Nova flexed her claws again, the few wisps of indigo flame dying out and she looked across the battlefield at the Quilava, a little annoyed that it could move so freakin' fast. She stomped a foot and shot out a stream of flame in anger, but not before the Quilava made things even more annoying by using Smokescreen. Without waiting for Kasiya to give an order, the Charmeleon stomped forward, mouth gaping open before she exhaled a thick, hazy cloud of smoke of her own, adding to the already poor visibility on the battlefield. There, the smug Charmeleon thought, stepping back and smirking. Now, she wouldn't be the only one that couldn't see well!
Kasiya had narrowed her eyes when she saw Eris' Smokescreen, intending to have Nova just use Dragon Dance a few more times, but Nova had her own ideas and before long, the battlefield was thick with hazy smoke from both the Fire-types. Just great, Kasiya thought, frowning and wishing she had thought to teach Nova Aerial Ace or some other reliable, no-miss move.
=-=-=-=-= Magnet Bomb was relatively new for Surge and Magneton as well, so it was a rather nice sight to see the magnets detonate and deal damage to Ariados, as well as destroying some of her web and sending her crashing to the ground. Surge also wondered how a magnet attack could one in on a non-metallic Pokemon in the first place, but he figured it was wiser not to challenge it. Crenu ordered Ariados to fight back with Night Shade and the gym leader wondered how much energy the spider Pokemon had left as the dark shadow swarmed across the ground and once again engulfed Magneton. It gave a bit of a droning cry, magnets flailing as it was inflicted with damage. Surge was sure his Pokemon could continue, however.
"Alrighty, Magneton. Go ahead and use Lock-on again," the gym leader said. It was still early in this three-on-three and even he had no idea which of them would come out as the victor. Magneton recovered from the Night Shade, eyes narrowed as it once again began a series of calculations, focusing on Ariados and ensuring its next attack would hit its mark.

Karen stood silent as Keegan blurted out the entire tale. The little redhead had always had a penchant for fudging the truth to get himself out of trouble, but despite that, she believed every word that he said. There was no reason he would lie about something this serious. He may have been a bit of a troublemaker, but deep down Karen always knew Keegan was a good kid who cared for her son greatly. She remained stoic until the last thing he said. The word 'hospital' triggered her brain to flash images of Mike in his padded cell in Saffron. She remembered the tears in his eyes, the pain and anger in his voice. His cracking voice rung inside her head and without knowing, she had clenched her fists so tight her knuckles were white. They were not going to take her baby away to some crazy house again. Not. Again.
The woman walked over to the two children and gave them a big hug, kissing them on the forehead. "You two wonderful little angels." she said, squeezing them tight. "My baby is so lucky to have friends like you. I'm so proud of you both." She let go, taking out a cell phone and heading for the door. "Now let's go see him." She dialed a number and held the phone to her ear, waiting only a few seconds before getting an answer. "Todd. I was right. Yes. Mhm.
I need to borrow The Dame."
------
Sasha's brow furrowed at Kasiya's anxiety. She's a wreck. she thought. I must do somes'hing. Food. Food and water would be just the thing. The pink-haired girl looked around for any sort of vending machine or water fountain. "Aha!' she said with a slight cheer, leaning forward and giving Kasiya a light kiss on the top of her head. "You wait right here, ma chere. I'll go get you un sandwich et un peu d'eau. Oh!" she put her hand on her lips and smiled in embarrassment. "Some water. Excuse me. When I'm stressed I sometimes slip into my, how you say, native tongue?"
The girl walked over to the machine, which showcased a rather nice selection of ready made sandwiches and snacks. While she would prefer something made fresh, the last day had her so hungry she didn't really care. Her eyes scanned the selection for something for her little thunderbolt, and locked on a nice turkey sandwich with lettuce and swiss cheese. "Parfait." she said with a smile, pulling out a rather hefty wallet from her bag. "Nos'hing too hard on her stomach." A few minutes later, Sasha returned to her friend with an armful of food. "Voila!" she exclaimed, sitting down next to Kasiya and motioning for her to take the turkey sandwich. "I ins'eest z'hat you eat, ma chere. I know you are worried, but we can't have you passing out from hunger, non?" Sasha unwrapped a sandwich of her own, her smile growing wide as roast beef and a heap of mushrooms sat nestled between a hefty roll. She took a large bite and took in the taste, losing herself in what could possible have been the most rewarding post-crisis food she'd ever had. She let out a deep breath once the food had made it safely to her stomach and sat in a moment of silence. "After all." she said, a devious smirk rolling across her lips. "You'll want to be in full strength when your love wakes up, don't you?" Sasha bit her lower lip in anticipation of the girl's reaction. Even though she was trying to perk up her friend, she couldn't deny that she wondered just what was going on in that girl's head. There were questions that just needed to be asked.

The smoke was already quite thick so neither Riza nor Eris were aware of the fact that the Charmeleon had added to the blanket of smoke covering the field. Riza hadn't heard Kasiya give Nova an order though, and that unnerved her a bit, and she idly wondered if Kasiya was capable of giving her Pokemon commands without words, which would really suck for her right now. There wasn't an attack though, or an attempted attack, and Riza decided to make a move regardless. Eris did have her Foresight though and she wondered if that would help Eris find her way through the haze. She vaguely remembered seeing Swift on Eris' move list but she knew the Quilava hadn't yet learned it, and she sighed. "Okay Eris, use Foresight," she said finally.
The Quilava nodded though no one could see her and her eyes began to glow a soft red as she began to reach out with her odd psychic powers. In her mind she could see the battlefield clear as day and the Charmeleon stationed at the end of it, and the Quilava realized that Nova had used Smokescreen, too. Eris allowed herself a smirk, wondering if Nova would be able to navigate the smoke as well as she now could.

