Leilani Kamea Malu Freshmen 【 Mahalo nui ia Ke Ali`i wahine 】 〖 `O Lili`ulani `O ka Wo hi ku 〗 ﹙ There’s no place I’d rather be ﹚ x﹙ Then on my surfboard out at sea ﹚ xx﹙ Lingering in the ocean blue ﹚ xxx﹙And If I had one wish come true ﹚ When his voice finally broke through the silent tension that stood in between them, Leilani couldn't help but let out a large breath. It seemed that she had been holding her breath all that time. "Y-Yes. I meant everything I said." She replied in a voice just above a whisper as she removed her hands from her dress, smoothing out the wrinkles that she had just created before she reached up and began to braid a large part of her off-colored hair, which comforted her when the situation proved to be a bit much for her. She closed her eyes as she did this, not even daring to look up at Andrew, she didn't know what else to say really. But as she felt his fingertips upon her shoulder and her momentum suddenly before directed towards him, Leilani's eyes immediately opened, her face still red as she landed against Tennessee's taut side. Blinking up at him, her bright blue iris' shining in the daylight, she then relaxed a bit into the hug, the beginnings of a shy smile appearing on the corners of her mouth. When he then asked what word she had used to say family, she just continued to stare at him, almost bewildered with the question before she cleared her throat, looking away for a moment before she responding, "The word I used is 'ohana. 'Ohana means family. Family means that nobody gets left behind...or forgotten." She told him as she looked away from, actually just remembering that little proverb that she had heard some of her people use a long time ago.
But as she took that moment to begin to calm down, since she had never spoken to the elder state in such a friendly fashion before, so this was all so new to her, she heard a vaguely familiar voice scream out from the park. Looking up, still braiding her hair, Leilani saw another elder state, Leah approach them. Again, she wasn't too familiar with the Eastern state, but she was being nice enough to address her, which made the island state a bit happier. "A-Aloha Leah." She said with a gleeful smile as she lifted her free hand to wave at her. "I know, it's been far too long." (HawaiianRollarcoasterRide - . . .)

The State of Tennessee Andrew S. Hickory //////////////////////////////// "Ohana?" Tennessee repeated and tried hard to commit it to memory. Just as he was about to say something, a voice called to them and his cheeks flushed when he saw Leah bounding their way. The bashful state let go of Hawaii as one of their oldest siblings approached. He stiffened at the nickname and shot her an indignant frown. "L-Leah, don't call me that!" he gawked with a dark blush. Where did she get the idea to call him Fluffy? There was nothing fluffy about him! He started to tell her just what he thought of that name, but having his head affectionately assaulted cut him off. Tennessee cringed as his expression turned more flustered and he looked like a cat whose fur had been rubbed the wrong way. Which really wasn't too far from the truth. //////////////////////////////// Grade 9 The Volunteer <> <>

What was it that the elder sibling said. 'Wicked?' What in Laka's name was that? Well she knew it as a term to describe someone of evil, was Leah calling her evil? But another thing that bothered her was that she called her a 'dude'. Leilani knew for a fact that she wasn't a boy. So this confused her, maybe Andrew would be able to explain it later to her. But as Leah moved forward and trapped the small island state into a large hug, Leilani looked over to Andrew, almost asking for help, but mostly surprised by her quick actions. Leah had pinned down her arms in between their two chests since she was currently braiding her hair at the time of the hug, and it was actually starting to hurt a bit. "U-Um, thank you Leah?" She replied, not really knowing what else to say at the moment. (HawaiianRollarcoasterRide - . . .)

First In Flight The Tarheel State The Old North State
North Carolina, USA Charlotte Wilson Freshman The state didn't know if that was really a compliment or a statement but it felt good to know that the nation seemed to understand her at least. "Well I sure hope that one day we all would be able to understand one another better. But then again what's a family without a few quarrels? The world would be pretty dull wouldn't it?"Glancing over to her brother and sister, she saw her older sister Massy had joined them and Charlotte decided to keep her distance since there was no telling if she was in a good or bad mood. The Carolina suddenly remembered back on the second day that Leah was hidding underneath a table at the cafe, hurt. As Charlotte had promised, she never told anyone about it. (Out of Pepsi: ) Southern Slang Dictionary: everyone is called 'darling', "yall" is a proper noun, sweet tea is the house wine, and you never EVER disrespect your elders...

