The flowers each had their own page, their diagrams labelled meticulously with a couple of notes at the bottom as to what the flower's scent was and other such similar information.
Only one of them had anything on the other side of the diagram, and this particular set of notes had a very different quality to them...

Two leaves, crushed into a tea and mixed with boiling water ought to make the patient only ill.
To test this tonight and write down symptoms throughout.

To the back of the journal, on the second to last page - the previous ones were blank, with blooms depicted before those - were the last of his thoughts. Clearly written after the burning of his other admissions.

The beauties of the village.
One has the same beautiful innocence of Terry, yet the Molten Silver one - what else could one call him with those furious eyes and that flowing hair? - suspects me.
He has reason, my dreams have returned, featuring both of them.
Mayhap he saw the hunger on my face - or in my eyes? I have hidden it successfully I think, but that one has a lot of perception.
Part of me whimpers against the breaking of this precarious control.
Yet the other just awaits the inevitable whilst licking lips...
Preferrably theirs.

There the journal ends, no more atrocities committed to paper as evidence...

It took the fae a minute to figure it out. Then he crowed happily. He was testing poison on himself to use on children- most likely, Adrian, or Patrick. So Patrick only upped the dosage to a fatal level, but it wouldn't have killed him had the a*****e not been testing it for... ick.

Patrick has got to see this.

What was once one set of problems...

Patrick was still feeding his pets, playing with them as he did so since they did not stay still. Finally he got them all eating from their bowls - he'd made them himself, careful not to let the wooden dishes give his babies splinters - which left him with his melancholy thoughts.

Will Taran let me keep them? What about Keegan? They might irritate him, and I understand that, but were he to hurt them or roast them-!
I'd kill him, or at least be sorely tempted to try. They have claws, but they are young ones! Young ones means protection for them.

... Hope Taranieth doesn't mind that I fell asleep on him yesterday, I didn't mean to...
Does he really believe me? How can he, when even I don't know?! If he doesn't-!
If he doesn't then I'm just another horrid, lying, delusional, paranoid human-!

I'll tell him I had it all worked out. I couldn't stay here with my mother nagging and breaking down my common sense...

Somehow Fudge and the kittens sensed his sadness together and, as one, pounced on him to topple him to the ground, licking and purring all over him as he giggled and groaned from the minor head bump...

... has now become several clusters of troublesome thoughts.

((If Taran could find him like that...??))

Taranieth ran back, hoping the boy was still with the kittens. He was, rolling around on the ground as all of them attacked him together.

Taranieth waited a moment, then coughed to attract Patrick's attention. "I think you ought to know that you are not really a murderer. Here. Read it." Taranieth said, passing him the notebook.

The young man looked up from the floor, blinking slowly at Master Taranieth. Then his eyes focused on the notebook, instantly recognising it and recoiling.
"Can't read - that! It gave me nightmares for years - I even became convinced - petrified - I'd turn out like him-!"
Patrick choked, then immediately sent the animals flying as he lurched to his knees to dry heave, skin pale and trembly again.

"You'll have to take my word for it then- yes, your hunch was correct, and no, he did not die by your hands. He was testing poison already- what you gave him might have made him sick but certainly wouldn't have killed him had he not already been taking it, testing to see if he could make boys sick. Young boys." Taranieth said grimly. "Your doctor told me not to destroy it until you'd seen it. I'll have it around, out of sight, until you feel up to it."

He placed the book in a pocket.

"Oh, and about your fears... I think you're past the point where they're possible. You still like Adrian, correct? He is hardly a child."

"I...realised that...several years ago. Along with...the likelihood that I..would always be alone...without children." he whispered, slowly turning to look at Taranieth with eyes that glistened.

"I know I'll lie, or mess up what we have - I won't be able to ask you something, tell you something for some reason and - then you'll get angry and not understand.
Worse, I won't even be able to blame you for not understanding sometimes."

His voice changed, becoming steely even as a couple of tears fell from each of his eyes. "The one thing I need you to remember, even if I can't say 'I love you' yet, is this:
You are giving me everything I wanted."

His fists clenched against his knees but he did not notice or glance away from Taran.

"I did not think I could sleep with a woman, not even Giselle who would have no inclination to grope me in any way.
The only woman I can be friends with without watching extra carefully to make sure she does not 'like' me.
If I moved to another village, I would still not want to marry and the mothers would suspect me of being what he was.

Nor could I have had a lover - men would take it as an insult, no doubt..."

Patrick shrugged, slumping.
"You are my only hope for anything resembling happiness, please never forget that. No matter what lies I tell for unfathomable reasons..."

I love you, you love me...

Taranieth smiled. "I fully intend to get you to fall in love with me." he said, and then took a more serious tone. "But you do have one flaw... you are eternally expecting the worst of yourself. You took away a person who might have hurt your best friend and love, and you beat yourself up over how you managed it. You attracted the attention of a fae and you think you are going to lose it over some trivial human nonsense. I just pretty well forgave you for murder back there, I find it hard to think of anything you could possibly do that would make me angry for long. Stop. Worrying. Honestly, it's like you expect to lie to me."

Then he looked around at the kittens. "Kee would love these. Like little dragons." he said with a smile. He did not mention that he already knew Patrick wanted to take them with him.

