Jordan's mouth pressed into a thin line for a moment as he took in the evasive answer, but he didn't call her on it. Instead, he said, "Whisper, take care of her, please. She needs to rest."
As they entered the camp, he dodged the semi-controlled chaos of hunters running to intercept the creature, and headed straight for the infirmary tent.

"He says of course," Melody replied. As people passed, she dazedly sought out their faces. Confirming she did not know any of them - though the look one gave her after they had double-took was a bit concerning. She dismissed the implications and instead tilted her head back in search of, "Lawrence?"

Lawrence wasn’t tending to anyone specific when Melody arrived in the tent in a complete state, being carried by Jordan. The short man didn’t look concerned or upset by what he saw, cold blue eyes flickering over the superficial extent of the injuries and what was visible before he calmly gestured to one of the tables which had been previously prepared for serious cases. “Put her there.” He said. “If you would. We’ll see what we can do.” And even while he spoke he moved over to the sink area which had been set up to wash his hand. A few other life hunters joined him, helping already to prep the station for what was going to be hasty attempt to stop the bleeding. She was lucky it was mostly abdominal that he could see and that as of yet there was no sign of a major artery, though of course it would take a closer inspection to confirm anything. He didn’t shoo Jordan, considering every hunter equally entitled to be present in a situation like this, but did gesture to the water supply and cups briefly in case he needed a drink. He simply assumed the other man would want to be present because he didn’t trust him at all, this way he could see that his intentions were entirely harmless. Donning a glove – again with a little help – he turned his attention to Melody. It wouldn’t be fun for her he knew, sedatives didn’t function in the same way with hunters and he didn’t have the time to measure much else out. The shield would help her out, along with her natural regeneration. “You will need to be strong for us.” “And Jordan” he said. “if you have any charged runic bandages, please give them over, we will need to patch this up as soon as her shield comes back. Also privacy blinds if you would.” He didn’t like ordering the other man around like he was a nurse, but he assumed that he would see the urgency of the situation and comply rather than put up a fight.

MELVIN ARE YOU SERIOUS??!!
"I know my aim sucks right now it's hard to lead when it's zooming around trees!"
Why is it that the bigger something is, the harder it is for you to shoot it?!
"Because usually the biggest thing is killing me MORE!" He shouted as he prepared for another shot.

Mik finally scrambled hurriedly over to Melvin's side.
"It's BIG." he said in a very obvious way as he moved close to the other man, eyeing the bird as his rifle glowed brightly
"Really big!"
"I'll help!" He squinted at it, took aim and fired. It at the very least drew it off of Melvin...even if it was towards him instead, running once again for cover.

Jordan laid Melody down on the table, as gently as he could manage, and moved to pull the privacy curtain around the table at Lawrence's instruction. "I can get bandages," he said. "I don't have any on me." He didn't sound bothered by being given instructions; it was what he would have done for any medic seeing to a patient. It was true that he didn't trust Lawrence, but the presence of other techs made it unlikely that the man would attempt anything unethical.
Nevertheless, once he'd retrieved a package of bandages for Melody's treatment, he stayed in the area, both to keep an eye on the procedure and to be available to fetch anything else that might be called for.

"No kidding. We don't get big ones that often." But when they did, they could and would destroy everything - and everything that he had was present for it to end
"Watch yourself! If you need healing, call to me." He called at Mik as the man went for cover. Melvin aimed his own shot and fired but again didn't get anything that looked like it mattered to the beast. He felt like he was just chucking rocks at a semi than fighting.

Melody was carefully laid upon the cold hard table. She was still very much aware of what was going on. Holding mostly still, but her eyes moved from alternately following Jordan and Lawr. Sometimes instinctively turning her head whenever something was heard just out of her default range of view.
She watched Lawrence mostly. He knew better than anyone here when it came to this. He didn't seem bothered in the least. "Is it bad?" She asked.
Her dress was ruined. Aside from being ripped and frayed - dark crimson soaked through, gluing fabric to skin and flesh. The rip in her dress served almost as a ragged frame to an opening into her abdomen. Pinkish-grey organs expanded and contracted rhythmically, almost unaware that they were no longer quite where they belonged.

