Soleq The obvious pro is that he/she wouldn't make decisions based on faith. That would suggest a more utilitarian standpoint, but not necessarily. Utilitarianism does align itself more with agnosticism, but it's really up to the individual to define the fine details. I think independents are snakes in the grass. In most cases, people believe in one thing or the other: you're either pro-choice or pro-life, you're either pro-gay marriage or against it. Sure, there's varying degrees of how much you support either side, but it's a rare day where someone is dead on in the middle. I do realize that some people just plain don't care, in which case they probably wouldn't have enough gumption to run for president. So, while independents claim that they're middlemen, everyone has an opinion on the issues, so why not say so? Honestly, an independent president would scare me, but that's mainly because I feel rather strongly for the Democratic party. Well, my basic philosophy of picking independent and agnostic is that they wouldn't base their decisions on faith and they wouldn't rely on faith to get them votes and things like that. The idea of making them independent would be that they look at both sides of the issue evenly (or best they can) before they make their decision. Yes, but see I think an idependent can be more of a person that is pro gay marriage but pro-life rather than taking a more liberal only role of pro-gay marriage and pro-choice.

Anyway, in response to Butterballs, I have to disagree on the whole looking at both sides of an issue thing for an independent president. To me, independent means that I still feel strongly about certain issues, however (at least for me personally) I just fit a lot of Republican economic ideals as well as certain Democratic social ideals, and some environmental ones that fall outside either party line. As much as I would like to think I can see both sides (and I do try to understand other sides), I think an Independent president would still have some fairly set opinions, just not necessarily all the opinions of a single party. Point: Independent does not always equal looking at all things fairly; it can just be opinions that don't conform strictly to one party. As far as having an Agnostic president, I think it doesn't matter. You might end up with a person who is good at leaving religion out of politics. Or, you might just get someone so determined to leave religion out that they see or accuse others of religious intents when there are none. It might be interesting to see though.

As a Libertarian Atheist, I just have to say that I see a 0% chance of there ever being an Atheistic Libertarian president.
Quite frankly, I think an Atheistic president would be the best. That way he's able to judge situations based on what the constitution says instead of what the Bible says. A President shouldn't always be attempting to determine if his decisions jive with traditional Biblical morality. That leads to ineffective leadership, and probably clear violations of our rights. An Atheist would probably always maintain a separation of Church and State as well. Meaning, he wouldn't give any national money to any kind of religious organizations.

I've read all your comments and I'll try to get to them later. Had a lot of homework today, sorry. Now if only I can find a proxy for ROP (night class) so I can login to Gaia.
Anyway, I read another chapter today in "Using Terri" and if you ask me the whole thing seems horrific. Now, I'm not going to deny that the guy is being a little biased but I think it makes for a better book. Whether he's biased or not I still agree with him. If you ask me, at this time I think the Schindler's are ********' psycho. I only know what's in that book but it seems like that book is going to tell me a lot more than I'm going to figure out. Geeze they tried to take away Micheal's power of attorney like four times. They must have appealed Greer's decision to move the PEG tube 11 times (I might be a bit off) and they kept denying that she wasn't PVS (persistent vegetative state).
You know the shitty thing about it? Now, I don't know both the family's or anything, but it seems like to me that they're only do it for their own selfishness. I don't know what reasons they might have other than money and the fact that they "want to see her conscious" but it seems like they're just doing it for their own selfishness. And quite frankly, that's pathetic. It was stated over and over and over and over and over and over and over to them that she was PVS and wasn't going to be cured. That, or they gotta learn how to let go. And just for the record, it was stated a few times that she wanted to be DNR
Oh well, obviously the book is interesting. Can't wait until tomorrow.
Oh and for the record again, it was denied a few times by Federal and State courts.

I recently acquired Pinback's Blue Screen Life and I'm loving it.
I also had to rush ALL DAY which was very stressing. Also, I haven't been sleeping well.
I think my step-mother is showing early signs of becoming Joan Crawford from Mommy Dearest.
Woah.

PSATs are on Saturday.
And my dad won't stop harping on me, even though I've put in my half-hour for the day.
God, he's blowing this way out of proportion.

Sir_Cathl_Peabody Met Patrick Stewart today. Nice guy. Gave a nice tip for 15 minutes work that I probably didn't even deserve biggrin Everyone says that about him. He was in town filming earlier in the year and I spoke to several people who spent some time talking to him and they all said he was great and friendly and easy to talk to. I think that's pretty cool considering how rare it is from a 'celebrity' these days.

Why does one lecture for my class have to be 72 slides long??? My brain cannot comprehend that!
And a random thought: What do vegetarians think about eating insects? They are technically animals, although it is believed they do not feel pain in the same way that humans do. It occurred to me today because I was working on an insect collection for my entomology class.
