"Timing is key to a perfectly timed attack..." XXXXXX Gage nodded at the man as he mentioned getting used to the mist. 'Looks like I have to anyways...' He thought as the man went over to the bin. He gave the man an odd eye as he pulled a vest out of the bin. 'A vest? for what... I'm not chuunin yet.' He thought as Kaizen tossed the vest his way. Gage reached out with one hand to grab it and quickly realized why Kaizen grabbed the vest. When it reached Gage's hand, the only thing he could do was let it sink to the ground with a light thud. 'I wasn't ready for that...' He thought as he put both hands on the vest and pulled it over his head. He pulled it down and strapped the sides and then jumped a few times. 'It's not too bad...' He thought as he tried to get used to the extra weight. Once he finished, He listened to Kaizen brief him on his mission. "Got it. Nikko's... Looks like I'll be following my nose... Be back soon." Gage said before running out the door. He made it outside and stopped. 'I'll need a few sticks...' He thought as he pulled out a kunai and walked forward. Gage got lucky and found a tree not long after. He hoped up, cut off three branches and was down in less then 10 seconds. A little slow, but the weight of the vest was getting to him. He raised his head and took a wiff of the air. "That way..." He said turning towards the beach and ran off. [Ramen Mission - 1/7 - START] XXX "The problem is, how long can you wait?" Gage ran on into the forest keeping an eye on the ground and in front of him. It wasn't long before he could see the building in the distance getting closer. Gage could feel the full extent of darkness and he knew it was getting pretty late. He managed to make it to the facility and stopped. He pulled the kunai out with his right hand and cut the wires around the bowl before returning his kunai to his hip and grabbing the bowl with his right hand and walking through the door. As he walked in he noticed that he hadn't seen the big Training Facility sign in front of the place.
Gage walked slowly over to Kaizen. He was running solely off of determination. He didn't want to spill a drop. He looked at the bowl one more time to make sure. It looked like it hadn't moved. Gage smiled lightly to himself, knowing that he had done well and hoped Kaizen thought the same.
As he made it to Kaizen he simply handed the man the bowl before pulling out his kunai and popping off all the wire connecting him to the sticks. As the sticks hit the floor it took a full ten seconds for feeling to return to Gage's arm. He opened and closed his hand a few times to regain feeling before trying to tug off the vest. "Darn it..." He said ou tloud as he couldn't get enough strength to pull it off. Gage simply walked to the wall, leaned against it, and before long sunk down into a sitting position. 'All for a bowl of ramen...' He thought as he felt himself getting light headed. His sight began to come and go. He did the only thing he knew to. He punched himself in the face, the pain wasn't there, he was numb, but it did keep him from falling unconscious. He tried to keep his eyes open as he waited for Kaizen's verdict. His face shown signs of physical strain, his body looked completely limp as he sat there. "All for a bowl of ramen..." He said out loud...

"We are the culmination of every choice we have ever made..."After Gage had left, Kai decided that he would simply take a short nap while he waited for the genin to return, thinking to himself, I can always just take him with me to get the scrolls, besides I forgot to ask which katon techniques he still needed to learn. Leaning against one of the walls of the large training room, Kai let out a satisfied sigh as he crossed his arms in front of his chest and closed his eyes.
Before he'd even gotten the chance to dream, Kaizen heard the sound of a door opening followed by labored breathing. Opening his eyes, Kai smiled at the sight of a very clearly fatigued Gage as he made his way towards him, steaming bowl of ramen in hand. Rising to his feet, Kai reached out to take the bowl from the boy, lifting a quizzical eyebrow at the self-made support the he had made to keep his arm steady. Well he's certainly doesn't lack ingenuity..., he thought as Gage let the stick fall to the floor after handing Kaizen the bowl. Watching silently as Gage made his way towards the wall he had been leaning against himself only moments before, the white-eyed chuunin chuckled lightly as the lad collapsed to the ground.
Looking down at the bowl for a moment, Kai simply nodded before walking over and setting the bowl down next to Gage. "You did well to make it back without spilling a single drop by the looks of it, but unfortunately you have still failed. You see, I said that you were to bring it back without losing a single drop of ramen, but if you'll look at the bowl you will notice that the ramen does not quite reach the line, though I know for a fact that Nikko filled it. You failed for the same reason I and all of my squad mates failed... evaporation. No matter what, that steaming bowl of ramen was bound to lose a bit of water."Placing a hand on the youth's head, Kai tousled his hair slightly before saying in a playful tone, "Don't worry, you'll still get credit for the mission as well as pay. You can even have the ramen too! First though, you must answer me this. As I'm sure you can tell by now, this was a test, but do you know what the lesson is?""... but sometimes, the right choice isn't always clear."