Patrick bit his lip, unsure of why he felt so certain that he would somehow disappoint Taranieth in the future. But the feeling refused to leave, so he instead banished it to the far corner of his mind as he turned to watch Master Taran with the kittens and puppy.

Snowy pawed at the Faery's leg to indicate that he had to make a lap, since the young cat wanted a seat on it, and Briar had already begun to climb -
The young man bounded to his feet to gently catch the kitten in his hands so that she couldn't finish her ascent and fall off of the rickety piece of furniture.

"Please tell me you'll work out what isn't safe when you're older, Briar, because I don't want you hurting yourself..." he muttered, smiling as she 'tried' to bite him in a display of irritation at being prevented from her adventure, her little paw - that had a scar from a rose thorn that had cut deep - batting towards his face.

Patrick turned to see what Taran was doing as he sat himself on the floor. Fudge was jumping to try and reach the Fae's skin to lick it, whilst Thorn claimed Patrick's lap with a purr.

Taranieth, with the sort of elegance only being born to a community that valued grace as almost the most important of their accomplishments, slid to his knees, and held a hand out for the puppy, who promptly decided that that swinging lock of hair was a toy, and latched on eagerly. Taranieth laughed, and tried to push it away. No such luck. He smiled. "You had better learn to stop biting before your jaws get stronger." he said, tapping it reprovingly on the nose.

The puppy whined, but did not let go.

"We'll have to work on that."
Taranieth said with a smile.

((Teehee. I got the puppy to do what a puppy did to me once. it was adorable, the thing was so tiny that I could barely feel it even though it was hanging off a lock of my hair. ))

Patrick felt a wide grin beginning to stretch his mouth a moment before he giggled. "That is too adorable for words! But Fudge responds better to distraction - if you really want him off of you, then I can go get another toy or some food?"

He glanced down to Thorn, whose claws were pressing into his leg as though he understood Patrick's words. Thorn stared back, giving the impression that he knew exactly what the young human had suggested and was protesting strongly against it.

Patrick sighed, then stroked underneath Thorn's chin to pacify him a little. "Second thought, I think it might work better if you were to rub Fudge's tummy with one hand and catch her with the other...?
I think I'm supposed to stay seated for a while and besides, Snowy definitely seems to want to curl up on yourr knees."

He paused with a small frown, eyes glancing everywhere to find Briar as he spoke. "Taran... would you and Keegan like - mind -" The words broke off until he simply blurted the question:
"Can they come and live with us or will Keegan hate to have them around? I know that I will spend some serious time gently persuading all of them that I will be the one to sit on your lap, because I feel a little jealous of Snowy right now, but... I really would prefer to take them all home with us and they can - will be able to - hunt for themselves most of the time..."

Taranieth smiled. "If you want to be on my lap, just get over here. Snowy can make space or sit on yours." he said, smiling at the puppy. "And don't worry. It doesn't hurt- yet. It's just something that he had better not make a habit because it will when he isn't a feather-light ball of adorable."

He looked around. "I think the only possible issue would be that the idiot dragon would bring home the bacon... or rather, the mice." he said. "He likes cats, and he probably won't care too much about the dog once he teaches it that it's dumb to chase a dragon around. Nothing dangerous, just a n** here or there. Dogs figure out pretty quickly what they can and can't attack."

Then he looked at Patrick, who looked cuter than every animal in the room put together. "Oh, and they might get jealous of you. Even with all these furry bundles of cute around I can't tear my eyes off you."

Split into two opposing halves...

Patrick picked up Thorn, wrapping him gently into the crook of his arm and scooting over to Taran. He then simply sat beside him, his head leaning on the Faery's shoulder contentedly even as he replaced Thorn into his lap with more apologetic stroking that relaxed the grudging kitten.
"I think I can compromise for now, but at some point I will usher them all off of you."

He paused, then blinked. "Taran... the puppy is called Fudge and - maybe we should have introductions? Just so you know their names?"

The moment he registered Taranieth's comments about Keegan, he chuckled. "So we'd have four sets of mice and one of any bones possible? Would they be live mice or just ready-to-eat food?
But as to Fudge... she'll probably just want to play with him, like she is with your hair - though not for too much longer since she'll be too heavy."

Patrick blinked up at Taran as he blushed brightly. "They might, but - but since we love them, it'll be fine, right? I mean everyone will have a favourite, so it won't matter if you think I'm - cute - because we'll make sure to hug them even if we don't give them ourr full attention.
Right?"
He ended softly, the blush deepening as he'd babbled a little.

... with no idea how to reconcile them entirely.

Taranieth giggled happily and threw Patrick a devilish grin. "Yes, darling, you'll always be my favorite puppy." he said, scratching Patrick lightly on the head. "I'm sure Keegan will be happy to bring you some mouse to eat as well."

He smiled at Fudge. "Keegan will probably adjust what he brings to what they're capable of taking. It might not be the most pleasant of sights so I think it might be good to build something outside..."

Patrick nodded, smiling as he leant into the head scratch. "Outside might work, but still... I'd like it if they could sleep on the bed when they wanted to - uh - unless we were doing something, I-I mean."

His blush had, incredibly, worsened as he stammered over the explanation. But he attempted to clear his throat as a soft grin took over. "I will gracefully step down from the pedestal of 'cutest being in the house' when our babies arrive, though: babies are infinitely more adorable!"