Amy hadn't known Riza very well, but in their short time together the other night before the contest, she had found the other girl to be very kind and understanding. But she definitely felt the animosity between the two trainers battling, and turned her attention to the Fire-types for a moment before the battlefield became engulfed in a thick veil of black smoke. She watched for a moment later, listening to the concern in her friend's voice. How much should she tell Karrigan? It would do no good to tell her everything immediately, that would only distract her from her upcoming battle, but she knew that she would have to share it eventually. The thought of having someone to confide in was at once comforting and unsettling. Would Karrigan even want to know everything?
"I'm fine, don't worry," she mumbled a few moments later, flashing the redhead a quick smile. "It was just some... unexpected news. I'll tell you about it later, I promise." She smiled at Amber too, belatedly noticing the Vulpix her friend was carrying. Amy glanced back towards the battle going on and frowned thoughtfully. She wasn't sure how much longer this battle or the battle going on inside the gym would last. "Hey Karrigan," Amy started quietly, "would you like to have a quick battle? You'll probably win, but I still... I wanted to get the hang of things. And you don't have to battle if you don't want to, of course."
=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Solaris was coming up quick on the duelling Electric-types, and neither seemed to notice until they heard her growl. But at that point, it was too late, and she was colliding into the both of them with all of her might, sending the two tumbling away in different directions. Luxio hadn't been knocked over, but he skidded back, looking thoroughly irritated by the whole affair. On the other side, the Shinx had been knocked onto its back and got up now, a growl building in its throat. "I bet you started this whole thing," Jade muttered, exchanging a look with her Fire-type to make sure she was all right.
Luxio advanced towards the smaller Pokemon with leisure, already glowing with the threat of another Spark attack ready to be loosed. "Solaris," the raven-haired girl barked, "let's show them we aren't to be pushed around. Ember!" The Vulpix was happy to oblige, directing herself in the direction of the oncoming Luxio and exhaling flames. Evidently, Luxio wasn't prepared and it yowled in response, leaping away after sustaining some damage. But following up immediately was the little Shinx, paws swiping at the Spark Pokemon's eyes. The large Pokemon cried out and backed away even further, shaking its head furiously in some attempt to see again. Shinx continued after it with a Tackle, and since its opponent was off-guard, it was sent rolling back into some bushes. The Luxio emerged and growled again before turning away, running back into the safety of the woods. Jade watched the little cat with interest, but it flat-out ignored her, instead turning back to Solaris with another growl. Its battle was far from over.

So it could’ve been worse? Alex supposed that was a good thing. All it really took was a mental note not to bother any insects or yellow shell things hanging from trees before she calmed down a bit. And by that time, Gou was bringing around their food. And man was it worth the wait. Alexis stared wide eyed at the gigantic, juicy bacon cheese burger in front of her, while Blues and Roll started munching on their pokemon food. She took a huge bite of her burger, and for a moment, every bit of worry and nervousness she’d felt since meeting Kressen washed away.
As she started nibbling on her sandwich, she listened to Kressen’s plan for his life. She halfway expected something like ranger, or hiker, what with that giant camping backpack he carried around, but she couldn’t say the idea of him being a cop was all that surprising. After all, he’d rushed over to try and save her and Roll from the swarm. “That sounds really cool, Kressen,” Alex grinned. “I bet you’d make a really good policeman!”
Then it was her turn, and for the first time, her ambition felt a little silly. “No, tha’d be really, really hard.” As if this is gonna be any easier, she thought with a sigh. “Right now, I guess I’m just travelling around, but I’m looking for something. My dad told me about this legend in Sinnoh about a pokemon that made everything. I wanna find him so he could maybe fix something for me.”