Gage watched Kaizen nod as best he could. His vision was blurred by the sudden out pour of idle sweat. Mentally, Gage was stable. He surprised himself with his own steel will, but his body on the other hand. He had pushed his limits beyond anything he'd done before. 'All for some ramen...' He thought as Kaizen walked towards him and laid the bowl down next to Gage.
Gage smiled weakly as Kaizen said he did well. It soon faded away, thought, because as soon as the conjunction 'but' came out of someone's mouth, something was wrong. He heard Kaizen say he failed and his heart sunk. There was no telling how long it would take for the strain of Gage's body to subside. His legs and right arm where feeling fine, but the rest of his body was numb. 'Go figure the parts I do use don't hurt...' He thought as he listened quietly to Kaizen as he told him why he failed.
"Evaporation..." Gage said quietly as Kaizen told him why he'd fail. 'Test of Knowledge not Skill...' Gage thought as Kaizen came over and tousled his hair. He listened as Kazien spoke, straightening out his hair with his hand. Then out of no where most of the pain subsided. Gage made an attempt to stand, but failed on the first attempt, landing him back on his haunches. The second time, however, he managed to get up with little struggle. He then managed to tug off the training vest, with much struggle, before looking Kaizen in the eye. "This lesson, at a glance. Would have seem to be a test of Skill, but if careful observations would have been made, one would have known this to be a test of Knowledge. Matsuya tested my skills earlier, it would only make since that you'd test my knowledge..." Gage said with a frown. "Once again proving that I'm not as smart as I thought I was." He said with a small laugh. 'I'll get over it...' He thought as he wiped some sweat from his brow. He hadn't noticed it, but his legs where still a little wobbly from earlier. Although he couldn't feel a thing, Gage knew that trying to preform Taijutsu of any kind would land him in the hospital. He just hoped that Kaizen thought the same.

(Sorry for the rather long wait, i just got back from a trip, and I had intended to bring my laptop with me, but of course I went and forgot to put it in the car >.< ) Kaizen Minoru 改善 山崎實 Lotus of the Mist Weapon Specialist | Speed | Gobi Host | Chakra Control | Dance of the Thunder God
"We are the culmination of every choice we have ever made..."Listening to the genin's answer to his question, Kai lifted his hand to cup his chin, a thoughtful expression on his face, before saying, "Hmmm, I suppose in a sense it is more of a test of knowledge than skill, yes, but the real purpose of this test is to teach you a lesson that every shinobi must come to learn. There comes a time in every shinobi's life where they will be given a mission that is impossible to complete, whether it is simply beyond their skills or the ability of anyone, but as a shinobi it is our duty to succeed... or die trying." Waiting a moment for his words to sink in, Kai's thoughts wandered to his battle with the Abomination Ghaniri, who had raised an army of the dead to slaughter the people of water country. Kai had nearly died because he was too stubborn and too fearful to use the power of the beast sealed within him, and was saved only by the intervention of the Mizukage. It had been a sobering lesson to say the least.
Snapping out of his brief reverie, Kai smiled at Gage before saying, "hopefully that day will be many years from now for you, but always remember this lesson. Now go ahead and eat that bowl of ramen while you tell me what Katon jutsus you still need to learn, I think you've earned a short rest before we continue."
Kaizen glanced to the vest laying at the boys feet, his lips curling into an amused smile. He would let Gage take a short break from wearing it, but he could already imagine the boy's expression when Kai told him to put it back on. He no longer wore the vest that LT had given him, but hidden under his wide pants were his own training weights, 25 pounds around each ankle, and the bracers he wore around his wrists were each an additional 25 pounds. A necessity for students of Butoukai Sono Raijin."... but sometimes, the right choice isn't always clear."

