Chao tilted her head curiously as the man, not bothering to get worked up as she saw how Rabid and Liam greeted him. Rotating her shoulders to work away the instive tension she took in his features with her usual brand of simplistic cateloguing. The horns brought their own bit of added instictive comfort due to familarity (a Heanza trait, but whatever, it was familar anyway) and the teen smiled.
And French speech! Or... something vaguely frenchish...?
"Nice to meet you Jean Gabriel. Qu'est que tu parlant? Francais?" Ugh, rusty french, she made a face and immediately went back to english, "it sounds like an older dialect of french, or a variation...?" she tapped her cheek and looked at him curiously, obviously hoping for an answer.
"S'oki," Reid nodded, rubbing at his antenae and blinking as Jean-Gabriel stepped in.
He cast a glance over to his Mu to see how she was reacting to this new, strange being. Seeing that she seemed relaxed he relaxed as well and tilted his head, nodding a greeting to the new man anyway.

"Ahhh~ over in the west," Chao murmured, mostly to herself, then blinked back to Jean-Gabriel at the long name. "Huh... Gabe... is much easier to remember," she nodded firmly, grinned and glanced to Bjorn, quickly stifling a giggle and mentally thanking circumstance for making her so densensitized.
"Hmm..." Reid tilted his head to the side and looked from Ike to Jean-Gabriel, trying to wrap his head around what could cause changes like that.
Synthesis?
Shaking his head to cut off the current of thought before he started to stare off into space he hugged his best friend.
Chao sighed a bit, she liked procrastinating from work, but it couldn't be helped.
With a small smile she nodded to Gabe and headed back towards the van.

Rabid piled back into the van, along with the majority of the males in her deranged family.
Jean-Gabriel shifted uncomfortable, rolling his shoulders and cracking his neck. Not only was he faintly uncomfortable about being shoved in the large, seatless gap behind the child in the carseat, he didn't fit. At all.
He also didn't quite like the sudden silence. He leaned over the row of seats and adressed Chao.
"How long have you known L--"
Rabid cleared her throat.
"...how long have you known Charlotte?"
Ike had gladly reclaimed his original seat and buckled himself in. Some about Jean-Gabriel made him oddly uncomfortable, but he couldn't quite place it.
Liam had no need to ask for directions just yet and headed back into the depths of rural Gaia.

Chao shifted as much as she could in the restraint of the buckle and looked back to Jean-Gabriel.
"Hrm... about..." she looked to her hands and counted off the months on her fingers, "eight months or so? We offically met in the laundry room," she smiled at the memory. "What about you? How long have you known eachother?"
Reid settled back on Ike's lap and latched onto one of his friend's hands and poked around on it, tracing circles and lines.
"Water, carbon, phosperous...." he murmured.
Cheshire yawned and blinked his eyes open and peered up.
He blinked once, twice at the new, odd person. "Loooooots," too many names, too much of a mix.
It made his head hurt.
Shaking his newly sore head he promptly went back to sleep.

"Laundry room?" Jean-Gabriel asked, more simply repeating the statement than posing a question. He then paused to think.
"I have known both Charlotte and Liam for...six or seven years, although I have not seen either in three." He peered up at Charlotte and smiled.
Rabid smiled back, instinctively. Jean-Gabriel was the only father figure she'd ever known.
"I hate to interrupt," Liam suddenly piped up, "but we've once again reached civilization. Care to direct me, Chao?"
Ike watched Reid with curiosity. He had a...vague knowledge of what his best friend was doing, but it was only that. Vague.
"What're you doing?"

"Mmm," Chao turned back, looking out the window to get a feel for where they were in relation to the shop, "turn left here," she pointed to the next intersection.
"I'm trying to remember all the stuff-"
"-elements."
"-right, elements, that make us up," he replied, looking up to Ike. "And drawing circles on your hand, which is made up of them. It helps me remember a little better. Do you mind?" the firefly tilted his head and poked Ike's hand with one finger.

Chao leant forward a bit and continued to instruct Liam towards the edge of Durem, sitting back once the shop came into sight and gesturing with her hand, "and... there it is."
Water's a compound.... Reid belated made the connection to his mother's misspeech but decided against telling her. After all, she still hadn't really forgiven him for abducting her text book (though what was the use of knowing the names to elements and what made things up if he didn't understand how it all stuck together and how to take it apart?)
Grinning up at Ike he shut his eyes and went back to tracing his best friend's hand, "sodium, fluorine, iron, silicon..."

Reid finished rattling off the last of the elements and compounds he could remember then lapsed into silence as the car stopped, content to just trace matrices over Ike's hand.
"Thanks," Chao replied, both for the door and to the comment and slipped out of the van then trotted over to the side, waving to Clematis as she climbed in and gently retrieved Cheshire. With her youngest in hand she climbed back out.
"Aquiring it was basicly an accident." Well, it was an accident as long as one considered the actions of two drunk Gaians to be out of their hands.
"Mmmrhm... loots," Cheshire grumbled, burying his face in Chao's shirt.
Reid made a slight face and laughed quietly at the feeling of Ike's breath on his antennae. It was odd, coupled with the suddenly amplified sound of his best friend's breathing, but not a bad sort of odd....
At his name he looked over, careful to keep his head from shifting, smiled and waved a hand to Clematis.

Chao returned the hug and grinned, "I'll be there! Break a leg wifey! And Reid, be good and stay safe!" she waved then promptly turned to Liam and Bjorn.
"Yes my boys! Work I have and help I need. Though I must warn you, there's a pantless man living in the basement and if you find any train tickets and/or see a train I suggest you run before you get saddled with another kid."
"Bye Mu! Bye Chesh! Don't be too mean to Mr. Pere!" Reid called back, waving before settling down again and nodding to Ms. Rabid with a small grin.