Despite her resolve to do nothing until she knew Mike was going to be okay, Kasiya could feel her weariness starting to get to her and as she slumped back in her chair, she could feel her eyelids growing heavier and heavier, and she idly wondered who had attached the led weights to them as she slipped off into a light doze. But then she felt something touch her head and her eyes snapped open and she saw Sasha hovering above her. Realizing that she'd almost drifted off, she sat up, rubbing her eyes. No, I can't sleep, she told herself, looking up at her pink-haired friend as she made an executive decision to get them some food, and something else, though Sasha clarified it as a drink of water. Kasiya nodded and smiled, wondering if perhaps someday Sasha would teach her how to speak French. It was such a pretty-sounding language.
After Sasha had headed off to find the vending machines, Kasiya stood up to stretch her legs and to get her blood flowing in order to wake herself up, and she tried to peer through the small window of the room where they were treating Mike, but it was too high up and she could see the scrub cap of a doctor was blocking the view anyway. She sighed and did a small lap of the area, sitting back down only when her throbbing of her head prevented her from taking another step. Sasha didn't take too long in her retrieval of food and water and Kasiya blinked in surprised, amazed at just how much she'd brought back with her. She accepted the sandwich that Sasha had picked out especially for her, and as she unwrapped it and peeked at its contents, couldn't help but smile again. "Turkey and Swiss cheese, that's my favourite. How'd you know?" she asked, peeling back the wrapper a little bit further, though she hesitated to take a bite. Her stomach felt weird and she wasn't sure it could handle food of any kind, but Sasha was right. She couldn't help Mike if she was passed out on the floor, now. She nibbled the edge of the lettuce, which almost immediately caused her mouth to start to salivate and inevitably trigger her stomach into a gurgling frenzy, and suddenly Kasiya realized just how hungry and thirsty she was. She took a bottle of water and unscrewed the cap, easily downing two thirds of it in one breath. She sighed as the cool liquid settled in her stomach, and she knew that lack of water had likely been the cause for her headache. Already feeling significantly better, she picked up the turkey sandwich once again and took a rather large bite. She was only partially through chewing when Sasha made her comment, and the sounds that she made in response as she struggled not to choke herself were far from attractive.
She managed to swallow eventually and she had another good drink of water, though she could already feel the heat building up on her face, and she quickly shook her head. "N-no, it's not like that," she said, trying to add a defensive edge to her voice but failing miserably. "I mean I care about him and everything, but... but no. We're not like that. That's Flannery. He and Flannery are m-meant to be. Everything he did was for Flannery. We wouldn't be here right now if it wasn't for her. And Keegan. I've hurt him so much. He doesn't deserve this. I don't know what to do. Thank you for the sandwich. You're a good friend, Sasha." Kasiya hadn't realized that she'd started to ramble at one point, but once she did she shut herself up and had another bite of her sandwich, chewing slowly and meticulously. It was hard not to see the tears building up in her eyes as she thought of Mike and Keegan, and how she cared for them both. Regardless of what she ended up choosing to do, she knew someone was going to get hurt and she wasn't sure she could handle that right now.
=-=-=-=-= Grotle appeared to be a little surprised by the situation he suddenly found himself in and he stared up at the strange, silver Pokemon, blinking curiously. Magnemite stared right back, quite interested in the bushy Pokemon that had taken the place of the brown one. It didn't seem to know what it was doing and before Jake could call out an order for Grotle, the Magnemite had unleashed a Thundershock, aimed right for the Grove Pokemon. Grotle gasped and hunkered down, preparing for the worst, but at most, all he felt was a tingle as the electricity passed through him, weakened by the grass components that comprised his body. Grotle examined his feet and looked over his shoulder. Except for a little tingling, he felt quite fine.
"Grass-types aren't very shockable," Jake murmured, making a mental note to himself to be more careful when matching up Pokemon types in the future, and he pointed at the magnet, still determined to capture it. "Okay, Grotle! Give it your Razor Leaf!" Sure, it hadn't hurt Grotle all that much, but he didn't like having lightning thrown at him like that so he stomped forward, the hedges on his back glowing bright green as a barrage of razor-sharp leaves were blasted at the magnet. Of course, they didn't do too much damage, but after being blasted by water twice and smacked by Bibarel, the magnet was starting to feel a little weak. It continued to drone, though the sound was much weaker. Still holding that empty Pokeball, Jake decided that this was as good a time as any, and he let it fly, watching with possibly an inappropriately grim expression as the Magnet Pokemon was sucked inside with flash of red light.
=-=-=-=-= Flannery had started to feel a little bit guilty, hiding behind Keegan and leaving it up to him to explain everything to Karen, but as he started to speak, she felt oddly more at ease, perhaps because despite his gruff exterior and penchant for solving problems with his fists, Keegan had always been very good at talking his way out of things. The story itself seemed so surreal, so outrageous and wild that Flannery could hardly believe that they'd just lived it. Her emotions shifted with each section of the story, reliving every feeling as though it were happening again, though she didn't cry, at least not until she was able to hear the pain and anger and sadness in Keegan's voice. This whole thing had affected him more than he'd ever let on, and suddenly, she felt even more guilty than before, guilty that she hadn't realized that one of her closest friends was suffering so much. She hadn't known at the time that Maxie had been responsible for driving he and Mike apart; she'd always assumed it was because of stupid boy pride and the fact that both of them were so very stubborn. And, of course, once the two boys were no longer friends, Flannery had, without realizing it at the time, taken Mike's side.
The gym leader was snapped out of her little daze as suddenly Karen shifted from scary-mom mode to sweet-mom mode, hugging and kissing them both like everything was okay. Flannery tried to say something, but she couldn't manage to convert her thoughts to coherent words so she remained silent, staring at the floor as Mike's mother whipped out a cellphone and started for the door, wondering who she was calling. Her head jerked up a little when she heard the name Todd, realizing that it was probably Todd Summers, Keegan's father. She looked over at Keegan and took his arm, careful to avoid the spot where he'd been slashed by the Magma grunt's knife, and the two of them followed after Karen as she stepped outside. The Dame? she repeated to herself. Isn't she the big momma Charizard that belongs to Mr. Summers? Nitro's mama? It clicked in then, as she was probably the best Pokemon any of them had to carry them all the way to Lilycove, as neither she nor Karen had any Flying-types of their own, and she really didn't know if Keegan had a flyer or not. Either way, they had a sort of plan now, and their priority was getting to that hospital to see Mike.

