"Running away."
It was a rather blunt answer, but she wasn't used to lying. If there was one thing she was, it was honorable, and lying caused one to lose honor. Even if running away did so as well, she had to chose the lesser of two dishonors, and in this case, running away was it.
"That and tracking someone who means dishonor to my family." Odd combination, but nothing spectacularly exciting. Just a random oddity in a rather normal life, despite the circumstances.

"Running away; but hunting someone. Now that's amusing."
Leaning back in his chair he opened his mouth wide and his jaw cracked a bit as he yawned. His glass was empty by now and he idly held it in his left, looking between it and the girl.
"And why would someone be wanting to dishonour your family?"

"They smeared my brother's good name to everyone in our country. To where even his own mother wouldn't receive him into her home." The way she said it and the tone of voice spoke of how grave a sin that was wherever it was that she came from.
"When my brother chose death over dishonor, it was left to me to find him and exact retribution, but my family wished me to stay and become the next Justinius. But I think my cousin, Reg'air, would be a better one, So it's more a case of killing two birds with one stone." She thought for a moment, and realized they hadn't introduced themselves.
"My name is Eria---" She started to give her full name, and decided that would be enough. But as he yawned, she found herself yawning as well, and her mouth opened as her eyes squinched shut for a moment, and then she simply found her glass and threw down the slug of a drink.

Politics, the one of the many areas that he enjoyed toying in and one of the reasons for why he had been chosen for this planet. It was so diverse with so many would be rulers and yet somehow none of them seemed to exhibit power beyond there very small domains. The whole planet was a lesson in chaos.
"Duc."
He pronounced it as Duke, and left it at that. It wasn't as though he was going to right out say he was a mercenary sent here by Special Circumstance the covert op of Contact which was the only real group within the society that simply called itself the Culture.
"You have an interesting story, and one with lots of blood and tears in it already. It will be interesting to see how it develops."
Reaching into a pocket he pulled forth a card; it was a playing card, an eight of clubs with Duc written in fanciful cursive.
"Would you like my card?"
From an outside perspective Duc would have called his actions comical and he would have agreed. That was precisely why he used the playing card as his personal calling card. But then, it was that and more.

She looked at the card, but took it, flipping it between her fingers with practiced ease. "Interesting card, but I think you're wrong about my story. "Not that he was lying, but simply that he was wrong. One did not shed dishonor where it was not deserved.
"He is the cause of my brother's death, and so he shall pay for it, since there was no true dishonor in my brother's actions other than the forfeiture of life." her stare was rather bland. Simply stating things as they were to her point of view.

"And that is why it is so interesting."
Duc ordered another drink and went to town with the bottle. Recon was going well so he might as well treat himself to a little gift. If he truly wanted to get drunk he had to flood his body with it quickly so it wouldn't get the chance to filter it.
"Do you know where the man is? Or how to kill him?"

She wasn't clear on his logic, or perhaps his understanding of honor was flawed, but she didn't mind, even though it puzzled her. "Last I heard, he was in the so called Tri City area. He is in charge of selling herd animals in this part of Gaia. Personally, I think his family gave him this honor as a chance to redeem himself. That branch of the family has never believed in tradition much." Not that she could say anything really, she thought as she tucked it into the pocket at her breast of her coveralls.
"And I haven't decided if he deserves to share the same fate as my brother, or if I should find a more suitable way for him to suffer." A little malicious for her family's taste, but her brother was the closest thing to her before his death.

Duc smiled with glee when she pocketed the card. The first step of many was started with that small action that would expand his network of eyes and ears, well Cyn's network.
"And how was that done?"
Thinking for just a moment he remembered a common way for fools aristocratic fools who worshipped honour commonly killed themselves. Taking another drink he looked at Eria.
"Did he fall on his sword?"

She smiled, although it was a bleak smile. "His lover killed him so that she would have the dishonor of his death not him." She admired her brother's lover for that last thing she'd done. Her brother's honor had mattered more to her than her own. She took a slow sip of her drink, and then checked her arm. It hadn't been a deep cut, but she should probably check it out with the med kit at some point.
"What about you? You don't look like you fit in around here."

Duc just nodded his head for a moment; at once understanding the importance honour meant to the individual across him, and many others, and the absurdity of it all the same. Barbarians.
Leaning forward on the table he cradled his drink between his two hands and gave a very slight shrug while pursing his lips as though he was about to speak. It was a few more moments before he said anything.
"I am a simple traveller looking for things that are interesting so I might be amused and educated all at once."

"Somehow, I doubt simple suits you if you are looking for both an education and amusement." But her smile wavered around her lips. She shouldn't perhaps be enjoying this as much as she was, what with her arm injured and still seeking the man who'd dishonored her brother.
She wondered why he was spending his time with her if that was what he sought. Perhaps to his eyes she was amusing, but she did not see how she was educating. Perhaps he only needed one.

"Things are never simple; but the word complicated seems to scare people. So I say simple; but then when all is said and done I am simple."
Duc was truthfully intoxicated at this point and his speech slurred to match his lessening motor skills. He wobbled a little in his seat and seemed to put great attention into keeping his eyes open.
"You better get that closed."

She sipped her drink and looked thoughtful. Simple and complicated. Complicated and simple. She shook her head to try and think about it all. It was as bad as politics. And she'd left that behind.
"Closed? What needs to be closed?" She looked at the bottle she was drinking from, but she was still drinking from it. She even peeked at her wound, but it was no longer seeping blood, so she was now certain the wound wasn't deep at all.

"Hmm, so you're arm is no longer an issue."
Duc shook his head and blinked rapidly. He rubbed at his eyes and slowly rose from his seat. Pushing the chair out of the way he'd reach for the hilt of his sword and would let the tip fall to the floor. Leaning on the weapon he used it as an impromptu cane.
"Now. I must be off for some rest before the room spins out from under me. Good luck with your quest and thank you for the suggestions."
With that he ducked out.
