"I'll remember," she promised. Maia took Michael's hand and shook it, smiling at him. She glanced at Toby. Had he eaten? She took Toby's hand, giving it a squeeze. Hey. Reports were only once a month!
As they headed down the hall, Maia said, "I think Lori and Luca should come out to dinner with us this weekend." then, "Have you eaten yet?"

"Sure, that'd be nice," Toby said, and then changed subject just as quickly as Maia, "No, I haven't yet, but I brought leftovers." He preferred their day-old food to the cafeteria's food.

"You should eat," Maia instructed. "You really hate monthly reports, huh?" She'd have to text Lori and invite them to dinner later.

"It comes with being 'top agent,'" he huffed, "I have to make reports for each active agent and their performance and... ugh. Then it's off to HR. It'll take me more than just today, but I've already stopped so I think I'll take lunch now. Do you want any?" He detoured for the break room nearest their office.

Poor guy. He worked so hard. "For every agent?" Maia made a face. Every single one? "I already ate," she admitted, following him into the break room. "I'll sit and talk, though."

"Just the ones who've been on duty this month, from this region. There are fewer agents than you'd think, I think. We have nine on-base and five others in the region. The people who drive your kelpie friend around aren't full-fledged agents, but it's easier than calling them anything else. So... eight or so reviews and reports..." He sighed, took his lunch from the fridge, and headed back for hi office.
"So has Lori stopped geeking out over you yet?"

"Is there any hope of bringing him here?" That was the last thing Maia wanted; the Kelpie was unfriendly and possibly dangerous. Even without his bridle.
"I don't think Lori will ever stop," she complained, following Toby back to his office.

"If we could find a way around his 'loch-bond' we could. I think it;d be good for him, to humanize him a little. Apparently he drives the agents insane. Err. 'Agents.'" With air quotes and all.
He laughed then and shook his head. Poor Maia.

"He seemed to have the ability to drive people insane," she said, remembering how his voice had grated at her nerves. "Might be good for him. Have you brought kelpies here before?"
She moved to kiss his cheek.

Toby leaned over for the cheek kiss and smiled.
"No. We've never met one in such terrible conditions either, though. Mostly they're extinct around residential areas, the poor thing."

And the Kelpie they'd found had been starving. Maia frowned in concern. Oh dear. Maybe if they brought part of the lake with him? She took Toby's hand. "Go eat," she said, gesturing to his desk.

Toby slid into his chair and rolled a few inches before popping his Tupperware open and digging in. Dari smiled up to him.
"Having fun with your reports?" he asked.
"Oh, yeah," Toby said. He wished he could be brutally honest without getting a write-up.

Maia sat in her chair, watching the two agents interact. "We can do something fun when we get home," she suggested. Something that involved making Toby rest. "Maybe watch a movie?"

"Sure," Toby answered with a shrug. Dari just smiled. Those two were so cute.

Maia invited Lori to dinner at the Mexican place in town. Maybe not the most romantic place--maybe, but it was a weekend. No place was going to be particularly romantic with the crowds.
Maybe next time she could convince Toby to help her plan a candlelit dinner for the two of them? Lori did seem to enjoy a home cooked meal. They arrived at the restaurant, Maia getting out of the car to wait. "C'mon Toby, they might already be here!"