(Not the vest, again... lol gonk )
Gage listened quietly as Kaizen responded to his answer. He was partially right and partially wrong. 'Figures...' He thought to himself as everything went silent. Gage's eyes wandered to the floor as he saw his left leg quiver. He'd over exerted himself and signs where showing. He wouldn't give up now, though. He had just started training here in the Mist and he didn't want to make a bad impression on the first day. He was going to train as long as he could stand on his two feet.
Kai finally broke the silence, continuing on with his lecture. Gage had nearly forgot about the ramen until Kai and mentioned it. "Oh right..." He said sitting down in a traditional fashion. He picked up the ramen in both hands before looking at Kaizen. "Let's see..." He said trying to remember what he still had to learn. He picked the bowl up to his lips and took a long sip out of the warm broth. 'Shrimp... Perfect...' He thought as he removed the bowl from his lips. "If I remember right I still need to learn Ichi, Shuriken no Jutsu, Ni, Hoteri Ougigata no Jutsu, and Hi Shinten no Jutsu..." He said with a light laugh. He took another drag from his bowl of ramen before adding, "I never was good with learning the small stuff, that's why I went straight into learning the Flaming Muay-Thai." Gage reminisced for a moment, remembering the all the work he had gone through to learn that Taijutsu. He remembered how Death Spank had almost burnt himself to death, trying to overdo the jutsu. Gage smiled to himself as he finished his ramen, then stood once more. He felt a little better now. He hadn't realized how hungry he was, not having eaten a decent meal in a couple of days probably didn't help either. All in all, Gage was in a slightly better physical shape then he was only moments before.

"We are the culmination of every choice we have ever made..."While Gage listed off the techniques he still needed to learn, Kaizen lifted his gaze towards the ceiling as he crossed his arms, eyes distant as he did some quick mental math. I haven't learned any of the basic Katon techniques, it'll be a lot of cash, but... Letting out a sigh, he settled his empty gaze on Gage before pointing towards the vest still lying on the ground and saying with a twisted grin, "You're going to need that for the next exercise for today. And tell me, do you walk the path of the warrior, or blade hidden in the dark?""... but sometimes, the right choice isn't always clear."

Gage waited quietly as Kaizen thought about something for a moment. He began to finish the noddles left in the bowl as Kai began speaking. Kaizen pointed towards the training vest as Gage was in mid-swallow. 'NO WAY!!!' Gage thought as he choked on the noddles he was slurping and dropped the bowl of ramen. Even though it was almost finished it did leave a small mess. Gage swallowed and stood up. He met Kaizen's twisted grin with a concerned face. "Please tell me your joking..." He said at last.
He waited for Kaizen to answer him, but instead he posed another question for Gage to answer. He gave the man a weird look, but decided that he wasn't joking so he walked over to the vest and put it on reluctantly. "Shadows and Darkness are my domain, though I can play the role of a warrior if need be..." He said answering the question. He wasn't sure what was meant by it, but he knew himself to be an assassin.
"Oh and how long do I have to wear this thing, before switching to something more proper, I guess is a good word..." He asked Kaizen as he waited for what ever TORTURE was planned next.
((I thought it would be funny to choke on some noddles. lol))