I hate battling with a Smokescreen in place, Kasiya thought, her brow furrowed as she stared into the thick, black haze, wondering where her Pokemon was as well as her opponent. On the bright side, with all the blackness obscuring the view, it meant she didn't have to look at Riza so at least she had something to be grateful for. The command for Foresight hadn't gone unnoticed though, and after a quick moment of thought, she recalled that it allowed Normal-type attacks to hit Ghost-types, and made it easier to hit evasive targets. Smokescreen and then Foresight to ensure she doesn't miss... that's clever. It's no wonder she won that contest last night, but we've got a few tricks up our sleeves, as well.
"Nova, just play it safe for now. Stick with Dragon Dance and stay sharp. If that Quilava comes near you, well, you know what to do." From deep within the smoky haze, Nova gave a quick nod, though she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched by her opponent. Her feet began to move in a rhythmic manner, along to a mystic beat that only the Charmeleon could hear. She could feel the power of her dragon heritage flowing through her and her steps became lighter and faster, and she knew if she could get her claws into the Quilava, she'd introduce her to a world of hurt.
=-=-=-=-= Once the Magnemite had vanished into the red and white Pokeball, it fell with a dull thud to the grassy ground, already rolling back and forth as the Pokemon within tried to resist capture. Jake didn't know why, but for some reason, the simplistic act of chucking a Pokeball at a weakened Pokemon felt intensely familiar, and he blinked, trying to understand what his subconscious was trying to tell him. He blinked again and instead of a beautiful field of wildflowers, he was standing in the heart of a forest, cool and quiet and calm, surrounded with the aroma of of pine and birch trees. A yipping sound caught his attention and he looked ahead, watching as a small, grey and black canine-like Pokemon lowered its head and sent a small, green worm-like Pokemon tumbling across the ground. He could feel himself smiling as he unhooked an empty Pokeball from his belt and he threw it forward, watching with excitement as the ball smacked into the worm and pulled it inside, and after a little resistance, it fell silent, a soft chime ringing out to signal the successful capture. "All right, we did it! Our first new Pokemon partner!" he laughed, running over to the ball and picking it up. He looked down at the canine that had returned to its side, and though it didn't seem as enthusiastic as he did, he petted its head. "We make a good team."
Another chiming sound rang out and Jake opened his eyes. He was back in the flowery field, with Grotle standing in front of him and looking very confused. "Oh, sorry, just daydreaming a bit," he said, forcing a laugh, but he couldn't help but wonder. Did that really happen to him at one point, or was he imagining it? The little dog-like Pokemon seemed so familiar, like he should know it, but he didn't. The thought was depressing and he started to walk away until Grotle bit down on his pants leg and started hauling him back. "Oh, right, right, I almost forgot. We caught that Magnemite, didn't we?" Grotle grinned up at his trainer as they collected the sphere, and even though he was quite happy about it, he couldn't shake that strange feeling. The forest had been vast, and he had the idea he'd been wandering around it for quite some time, but the more he tried to dwell on it, the fewer details he could recall. "Well, we should start heading back, I guess. Jade's probably wondering where the heck we've gone." Grotle nodded in agreement and the two began to trek back toward the factory, or at least the direction they hoped the factory was in.
=-=-=-=-= Both Karrigan and Amber watched the Charmeleon and Quilava intently, or at least they did until the view became obstructed by the pair of Smokescreens. So much for Amber learning from her fellow Fire-types. Karrigan also wasn't sure if she fully believed Amy when she said she was fine, but she figured it was none of her business, and if her friend wanted to tell her, she would whenever she felt comfortable. Amber's ears twitched as she looked up at the glasses-wearing girl, knowing full well that she wasn't "fine" but it wasn't like she could communicate otherwise. Instead she batted a paw at the girl, though she looked back to the smoky haze, wondering what the Charmeleon and Quilava were up to now.
"Hmm?" Karrigan answered, looking at her friend as she spoke up, and her green eyes widened a bit when she realized that Amy had requested a battle. It wasn't a bad idea, considering the two battling girls nearby, and the fact that the gym leader was currently battling, and it would be a good way to pass the time, and perhaps get some much-needed experience in for both of them. "Oh, well, I don't know if I'd win, but yeah, that sounds like... fun?" she said, the end of her sentence almost sounding more like a question. Amber was easily up for it, her six tails all swishing back and forth quite eagerly and she jumped to the ground, taking up an offensive stance and fixing her golden eyes on Amy. "H-how many Pokemon?" she asked, remembering that Amy had three - no four - Pokemon while she had five. Perhaps a battle was just what she needed to put that loss in Celadon behind her.

Amy only realized how flimsy and unconvincing her dismissal must have been a moment later as she watched the little Vulpix bat a paw at her. She frowned a little guiltily, but the mere thought of her father made her head ache terribly. A battle sounded like a better and better idea; it would clear her head and get her focused on getting that badge from Surge. Amy glanced back at the gym and wondered who was battling, and if Riza or that blonde girl knew him. They must; why else would they be battling outside the gym? Riza got her first badge here. She turned her attention back to her redheaded companion and watched the Vulpix leap to the ground, already raring to go.
"A three-on-three battle sounds good, I think," Amy replied quietly, already reaching for a certain Pokeball on her belt. She had thought of seeing how her new Meowth battled, but the Pokemon she had in mind was a much more interesting match. "Besides," she began, her tone light as she tossed the Pokeball into the air, "I think we owe these two a rematch." The sphere opened and out came Lee, who immediately took sight of the Vulpix and grinned. He had been waiting to finish off that little fox ever since he had found her in the wild grass. Amy's blue eyes sought out Karrigan and made sure the other girl was ready to battle before she called out a firm, "Lee, let's make this good! Mach Punch!" The bipedal Pokemon was spurred to action immediately, charging toward Amber as he cocked his fist back. He leapt at the little fox, his fist blurring with the speed of the first blow he threw. He wouldn't be outsmarted by that Vulpix this time!
=-=-=-=-=-=
Shinx leapt at Solaris with an unrestrained fury and with such a startling force that she was knocked on her back, eyes narrowing in response. But the Electric-type did not soon let up; it continued with a relentless flurry of attacks, scratches and bites and kicks that didn't leave the Fire-type much time to respond or even get away. Jade, at first stunned into a small bout of silence, began to call out commands for Solaris to follow, but she found that her voice could not be heard over the hisses and growls of the two Pokemon scrapping on the ground. "That thing needs to learn some restraint," she gritted out to no one in particular, wondering what the cost might be if she physically intervened to pick up that Shinx and stick it in a tree somewhere. But before she could move, she heard a low snarl and suddenly the Electric-type was knocked off of Solaris in a burst of flames. The Vulpix leapt to her feet, looking thoroughly irritated with her usually neat fur mussed and a few scrapes plain on her, loosing another Ember just to get the Shinx to back off.
Jade hadn't seen her Vulpix this mad before. Sure, she always seemed irritated and rather disdainful regarding other Pokemon around her, but now, as she snapped at the approaching Shinx, she seemed truly angry. Solaris and Shinx circled each other warily, looking for openings or any signs of weaknesses, and then the Electric-type began to glow a bright yellow and electricity began to crackle. It leapt at Solaris again and the Fox Pokemon shrunk back, but when the electrically-charged tackle hit her directly in the side, she let out a weak cry and tried to gain some distance. But it was too late; Shinx seemed to find its stride, and was already beginning to prepare for another Spark. A sense of panic flooded Jade and before she was aware of what she was doing, she was already hurling an empty Pokeball at the charging Flash Pokemon, if only to divert it. But when the sphere rocked back and forth on the ground and let out a resonant bing, she remained stock-still, half-expecting the cat to fight its way out of the sphere. Shinx did not, however, fight its way out, and Jade had no choice but to slowly walk over and scoop up the Pokeball with both hands.
"Good job," she muttered to Solaris, exchanging a look with the fox and finding herself unsure if she was proud or annoyed. If she hadn't run off in the first place, she wouldn't have gotten the both of them into this mess. "I'll talk to you later about this," was the only threat she could manage before she recalled Solaris and found herself staring again at the Shinx's Pokeball. She hadn't meant to actually catch the Electric-type, and now that she had, she wasn't sure how to feel. It was a good fighter, but it didn't know when to stop, and she wouldn't bet on it actually listening to her. After another moment's deliberation, she released the kitten back into the open, upon which it turned and snarled at nothing before realizing its opponent was gone. Shinx stared accusingly up at Jade. "Look," she began, running a hand through her hair, "what we're going to do before anything else is head back to that factory. You know the way, so lead me. I'm your trainer now, and later we're going to sit down and I'm going to inform you about something called self-restraint, but right now, just lead." The Flash Pokemon's gaze was not kind or very respectful, but after a beat, it turned around and began to pad back where it had found this girl and her stupid little fox. When Shinx turned around and stared at her like she was stupid for not following, Jade let out a small sigh and began to head after her new Pokemon, sincerely hoping that Jake would beat her there.