Toris Laurinaitis Sophmore "I know..." his stomach tightened a bit because he was scared but he was more frightened for the other's safety. "I just don't want you going alone. With all these things happening.. you just never know what might appear and ..." His body automatically trembled. Even if his memory of the scene was still hazy, his body remembered the feeling and pain from it. Toris shook his head. "I just want to be able to help even if it's small." (Out of Vilnius:.) The State of Tennessee Andrew S. Hickory //////////////////////////////// Andrew almost flailed when Leah's arms encircled him and he instantly tried to escape from her clutches. Which he knew from experience was virtually impossible to do without resorting to violence... and he couldn't do that to one of his sisters. So he was stuck. "Q-Quit it!" he yelped and tried to pull back no matter how futile it was. Tennessee hadn't quite been expecting her to let go so suddenly and when released he went toppling off the bench with a noise somewhere between a yelp and a swear. Before he could even think to retaliate in some way she was gone trotting across the park towards Charlotte and the redhead. "Why that..." growled softly and huffed although he couldn't stay mad at his big sister for long. Somehow Leah always got him like this. His interactions with her almost always left him feeling like a hit-and-run victim. The boy climbed back to his feet and dusted his bottom off before turning back to Leilani with a faint blush and coughed awkwardly. "Um... so... Don't mind Leah too much," he muttered as he rubbed the back of his neck. "She's kinda hard to understand sometimes, and she's a touch not right in the head, but she means well..." Andrew paused as he tried to recollect himself and smiled at his little sister. "So you said ohana means nobody left behind, right?" he asked hesitantly and blushed faintly. His gaze tilted downwards as if the ground was suddenly very interesting, but the bashful little smile remained on his face. "I like that... Is it ok if you and me are an ohana? I-If you wanna, I mean... I'd like it a lot if we could. I don't know if we've really been one so far, but I wanna try a little harder if you don't mind." He sounded like an idiot as usual, but his words were sincere. Tennessee wasn't sure if he had felt like Hawaii's big brother until this day. Sure they called each other family, but there had been little meaning or feeling behind it other than claiming a familiarity as part of the American Union. Now, though, Andrew hoped that they could become a true "ohana" as Leilani has put it. //////////////////////////////// Grade 9 The Volunteer <> <>

Sighing to herself as she adjusted Honolulu on her neck, turning it a few times in a clockwise motion so the clasp that held it together wasn't facing outwards and that it could instead be hidden underneath her long, blue-green hair. Sighing silently to herself as her hands recollected themselves in the lap of her red dress, her attention was then directed to her older brother, who was currently smiling down at her. At his question, she tilted her head to the right in an innocent manner, her hair spilling over her shoulder and cascading down to her lipid waist like a waterfall of blues and greens, glistening in the sunlight. "Yes, 'ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind, or forgotten." She repeated her earlier statement, her hands writhing about slowly, not wanting to start to squirm while sitting next to him. She managed a shy smile up at him before she began to hear the rest of his conversation. Her eyes couldn't help but widen, as the rest of her mouth stayed frozen, as if she were just hit by a freeze ray. Was he being serious? Did he actually want to 'ohana with her? By the way he spoke and acted in front of her, she just knew that it had to be true. She lifted her left hand and hesitated for a moment before she placed it upon his right hand, giving it a genuine squeeze as her smile widened a bit more. "I'd really like that." She told him simply, her face having a nice pink hue to it as she spoke. "I want to be there for you, to help you when you're sick and weary, to protect you when you need it, to be your comfort when you're having a horrible day." She began as she squeezed his hand a bit more. "As 'ohana, I will do everything in my power to make you feel happy and loved, okay?" (HawaiianRollarcoasterRide - . . .)

The State of Tennessee Andrew S. Hickory //////////////////////////////// Tennessee's cheeks flushed scarlet at Leilani taking his hand and saying all those sweet words to him. It almost sounded like a marriage proposal no matter how you looked at it. The older state glanced away shyly while he tried to gather his thoughts. When he said 'ohana he really hoped that meant the brother-sister kind of family although now he was wondering if he'd just accidentally proposed to his little sister. That was impossible, right? ... Right? "Y-Yeah... me, too," he mumbled shyly as he looked back at her with a tiny, awkward smile. "A simple yes woulda been fine, but thanks... I'll try to look out for you better from now on." As a brother, of course, he wanted to add, but mentally kicked himself to make sure he stayed quiet. It was probably just a cultural misunderstanding and he certainly didn't want to say or do something that would make Hawaii embarrassed. "Um... do you have any songs I might know you'd like to hear?" he asked. None of their other siblings had arrived and it looked like Leah and North Carolina would be preoccupied for a while longer. Playing a few more tunes would be nice so long as nobody tried to throw money at them again. It was a little embarrassing. //////////////////////////////// Grade 9 The Volunteer <> <>
