosing your HQ Command Squad may be a really bad thing. As opposed to how it is now, where only the best HQ Squad counts and the rest work as nifty suicide squads. This seems a good change to me. Quote: Doctrines are for sure gone (I think we all knew this), but have been replaced by more mutable platoons. Instead of Armoured fist squads you can buy Chimeras for a whole platoon. Veteran squads become upgrades to platoons (i.e. they are not elites anymore). While the loss of Doctrines is a shame, the fact that they're keeping the ability to have custom squads (And likely to implement most of the doctrines potentially into the squads) is a good thing. The loss of Armoured Fist squads is a real shame, though, as there was a difference between a mobilized platoon and an Armoured Fist Squadron. Quote: The Leman Russ can be bought as a squadron so you can get 3 for a single FOC. They can not be attached to platoons however. Rejoice, Pieplates for everyone! A 0-1 thing would be unlikely, though, as GW seems to be dropping such rules all along the systems. Overall, I can't find TOO much to complain about with the Guard book. The loss of Doctrines could be either false (Which I hope), negated by giving the whole of the army access to what would normally be given via doctrines (Which, while still a loss, isn't that bad), or they could just leave you with vanilla Guard (Which is where the Players with Pitchforks come in). Quote: Also, Drachyench, I think you replied to the wrong thread... Right thread, this discussion does not belong in the 5th Ed. Rumor thread as it is not based on Rumors, but on a currently existing army.

Damn.. If they cut doctrines I hope at the least I can still take grenadiers as troops. If not I've got to flush another two hundred dollars to FW for another infantry platoon. And I was hoping for a move towards extra armour for my next army grab...

Worst case scenario is that the army lists FW produced for the last three IA book will become obsolete as well, that is something I am really not looking forward to. I shelved out more than $300 for a special army of D-99 Elysians and I don't want them to become vanilla guard who can be upgraded to be drop troopers.
Still, if doctrines are dropped some of the fellow guard players I know will shed a tear or two. One lass I know went the full mile and converted a full army of cyber-enhanced carapace armour toting tech guard for her Skitarii army. None of the cheap "paint an arm metal and call it a bionic" crap either, she went all the way and scoured the GW range for good parts back when you could still do that. If GW drops the doctrines and wargear upgrades she will soon be fielding fancily converted guardsmen instead of tech guard.
Hopefully the new codex will bring new Ratling models, as their design is beginning to show age a tad. And seeing as snipers become more potent with the next edition and their high BS actually counts for something I think we can see a small resurgence of large squads of Ratlings. Or maybe they'll be dropped altogether in favour of the mentioned souped-up special weapon squads.
Other than that there is little left to revise. Maybe new priest models and the weapons sprue hinted at for the Leman Russ. Maybe one for the Chimera as well, with options for the heavy bolter, heavy flamer and maybe the autocannon. This leaves us with a new plastic regiment (Generic greatcoats / Valhallans) and hopefully a redesign of the current Cadian boxed set. They'll probably bring the number of models down to ten men per box, but with more weapon options and bits to customize them like with the Chaos and Orks squad boxed sets.

Xenos, just get IA 5 already! That way you wont have to bother with the new codex and you can still use your Krieg the way they are meant to be used. With some added bonuses of course.
