I'm watching the new show on USA called "Psyche". The newest episode deals with a sabotaged Spelling Bee.
The two main characters (hey, it's only the second episode so I don't know their names) are watching the Spelling Bee and one comments about the kid onstage being under pressure. The other says something about being alone and it being tough. The first then says again, "well it's stupid he has to be in that box all alone. What is he, the Phantom of the Opera?"
And I rushed right here. XD

Kisa_Yamino In the musical Les Miserables, a couple of guys are making fun of another guy who is falling in love with a girl and they say (or rather sing): "You talk of battles to be won, and here he comes like Don Juan, It's better than an opera." for some reason it just reminds of Phantom. That reminds me of it too! Except in Les Mis they pronounce it Don Joo-Ahn...not the right way.
I don't know if someone has mentioned this already. In the movie High School Musical there's a scene where Phantom of the Opera is referenced in a rather odd way...
Chad: "Have you ever seen Michael Crawford on a cereal box?"
Troy: "Who's Michael Crawford?"
Chad: "Exactly my point. He was the "Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway. Now my mom, she's seen that musical 27 times and she put Michael Crawford's picture in our refrigerator. Not on it. IN it. So my point is, if you play basketball, you'll end up on the cereal box. If you sing in musicals, you'll end up in my mom's refrigerator."
Troy Bolton: "Why would she put his picture in your refrigerator?"
Chad: "I don't know, one of her crazy diet ideas. Look, I don't attempt to understand the female mind. It's foreign territory."

My friend and I were swimming in her pool yesterday, and something oddly phantom-ish came up.
Her: Y'wanna go out for Halloween together like we did last year? (She was Christine, I was Erik) Me: Sure, but what the heck are we gonna dress up as? Her: Well, my mom was going to make me this Gypsy costume, it was red and black, and it looked really cool! Me: (thinking) Paaaasst the point of nooooo return! No backward glances! Her: Bailee? Are you listening to me? Me: Oh...yeah...gypsy costume, phantom of the opera, whatever. Her: Well the top was like this corset thing...and then there was this long flowy skirt. The sleeves were the off the shoulder kind, y'know? Me: OMG It's the PONR dress!!! -dies- Her: Bailee...are you okay?
I also saw the HSM scene. I almost fainted when he said Michael Crawford. I'm gonna stick a pic of him IN my fridge too.
Chad: (On TV) She's seen the musical 27 times! Me: (thinking) crying I wanna see it 27 times!

I was flipping through the channels once, and stumbled across an episode of Macgyver where a set piece nearly falls on someone during a dress rehersal for an opera! After watching for a few minutes, I started thinking, "wait a minite, this is POTO!" There's even a scene at the end with an underground lake and a deformed villian training Macgyver's friend!

BakaTulip I dunno how many of you have seen the new PotC but there was a little scene that made me think of how people Stereotype PotO. But there was a scene where nasty a** Davy Jones as sitting alone playing an organ... it made me think. |If you need me|
In my mind I screamed "ERIK WANNABE!" But I would have been stoned by the crowd, and besides I liked the movie too much to interrupt and state that Davy Jones is a pathetic Erik poser.
Ophelia- I wanna see that episode! I used watch Macgyver a lot with my grandma.
Hmm...I kept thinking of Phantom during V for Vendetta 'cause I'm weird like that, but the only thing that really caught my eye was when V smashes the mirror in his room. (Reminded me of Gerik's tearful rampage against poor, defenseless pieces of glass.)
I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it, but in the episode of Spongebob where Spongebob thinks he's ugly, he puts on one of those creepy-a** glasses/fake nose mask thingies. And he starts playing an organ. It screams PotO reference, even if it's stereotypical.
I knew I should've not been lazy and started watching Psyche. (Bad Welcome-chan, bad!)

When I hear or read or think a word that was in a song from POTO, it gets stuck in my head for hours. It's worse when I'm at school and my english teacher says, "Ok. I'm gonna return these papers to you." I'm thinking, "Past the point of no return..."

Family Guy. Peter and Lois were in a car crash, or, more accurately, Peter forced Lois off the road. Then they talked with some repairman or something (I couldn't find the clip, sorry) and Peter says something like "I don't do well with plays. Remember the time we went to see the Phantom of the Opera?" Then it cuts to Peter and Lois sitting in the front row, with a Phantom onstage singing something like "Music is the gift I give to yoouuuu..." Then Peter calls out, "Hey, I wanna go home. Let's see the gross side of your face so I can get outta here." I was like, XD.

Utakan Moocat Supreme_Overlord I'm not so sure if this is a refrence but here goes... I was on TokyoPop Manga's website, and there was a manga called, A Midnight Opera... HHMM. Anywho, the main character's name is Leroux... HMMM. xD Obviosly inspired fan. http://www.tokyopop.com/dbpage.php?page=product&productid=3627You know... I would read it just because it's just a bit Poto influenced. Even if the storyline is different rofl xD I saw that in my bookstore. I spazzed at all my friends online when I came back. xP I saw that at my bookstore too. Picked it up and flipped through it, but all in all it's nothing I'd read. I kinda like Gorgeous Carat better. It's got a jewel thief and his Arabian partner and a French guy in it. X3 YAY first Post! Ok, I bought this manga. It IS a POTO reference. the main character, is like immortal. While he was alive( back in the timezone of POTO) he had a girlfriend named....CHRISTINE!!! but then she died, somehow..... It is a cool manga!

It would seem that nowadays anything with a word from a song, or from a section I remember from the Leroux book, I consider it a POTO refrence. This shows my insanity. xp

My mom and I were dropping off my cousin's boyfriend and I saw a shop that sold chandeliers. I almost grabbed the steering wheel form my mom to go to the store.
And there's a mini chandelier in the hallway of my dad's house. i saw it and I spazzed. It's maybe a foot from my room. One day I'm just gonna crash it for fun.
