sybex Shark Name- Sybex, Rin, or Naorom, but you can call me bex if you want. I haven't figured out my Wiccan name yet, if I choose one. Thinking something to do with Horus or Bastet... Religion- Agnostic and PFDist (Pink Fuzzy Dice. It's a religion, damn it! I'm going to write a bible for it and everything! I'm setting up an alter, too!) Practice Time- Well, I just got my first book on Wicca (Wicca: A guide for the solitary practitioner) yesterday... so not long! xd But I have a couple friends who are into it, so I figure it's worth studying (and so far, it's very interesting.) Anything else- I'd really like to do one of the rituals... but mom says I'm not allowed to have fire (So maybe my oldest brother and I ARE pyromaniacs, but we haven't burned nothin' down... yet.). Anyone else have that problem?
Oh, and about stones used in rituals... is it okay if they're attached to a necklace?
And finally... I'm 13 and I love drawing anime/manga-style. Seriously. Obsessed with it. Taking classes in the basement of a comics shop to learn it. I think that's partly where my interest in Wicca and other religions comes from (anime and manga and comics are treasure troves of weird religious customs and different beliefs from different cultures, and there are some similarities in those even to Wicca, though I'm not sure Wicca is very large in Japan, where most anime and manga is made). At the moment, the only thing I'm worried about is how I'm going to do a Wicca ritual... there's a great place in my room (card table facing a window that opens out to woods and a small, very small creek), but the candles and incense and circle... *sighs* sweatdrop
Actually, in addition... I sorta made a banner for the guild, but I don't know where to post it. sweatdrop Sees?
Welcome! You sound like an interesting person, plus I already read about you in another topic by Aylia lol. I hope you post often! I'm sure you'll catch onto the craft fast, exspecially with your friends to help, if you get out every now and then. The only book I own about wicca right now is Scott Cunningham's Wiccca for the Solitary Practictioner too. If you haven't found it yet post your banner in the guild banner fourm. It's a sticky so it's not to hard to find. Also, it's fine to use a stone that is a necklace.

He has a second book too, Living Wicca, it's okay (haven't read it yet, but I looked over it and bought it the same time as his first one). Thanks for the info too! 3nodding

Welcome sybex. Nice to meet you.
As for your ritual tools problem, well, I've had the exact same thing, regarding candles and incense.
I think I've only actually LIT candles two or three times in the 6 years that I've been in the Craft. (after my sister burned a hole in the couch, mom's been a bit wary of either of us having candles... plus when I was in the dorms I couldn't have any) Just remember the Law of Conservation of Energy - Energy is neither crated nor destroyed, only changes form. So, think of lighting candles as making visible the energy that is already there. That's all you're doing with a flame... making it visible. As long as you realize the energy is still there, the flame does not need to be. In fact, neither does the candle... for awhile at college I had to use other symbols for fire due to strict no-candle rules in my first year dorm. Pumice and lava rock work well.
As for incense... I still haven't used it. In fact only today did I find a scent that wasn't overpowering (I've always been sensitive to scented things... incense, soap, candles, lotion, etc). A ribbon or a feather is a perfectly good substitute for air if needed.

Hm... but it's still sorta hard for me to imagine the energy... so that might not work so well... but it's a good idea. I'll try something else next time, so I won't have to use fire at all.
Wow, that bites that you're sensitive to all that. sad I'll try a feather too, though warming water until it starts to bubble then dumping a few light-scented spices/plants/seasonings worked this first time... you might try that! It isn't too overpowering if you don't use that much spice (but you should never, under any circumstances, taste the water you put the spice in. Urgh... bad... bad... idea...).

I have an odd feeling that you did taste the water. It's kind of like the urge to eat the baking chocolate just because you think it's suppose to taste good. If you have a really had time imagining a flame without one you might want to try to use a different form of light. A flashlight or something that glows like thoses stars everyone use to have on their ceilings.

Name- Tina Religion- Right now I am not so sure. I have been Christian, I have read half the Bible, but I have never really believed it either. So I went into this Wiccan store and I realized that it was in those types of places where I felt right, and the Wiccan religion is one that matches most of my beliefs and principles. So I will probably convert, but I want to study it first, see if it is for me. Practice Time- I have been trying different things for... two weeks Anything Else- I am usually pretty quick to pick things up, but if somebody would volunteer to teach me a bit, through PMs or other methods, I would be very grateful. Thanks! Also: I have a book called Stone, Mineral, and Metal Magic. I forgot the author, and I left the book in my school locker ( gonk ) But it says that if you charge the stone correctly, a necklace can be better when using stones because it is closer to the heart and head than the hand and you won't lose it as easily as an earring. Which is good because I just lost my favorite stone yesterday in my house! It was an Apache Tear and I was working with it a lot... I haven't worked anywhere near as much on my other stones....

Welcome welcome my new friend. Ivy's right about how we respond to questions here lol. If you post something you want to know, many will respond for pages lol. Look for the topic you want to ask a question on before posting and new one though, when we post we do post a lot so your question might already be answered in there. If you really need help you can PM someone, I'm sure they would be willing to answer a question. For anything else just have fun here, and post often. We're all pretty nice. 3nodding