People really weren’t all that different from animals, at least in Lawrence’s eyes. Melody on the table was just the same as any other creature he’d ever worked on, all warmth, flesh and helplessness. At the very least he wouldn’t need to shave away fur to expose the injury, simply clean the area and begin as best he could. Her clothing was cut away to facilitate the care, though Lawrence on realization of certain factors preserved her modesty with a cover before setting about the business at hand, aware that there were various techs around, in and out of the place.
Once he got to work it was a familiar situation, his focus almost absolute. It was better than reading, on a par with playing piano in its cathartic and soothing effects. Melody was a mess but hunter regeneration would help her to recover, plied well enough with runic energy, rest and care. There was hardly a flicker of emotion in the man as he went about arranging parts back where they were supposed to be, stemming bleeding and re-anchoring organs in their rightful place. He was very capably assisted by the other life hunters on hand and drew Jordan into service a few times also. He took exceptional care with stitching, conscious of cosmetic scarring most of all.
Finally, it was over with Melody closed back up again. “Keep her plied with energy as required, hydrated and let her rest.” He moved to the sink to wash the blood from his arms and remove his gloves, he looked up at a shriek from the bird outside and frowned. “Keep her prepared to be mobilized if need be.” She would just have to deal with being dressed in a gown and sheets for the time being.

Rep knew the horsemen had to be behind the enormous bird that was currently wheeling and swooping overhead, assaulting any stragglers in the forest. However, overall, it didn’t matter to him, it was going to get put down anyway, regardless of its source. It was presently busy attacking two figures over by the edge of camp and he took its low altitude as an excuse to haul over there, running in the direction of Melvin and Mikael. When he was close enough, he summoned Tracey in a flash of energy and leapt up onto the back of the swooping and raging bird, taking a few good smacks of its wings before twisting around to bring his axe down on it. Back in camp the less combat oriented hunters had managed to set up a weapon of sorts to help with their airborne assailant. The energy harpoon – honed on the hulking beasts which had beset the island before, glowed threateningly in the jungle foliage. It would help them out against it. Quote: All hunter damage is now doubled as well and anyone without 2d12 can take a turn of the harpoon to roll those attack dice in lieu of their weapon ones. They still take backlash though as the kickback from the weapon is intense.

Hunter life tended to be an effective cure for squeamishness, if one had been inclined to such things in the first place; Jordan assisted when called upon without any particular reluctance. Once the procedure was over, he stepped closer and rested a hand on Melody's shoulder briefly. "Rest," he said, "don't get reinjured. I'll see you later." He acknowledged Lawr with a nod, blank-faced, and then turned to duck back out of the infirmary tent.
You feel responsible for her.
Kind of. I'm the one who brought her out there to get hurt, Jordan answered.
He and Ferros shared a brief, flickering succession of images and ideas, the knowledge that this life meant risking death on every combat mission and the stark fact that trainees and hunters often did die, a touch of mutual reassurance in their bond, both still here, still surviving. She will heal, Ferros said, the words underlaid with unspoken thoughts: as long as their bond is good, as long as she doesn't get herself hurt fighting again now.
There wasn't really time for extensive meditation on life and death, they acknowledged to themselves, and went to pick up a bundle of flares to make themselves a tempting target for the huge bird.
They swung when it swooped low, and felt Ferros impact with a solid, powerful shock, but the claws knocked them back, sprawling on the ground. It shouldn't be any surprise that something that big could hit like a truck, they reminded themselves, and got up. They needed someone to defend them.

Unshackled and free to fight the ghoul moved towards the chaos of hunters attacking the beast as it dipped low into the camp. Purple flames rippled from her eyes as she stalked forward. She saw Rep run past, the red headed hunter leaping onto the back of the beast before hammering away with Tracey brutal as ever, and then Jordan as well sprinting past to attack the beast. Jordan’s flare had already brought it low and so she followed behind him, her fist cracking against stone as her purple fear flickered to life around her fist.
But it was hardly worth it as the flying beast pulled up throwing Sammy alongside Jordan and the other hunters below feeling far less good then before. The lack of FEAR in this world made ignoring the pain far more of a challenge then she liked to admit as she tumbled through the dirt.
“S-so you know where Joy and Jason are right now?” She asked Jordan as she hauled herself up out of the dirt. “How long till Ferros can heal… I have an idea we can exploit that maybe… if uhhh you two don’t mind me copying him…”

Rep was really high up, but this wasn't actually too much of a concern for him. He fell from enormous heights fairly frequently, it was - at this point - something he was used to.
He focused on chopping the bird some more too.

It was strange. As Lawr worked, she could feel him. Not really though, not completely. Sharp pressure wove in and out between bouts of intense searing pain. Her consciousness slipped in and out alongside it.
"What is happening?" She wondered internally as she woke again.
"I am keeping you as safe as I can," replied Whisper with an unusually weak sounding voice.
"Now relax. Breathe. Think about something - anything else." He almost sounded to her like someone else entirely.
Still she obeyed, counting her breaths until they began to slow. Her eyes open and curiously watching anyone who fell within her range of view.
When it was all over, she was left in a thin papery gown. She didn't remember being naked at any point. Jordan left to fight and the others quickly left to tend other patients. She was left alone with him shortly after he finished washing up.
The shrieks above caused her to stir and start to slowly slide backwards on the table. She slowly bunched up the blankets with her fists.
"Lawr," she said through gritted teeth.
"What can I do?"
