The Voice began to hiss at him as he rose, startling the king after what felt like an hour of complete silence. Could the Voice hear him if he tried to speak? Or would it not care as it seemed to be doing lately?
I only want the truth, he thought with a scowl. I want this nightmare to end. That is all.

Remi heard that annoying voice in the back of his head once more, but this time he ignored it.
The Voice was jsut getting desperate, wanting pity. Wanting them to give up. He would not stop, not now.

As she climbed, she felt her hand slipping from Davyne's.
Alarm crossed her face. No. She couldn't do this alone, nor did she want to. She didn't want to face what might have meant her end on her own. Facing it with someone who was so willing to be cheerful with her--that was nice, that was something she enjoyed. Having someone to share the burden with eased the load, but it turned out she found her hand empty, and she shivered in the coldness it left her feeling.
She really didn't want to be alone.
But she couldn't figure out where Davyne had went, and frustration quickly entered her emotions, wishing she could see where the other woman had gone off to. Had she vanished, just like so much else had? Perhaps she had no choice but to push on, hoping she would find her again.
Nkosazana would call out her name in an attempt to find her, but no one would hear her voice. Nkosazana couldn't even hear her own voice, though she could feel the vibrations that indicated she was humming to herself in an attempt to stay calm as she went up stair and stair and stair.

It seemed like these stairs were infinite. She couldn't see the end, and to be honest, she already could barely make out where the damn things began. Whose idea was this? Then again, was she surprised? This was the same cruel Voice that made her believe her life was something real, her kingdom was something real, her kinsmen were something real.
In some ways, they were real. They were all real reflections of other people, but with their own experiences and memories. And even if her experiences had been fake up until this point, they were true now as she ventured upwards and onwards, determined to find out what would cause such a mess that she would not only need to betray all she knew, but abandon it and then deny it outright, so much that when she clung to people, she couldn't be certain if they were actually there.
There was a small, choked sob as she went on, but in no way was she ready to stop.
That was when she heard it.
The Voice.
Promised her a kingdom? Her laughter was weak, if unheard. Even reforged she would never be the same level as he? She didn't want to be on the same level as this voice. Bring on the stairs. Ofelia was wearing her stair climbing...hooves, or whatever.
She easily cleared a few of them on her first go and saw others starting in. She didn't bother with them because stairs and Ofelia and more stairs.

She totally cleared another set of fifteen or so steps in a single bound, mostly enjoying how easily it was to jump from stair to stair. There was still the need to get to the voice from above but she didn't feel as urgent about it as she thought she would.