It was actually easier to find his way back to the Ironworks than he thought it'd be, as all he had to do was follow the trail of trampled flowers and greenery that he'd made in his rush to chase after Magnemite. He frowned as he walked, studying the damage and wishing he'd thought to be more careful, uttering quite apologies to the flowers for his recklessness as though it could miraculously perk them up. Grotle tottered along behind him, also looking apologetically at the damaged flowers, though he wasn't able to do anything to help them. Some species of Grass-types could heal and control plant life, but Grotle wasn't one of them. If you needed to find clean, fresh water, however, Grotle was the 'Mon for the job. The duo eventually found themselves back on the cobblestone path that led to the front doors of the factory, and Jake felt his heart sink when he saw that Jade was nowhere in sight. "Jade...?" he called softly once they'd reached the entrance, but still no sign of the dark-haired girl. Perhaps she'd grown tired of his bumbling and moved on without him.
Jake had resolved to move on as well, but the doors to the factory swung open, revealing the two workers from before, both eying him suspiciously. "Kid, yer back. What do you want now?" the first one asked.
"Nothing," Jake answered honestly, but he held out the red and white sphere that contained his new Magnemite. "But I caught that Magnemite, so it won't be bothering you guys anymore. By the way, have you seen my friend?"
"You caught it? Thank god," the second worker said, breathing a heavy sigh. "That thing was a nuisance. You did us a favor, kid, thanks a lot."
"Yeah, thanks kid, yer all right," the first worker said, clapping Jake on the back with a hand. "You mean that girl? Well, her Vulpix ran off on her so she had to go after it. They went that way," he said, pointing.
Solaris ran off? So maybe she didn't abandon me, Jake thought, the corners of his mouth twitching upwards in a small smile. He didn't know why but the thought of being all alone out here (well, without another person), was quite unnerving to him. And, he genuinely liked Jade, even though she was quite the little sourpuss most of the time. "Thanks, guys, don't work too hard," he said, waving goodbye to the workers before he set out, though when he took a step, the strap of his left sandal snapped, causing the boy to stumble a bit.
Upon seeing this, Jake was then given a small lecture about the importance of proper footwear, and the workers, though a bit rough around the edges, were kind enough to give Jake a pair of sturdy boots as well as a pair of socks (it was heavily insisted upon that they were clean!). They also coughed up a canteen of water and a bit of food for the two kids, as Jake had further explained the mess he and Jade had gotten themselves into. So, a bit better set for traveling around, Jake once again thanked the workers and began to head in the direction that Jade and Solaris had gone in.
=-=-=-=-= "Three, that sounds good," Karrigan nodded, once again looking to her Vulpix. Amber certainly looked ready to rumble, and the redhead idly wondered if being bested by a plant was the reason Amber was so eager. Indeed it was, as no Fire-type liked losing to something they should be easily able to burn to a crisp, and Amber had made a silent vow to go into that gym next time and take down all of that gym leader's Grass-types by herself. Karrigan took a deep breath and readied herself, realizing she felt a little nervous. She knew she shouldn't be, as she had some battling experience and she'd trained with Candice, after all, but that didn't help to quell her nerves. Perhaps it was because she would be battling a friend?
Friend or not, however, Amy had steeled her own courage and made the first move, having chosen her feisty little Tyrogue to face Amber. The Vulpix let out a feral growl and her normally soft and silky fur bristled at the sight of the Scuffle Pokemon. That little ruffian had attacked her for no good reason, and now she had a chance to teach the little pest that little Pokemon that played with fire got their fingers burned! The Mach Punch was coming in fast, but Karrigan knew that Amber was fast, too. "You can avoid that, Amber," she said. "Use your Quick Attack if you have to." Amber, however, had other ideas and instead glanced back over her shoulder at her trainer with a look that clearly stated "watch and learn, human!" She squared her paws firmly on the ground and waited, already starting to glow with a faint light as the fist drew nearer and nearer. When Lee was practically in her face, Amber unleashed her Confuse Ray right into his - an array of flashing, hypnotic lights. Of course, this came at the cost of Lee's Mach Punch striking her squarely in the chest and the pain rippled through her body - she remembered being hit with this move before. Refusing to show weakness she ignored it and trotted back, putting a bit of distance between herself and the Tyrogue.
At first, Karrigan had started to feel annoyance, as refusing to dodge had been Amber's downfall in that last gym battle, but she refrained from scolding the fox for now, as her Confuse Ray counter had actually been quite clever. Karrigan knew that Amber wasn't able to take too many hits, however, so sacrificing herself to get in an attack like that probably wasn't as wise as the fox thought it was.