"We are the culmination of every choice we have ever made..."Chuckling at the genin's shocked expression, Kaizen simply waited in silence, a small grin curling his lips, until Gage walked over to the vest, shrugged it on and gave him his answer. "Just as I had to, you will have to choose which path to follow. I chose the path of the Warrior, and I can teach you these things. If it is a Hunter you want to be, I can only help you train in the basics. Either way, you'll need to grow accustomed to the extra weight around your core before you begin to branch out. So, we're going for a jog." His face a mask of calm, Kai began to run in place, letting his legs warm up a bit as he quickly said, "You're goal is to follow me, I'll be trying to move at a brisk pace, so do try and keep up." Lifting a hand up, Kaizen flashed a grin and a small wave at Gage before darting off. To Kaizen he felt as if he were moving at a fairly relaxed pace, moving a little slower than your average chuunin, to give the boy a chance to keep up. Dashing through the doors, Kaizen's white hair billowed wildly in the wind as he launched himself up towards the forest canopy, landing and stopping on a branch suddenly as a thought occurred to him. Turning to face the door, Kaizen knelt down to rest his arms on his knees as he waited for Gage to arrive on the scene. "... but sometimes, the right choice isn't always clear."

Gage nodded as Kaizen spoke. The training vest had worn heavy on him the first time, but after slipping it on again he realized that he was getting used to the weight. Kazien talked about a Warrior and a Hunter, a decision Gage would have to make in his life. 'I think I know the answer...' He thought for a moment as he pondered Kaizen's words.
Next thing Gage heard was that they where going for a jog. 'Oh great... I'm worn out and we're going run... Just my luck...' He thought as Kaizen left. Gage knew that a 'jog' for a chuunin meant full speed for a genin, but Gage would keep up, as long as his training vest didn't weigh him down.
He started after Kaizen, darting straight out of the door of the Training Facility into the Hazy Mist that was beginning to lighten up the more Gage was in it. When he made it outside, it took him a moment to adjust to the mist before locating Kaizen in a tree. Gage sighed and threw himself high into the air landing a bit loudly on the side of Kaizen and squatted down. "I'm going to have to get used to that..." He said out loud as he waited for Kaizen to do whatever he planned to do.

"We are the culmination of every choice we have ever made..."Watching with a quiet amusement as Gage ascended the tree, albeit without much grace, Kai asked the lad, "I take it you have not been trained in the tree/wall walking technique, correct? I think that it's time for you to learn this most valuable skill, so while we're jogging, I'm going to point to trees that I want you to walk up... well, actually I want you to run up them, but you get the idea. The trick to the technique is in keeping a steady stream of chakra flowing to your feet. Too little chakra, however, and your feet won't stick, too much chakra and you'll find yourself stuck in place. Balance is the key, in this, as it is in all things."And with that Kai let himself begin to fall backwards out of the tree, righting himself with a flip just before landing on the ground. Turning towards the direction of the Library, Kaizen took off at a brisk jog once more, occasionally looking over his shoulder to make sure Gage was still following."... but sometimes, the right choice isn't always clear." Gage let out a sigh as he squatted their next to Kai on the tree. There seemed to be hardly anything he had really learned while in Iwagakure. He listened as Kaizen explained to him his next objective. "Alright. Lead the way, then..." Gage said to Kai as the Chuunin jumped off the tree onto the ground.
Gage followed, with a less graceful jump and landing, but still landed on his feet. He started running after Kaizen. 'Jeez this vest is making me slow...' He thought, being used to keeping up with Chuunins for so long. As they ran, Gage noticed that his eyes had become a little more accustomed to the Mist. [Mist Eyes 5/10]