Sasha smirked as Kasiya fumbled over her own words. She just told her everything she needed to know. "Ah, amour." the pink-haired girl said with a teasing sigh. "It makes us do z'he craziest s'ings. Z'here was z'his one time, where I really liked z'his boy, and my parents absolutely forbid me from having boys in my room, so I stole my butler's Alakazam and teleported him in! Oh man the s'hings he-" It was as this point in the story that Sasha realized that she was in a very public venue, as evident by a scowling mother cupping her hands over a very confused little girl. She cleared her throat.
"Anyway. Z'he point iz," she put her hand on the girl's back. "You're not a bad person. You s'hink you're z'he first girl who has conflicted feelings?" Sasha flashed Kasiya a cheerful smile, then leaned in to plant another small kiss on the girl's forehead. "In fact, you're quite wonderful. You ever get tired of z'hese silly boys you let me know, okay?" her sweet smile turned devious as she gave a quick wink, before immediately throwing her hands up in false dismissal. "Mais only if you have nos'hing else going on!" she threw her head back dramatically. "I don't come between lovers...anymore. Now come! Allons-y! Let's get you all freshened up!" Sasha gently grabbed Kasiya's arm and led her to the bathroom.

"Hey, kid, don't ignore me, it's rude!" Joe shouted, perhaps a little too concerned with Jasper's lack of manners than the Pokemon battle that was going on right in front of him. Pete, meanwhile, had fallen into silence and was steadily backtracking away from Jasper and his apparently more-dangerous-than-they-seemed Pokemon.
"It's rude to take other people's Pokemon," Jasper countered quickly, choosing to avoid making eye contact with the Rocket, as it was time for Sandshrew to join its teammate in the land of paralysis. The mouse gave a pained cry as its joints all began to lock up and moving around with ease was now a serious issue. Paras gave a small cry of its own, more like a war cry than anything else, but Jasper chose this moment to recall the Mushroom. With two paralyzed opponents and the likelihood that neither Joe nor Pete carried any other Pokemon with them, Jasper was sure Totodile could handle this. And handle it she could, for as soon as Paras was cleared out of the way she rushed at Sandshrew, using her powerful legs to spring forward. She landed right in front of her target and proceeded to chomp down hard on its arm with her powerful jaws, and after a moment, Jasper realized she'd learned how to use Bite. "If you ask me, you should give up. You know, before you get hurt," the boy added as Totodile added insult to injury by raking her claws across the still-paralyzed Sandshrew's face.
By now it was clear that Jasper had the upper-hand, and Joe knew he was right. His pride, of course, thought otherwise, but he knew if he continued to fight, not only would this kid beat them, but he'd ruin their reputations. "Pete, we're out of here," he grumbled finally, holding up a shaky hand and recalling his battered Sandshrew. Totodile, who'd still been chomping on the mouse fell to the ground, but she got up and growled at the two humans. If they made a step towards Jasper, she'd bite their legs off! Pete could only manage a meek nod and he attempted to recall his Koffing as well, but his hands were shaking so bad he dropped the sphere and it clattered away. Not bothering to chase it, the Rocket grabbed his other gear and turned tail and fled. Joe was right behind him, casting a dark look at Jasper. "You'll pay for this, kid," he growled, and then he was gone, as well, only just ducking out of the way of a bolt of lightning fired off by Ditto-chu.
For a full minute, the trio stood there, listening to the sounds of the retreating Rockets, and only when silence filled the cavern did any of them dare to breathe again. "Well, that was... interesting," Jasper sighed, choosing that exact spot to sit down and gain his bearings. "Let's not do anything like that again, any time soon, all right?" * * * * * * * * * * Hayley hadn't realized just how hungry she was until she'd started to enjoy her food, which was suddenly disappearing at quite a rapid rate. She managed to employ proper table manners, however, save for the occasional moan of happiness as she savoured every bite of her meal. She also listened attentively as her dinner companions spoke of their future plans, and like Alex, hadn't been expecting to hear Kressen say he wanted to be a policeman. "Ooh, I agree, Kressen! You'd make a fantastic policeman!" She had another sip of her yummy milkshake and looked over toward her Pokemon, glad to see the three were eating their meals in peace, though Mya was still trying to position herself right next to Cynder. The Charmander had given up fighting the Rattata, however, and simply chose to ignore her, instead. The female Nidoran, meanwhile, kept her distance and ate quietly.
'They're all so different,' she thought fondly, looking back to Alex as she started to divulge her future plans, though she seemed almost hesitant to start. Indeed, Alexis' plans were far greater than achieving fame and glory as a Pokemon Master, and Hayley felt a throb of excitement in her chest at the mention of a legendary Pokemon. Legendary Pokemon sightings were something all Pokemon Watchers hoped for, though of course, many went through their careers without so much as a glimpse. But Alex wanted to find this Sinnoh legend, and employ him. Hayley touched a finger to her lips. She'd read many books about legendary Pokemon, and after a moment, she nodded. "I think you mean... Arceus? The Legendary Pokemon said to have been born from an egg in a place where there was nothing, and then proceeded to shape all there is in this world." She paused, wearing a thoughtful look. "That would be incredible, to meet Arceus. Professor Oak told me that some researchers don't think he truly exists, but I sure hope he does, for your sake, Alexis."
She finished the last bite of her club sandwich and wiped her mouth with a napkin, chewing thoughtfully. "I'm looking for something, too. Or, someone, rather," she admitted, looking down at the crumbs on her plate. "My brother. We were separated when we where very young, and even though I'm striving to become a respected Watcher, I'd really like to find him. More than anything." After speaking, the brunette fell silent, wearing perhaps the first disdainful expression since meeting Alexis and Kressen, but it was only temporary as she perked right back up a minute later. "This food is so yummy, I'm definitely going to come back here!"

'We have to do something soon, otherwise Nova will just keep powering up and it'll mean trouble for Eris,' Riza thought, being sure to mentally track how many times the Charmeleon was to use Dragon Dance. It was only two right now, but those glowing claws had been quite scary and she didn't want Eris getting a chunk taken out of her. 'I guess it's time to deploy our secret weapon then!' Riza pushed her hair back, closing her eyes as there was no sense in letting them get irritated by the smoke, and she did her best to speak in a clear, steady voice. "Eris, it's time for your special move," she said, unable to suppress her grin.
Eris stood up on her hind legs, a little confused. Wasn't Foresight her special move? No wait, Riza meant her other special move, the one she'd wanted to use right from the start. The Quilava closed her eyes as well and reached out with her mind, her whole body giving off a curious yet beautiful golden glow as she did so (thought it wasn't like anybody could even see it). She let her conscious wander until she could sense the Charmeleon, and then with a growl, she unleashed her psychic fury in the form of her special Extrasensory attack.

Amy watched with rapt attention as Lee advanced, her usually warm blue eyes becoming quite serious. She knew they were at a disadvantage: her Tyrogue was, for the most part, only capable of using close-range offensive moves, which meant that he would have to charge Amber again and again. But the Vulpix did not have the same limited movepool and she could not only keep the Fighting-type at bay, but also work some status-type moves on him, like Burn. She glanced back up at Karrigan, almost uncertainly, because the Vulpix did not seem to have any intention of avoiding the attack, as commanded. But instead, she used the advantage of the close range to land a Confuse Ray on Lee just as he landed his hit. The Fighting-type cried out in surprise and stumbled back, distancing himself even further, his hands rubbing furiously at his eyes. Amy frowned and thought over what she could possibly do--which proved to be not much. Lee only had five attacks and he wasn't going to evolve any time soon, but hopefully this battle would get him that much closer.
"Try to use Tackle," Amy called out, making sure to keep her voice steady. It wouldn't be exactly encouraging if she was very plainly uncertain in their chances of victory. Lee grunted an affirmative and tried to direct himself at Amber, but as soon as he began to run towards the fox, he tripped over his own feet and landed hard on the ground. Pain lanced through his legs and he groaned in response, still absently shaking his head as if to rid himself of the Confusion. The Scuffle Pokemon pushed himself up, being no stranger to pain, and vowed that the next time he got a hold of that troublesome Fire-type, he would make sure to hit her twice as hard as revenge.

Any doubts of the Shinx leading to her to her doom seemed to fade away when the trees gradually began to thin and Jade began to recognize some of the small landmarks she had passed on the way here, like an oddly-shaped rock with scorch marks on it. She still scowled at the Electric-type whenever it looked back at her with impatience, but quickened her pace nonetheless. She shouldn't be that mad that she caught a Pokemon, especially one that knew how to fight, but she had a hunch that Shinx would not get along so well with Solaris or Aquarius and she hated to rock the boat. They walked for a few minutes in silence, the dark-haired girl pondering on this new addition to her team and how they would work together, until they came upon an actual path. Immediately, Shinx froze and began to snarl, fur bristling, and Jade peered curiously down the path to discover a familiar blonde heading their way.
"Oh, calm down," she grumbled, scooping up Shinx in her arms and running a hand along its head as Jake neared. "This is our friend, Jake." Seeing her companion did make her relax a little, despite the fact that the blue kitten was wriggling in her arms, trying to get free. "Hey there, cowboy," Jade said casually, raising a brow, "did you get your Electric-type? I got mine." She lifted up Shinx for the boy to see more clearly, which earned her an indignant glare and earned Jake a mild growl as a greeting. "A real bundle of sunshine."

Jett found himself sitting on a tree stump he had discovered nearby, still studying the Ekans' Pokeball in his hands. After a moment, he retrieved his Pokedex and began to look up information on the Snake Pokemon. It sneaks through grass without making a sound and strikes unsuspecting prey from behind... one of the entries read, which brought a small smile to the boy's lips. Maybe that's why the Hoppip had been fleeing the grass. After a moment's deliberation, he released the Poison-type, still weakened from her battle with River. Ekans hissed at him, but found no fear in the boy's eyes and seemed quite disappointed with the lack of reaction.
"I'm Jett," the black-haired boy introduced himself, which felt somewhat absurd, but Ekans had a right to know who he was. "The one who fought you--that was my friend, River. And I think I'll call you Naja, if that's all right with you." Naja made no reply, but canted her head to one side. Finally, she hissed again, but it sounded more resigned and less angry. Jett smiled. "Good. Why don't we see what you can do?" He stood and nodded in the direction of the tall grass from which the Snake Pokemon had came. Naja seemed eager to comply, already slithering towards the grass with surprising speed. There was silence then, but Jett watched the grass rustle as the Poison-type easily moved through it, and then another small cluster of Hoppip were taking to the sky, apparently very distressed. "Naja, not scaring Pokemon. Battling them!" he called into the grass, eliciting an irritated noise in response. After another pause, Jett heard something cry out in surprise and a Rattata came charging out of the grass with the purple snake hot on its tail. Jett watched with interest, already checking his newest addition's movepool to call out an attack, but Naja beat him to it. She lashed out, landing a powerful-looking Bite on the mouse's side, and it squeaked in response before turning and bracing itself for battle. "Well," the trainer sighed, "at least she's... enthusiastic."