 Sora Ushio "Aku no Sora"
"High Perception"
Ushio Clan | Combo User | Ina Hassei Ryouken No Jutsu | Genin| Age Twelve "I love being the villain! Wanna know why?" The sound of a cricket set the whole field off. Four pronged ninja stars whizzing through the air and striking home hard was the next few sounds to occur before another silence. The swampy and misty like terrain was an interesting choice with threes and vines entangled together. The players in this 'game' were serious about it. Another shuriken whizzed by, followed by the sound of one leaping from tree branch to tree branch. The onslaught began. A wave of shuriken and kunai began falling like rain in the swampy area, and the air was filled with the smell and sound of iron and iron clashing against each other until all was silent once more. The clashing iron covered up the sounds of the cries of death, which were quite loud. In the silence, there again was moment.
One cry of pain lead to the sound of a snap, which then lead to more shurikens whizzing about and hitting their targets home, hard. This cycle continued until everything was done and the enemies finished off. And all of a sudden, the swampy area and kunais and shurikens in the trees fell to the ground and in the center was the one boy who was training in that mess, surrounded by training dummies who remained in one place. At first they appeared to be Kirigakure or some other village's Shinobi, but they lost that appearance and revealed themselves to be simple wooden training dummies on sticks which could move around the room, like a similar method to how bumper car cables are connected to the ceiling and able to move around the room. In addition to that, when hit in certain spots, red liquids would come out, or the dummy would be a human-like sound, as if it was actually reacting to pain. "I need more challenging opponents next time." Sora said as he removed the kunai from the training dummies forehead and dropped it on the ground. 'I suppose I should go find Mizukage-Sama now and set up a time that we can start the training.' The boy then left the room a mess, with kunai and shurikens everywhere and half-destroyed training posts.

Kaizen Minoru 改善 山崎實 Lotus of the Mist Weapon Specialist | Speed | Gobi Host | Chakra Control | Dance of the Thunder God
"We are the culmination of every choice we have ever made..."Walking down the well-worn dirt path leading towards Kiri's state of the art training facility, Kaizen read nurse Kozuki's note once more before taking one of the pills she had given him. According to the note he had enough to last him two weeks, though whether or not he would actually need a refill was not entirely clear. I certainly hope I won't, Kai thought to himself with a sigh, smacking his lips in a futile attempt to rid his mouth of the pill's after-taste.
Opening one of the facility's double doors, Kaizen shot the desk clerk a smile and a wave, earning himself a rueful smile from the pretty young woman, before heading down the hallway to find a private room to begin his training. Finding an unoccupied room, he slipped in and took a good look around. The room was huge, with training dummies lining one wall while a veritable arsenal lined the wall opposite them, and in the center was a lone pedestal with a small keypad. The pedestal could be used to transform the room to match a different setting using a combination of technology and powerful ninjutsu. For his purposes however, the sparsely furnished room would work fine as it was.
Reaching into the scroll case located on the back of his waist, Kaizen pulled out three scrolls, all of them filled with various Katon techniques for him to learn. Opening the one marked as academy level techniques, he read over the list until he found one that sounded useful. "Katon: Tanebi no Jutsu, that could have it's uses, all it takes is a small spark to make a large boom after all", Kai muttered to himself as he looked over the instructions on how to perform the technique. He set the scrolls down on the floor and then lifted his hand in front of his chest, placing his thumb and middle finger together. [1/3 Katon: Tanebi no Jutsu]
As he stood there, Kai's eyes began to change, a brilliant red seeping out of the center of his pale gaze, till the entirety of both eyes took on the color of flame. Forcing chakra to his hand, Kai could almost feel the heat building up between his two fingers. Releasing his chakra at the same time he snapped his fingers, a small spark formed at the point where his fingers had made contact. A good start, but it wouldn't do much good if he couldn't start the spark a bit further away.[2/3]
Starting again, Kai placed his thumb and middle-finger back together. Forcing chakra into his hand, he tried to think of how he could get the spark to start away from him, just releasing the chakra clearly doesn't work, perhaps I can manage to throw the chakra away from myself as I release it... With his new theory in mind, Kai let the chakra build up between his fingers as he drew back his hand as if preparing to throw something. "Katon: Tanebi no Jutsu!", he called out as he threw his arm forward and snapped his fingers. Much to his delight, a spark appeared in the air about ten feet away from where he was standing. Well that's one down. [3/3 Katon: Tanebi no Jutsu learned]"... but sometimes, the right choice isn't always clear."