Four Years Ago
“You two really shouldn’t have waited this late.” Professor Pine was less than thrilled as he began his trek to New Bark Town. Or rather, as he was dragged on his son’s trek to New Bark Town. His face was buried in a single hand, the other loosely curled around a pokeball in his palm. He let out a long sigh, only to see two pouting children almost glaring at him with fire in their eyes.
“It’s not our fault Mom thinks pidgey and rattata are gonna kill us. Like they don’t have anything better to do or somethin’,” Scarlet said with a scowl. It was easy to see how annoyed the poor kid was. He’d been waiting for this since he could talk. Picking up his little Totodile from Professor Elm. The fact that he had to wait two more years after his tenth birthday until his mother was quite sure he’d be able to take care of that Totodile only added to the power of his present pouting. The few hours he spent pacing around the front lawn nibbling on his thumb nail was just the icing on his ‘why are my parents torturing me’ cake.
“Can we just like go?” Cyan grumbled as she snatched Scarlet’s wrist and darted into the tall grass. The wait was even worse for her, all things considered. The blue haired girl could’ve run off to get the cyndaquil she wanted so badly when she turned ten. But she held off. After all, such a massive head start on her rival wouldn’t have been fair. Not since they’d been talking about their first pokemon battle since they’d met.
Professor Pine just sighed and smiled a bit. He couldn’t say they didn’t deserve it. And that first fight would definitely be something to see.
~~~
“Alright,” Scarlet said with a quiet seriousness. This wouldn’t be anything like the old battles they had when they were kids. Battles where he and Cindy could take risks. No, a single wrong move could lead to a painful loss via water gun and who knew what else. Ember would be nearly pointless…Cindy stood bristling, waiting for an order, anything, but it didn’t come. She hazarded a backward glance at her trainer. She didn’t like what she saw. One of his fists hung clenched at his side, the thumb of his other hand actively losing its nail to a nervous tick.
“You’re the last guy I’d just expect to shut down! But if you need a wakeup call… Vector, let’s start out with your Rage!” Cyan’s grin faded just a bit as she issued the order her Croconaw, not that the big crocodile noticed. He was just excited that the awkward posturing was over. Vector’s massive jaw dropped, his eyes taking on a red tint as he let out a roar. And if Cindy could say one thing about the attack, it’d be that Vector moved faster than she’d have ever imagined.
“…Tch! Cindy! Counter it with a Tackle!”
A tackle? Fighting water types was the absolute worst if this was what she’d been reduced to. With a glare matching Vector’s, Cindy charged straight ahead, slamming her skull into his gut. And surprisingly enough, that tackle was strong enough to knock the gator back. But an odd glow overtook the stumbling Croconaw as he let out an even more fearsome roar. And as Cindy backed away, fur bristling, he glared at her with bloodlust in his eyes.
Kasiya peered over her bread at Sasha, somehow sure that no matter what she said, somehow the pink-haired girl would never be satisfied unless she were to say exactly what she wanted to hear. The only problem with that was that Kasiya didn't really know what to say. The confusion in her heart and mind felt like a thick fog bank. She sighed and set her food down, once again looking over at her friend as she had started to speak, but her eyes grew wide in surprise and her mouth hung open at the story and she had to look away, staring at her shoes and wondering why she felt so silly. Before Mike and Keegan, she'd never even really considered having a boyfriend, as all her free time and thought was pretty much dedicated to learning about Pokemon. As she thought about it, though, she started to wonder if perhaps her father had planned it that way - keep her mind occupied with Pokemon so that he'd never have to worry about the whole boys-dating-my-daughter thing.
She jumped a little when she felt Sasha's hand on her back, but she was able to calm herself rather quickly and she nodded, now thinking about Flannery and what the gym leader must be feeling. Sasha certainly had a knack for saying the unexpected, however, and Kasiya found herself in a state of mild shock for the second time in minutes. She managed a small smile of her own and a blush to match, though she wasn't entirely sure if Sasha was being serious, or just trying to make her feel better. Either way, it had worked, and she did feel a little better, and she beamed up at her friend. "Thank you, Sasha. You're pretty wonderful yourself. And I'll keep that in mind," she added, though she wouldn't get to say much else as before she knew it, she was being tugged to her feet and toward the washroom. The idea of washing some of the grime from her skin was nice, and running some cold water over her hands wouldn't hurt, either.
=-=-=-=-= It was odd for Jake, suddenly adjusting from the sandals he'd worn earlier to the boots the workers had given him, but the very fact that his feet no longer protested with each step was definitely a welcome change. Grotle eyed his trainer's new footwear somewhat critically, but he seemed to be having an easier time now so he kept quiet and instead chose to keep a lookout around them, lest they be attacked by anymore Pokemon that randomly liked to blast things with electricity. Jake had taken out Magnemite's Pokeball and was tossing it up and down, still trying to tack down those images he'd seen in his mind before.
Grotle spotted Jade before Jake did, as he'd been progressively tossing the sphere higher and higher, and the Grove Pokemon gave a happy cry and started hurrying toward their friend. He stopped, however, when the blue cat began to snarl at him and he waited for his trainer. Jake finally spotted the dark-haired girl and he smiled, the Pokeball landing in his hand after a particularly high toss, and he carefully studied the Shinx. "Yeah, I did," he said, holding out the sphere. "I don't know why, but I'm really happy that I caught this guy." He clicked the button and Magnemite appeared, a quiet drone emanating from it. Having realized that it had been captured it did a small loop around Jake and gave him an affectionate nudge, though because of his hard, steel body it was more like an affectionate punch. "Who've you got there?" he said, ignoring the pain in his head and nodding toward the cat. Magnemite spotted the Electric-type and instantly zipped over to it, droning excitedly as it studied the Shinx from every angle.
