"Does it look like a cat?" she asked from around the piece, trying to picture this deer in her head. Then again, it came out with a fin, since most everything she saw had a fin. Maybe it looked more like a kelpie...

But a kelpie would never allow itself to get caught and eaten. It'd probably get a nibble out of you first. Or an entire chunk knowing the creature...

"There are other ways to eat it?" She began licking the corners of her mouth, looking all too much like a cat whilst preening. She licked her fingertip and looked up, brows furrowing a bit.

"There are lots of ways to eat things on land, aren't there?"

What was it with this girl and cats...? Yi Xian shook his head both in answer to her question and to try to get the thoughts from his head. With a smile he used his claws to take a piece off the jerky and nibbled on it.

"No, deer are not like cats. Not to look like and not in manner. Cats are too snobby... deer are... elegant. They move like the wind put into animal form. Most of them have soft brown fur, very short, not like mine. And when they're young they have spots on their bottoms. Short tails that are white, rather like cotton. They have cloven hooves, shiny black and spindly legs. Long graceful necks and they grow to be about..." He brought a hand up to his chest and waved it slightly. "About this big I think. Beautiful animals. Very tasty. A heck of a lot easier to bring down than a moose that's for sure."

The wolf smiled and took another bite of his jerky, chewing it thoughtfully as he tried to think of what else he could tell her. Food, though, was always a good start.

"There's plenty of ways to eat it, just like anything onland I suppose. Raw like I mentioned before, and this is dried jerky. That's when the hide is taken off and put into a smoke hut and salted. That way it keeps for longer." He tapped the stuff against his lips in thought and took another bite. "And then there's cooking it on a fire, and in a wood stove..."

Innocently he took an apple from his basket and deftly sliced it with his claws, offering her a piece of this new treat.

Odette's head fell to the other side like a curious little bird's, "If it's beautiful, how come you eat it?"

She sucked on her index finger and looked up, wondering if she should venture out and ask what a moose was too while she was at it. She was very good at twenty questions, you know - quite the nosy little mermaid! But something else caught her ear, and she removed her finger from her mouth to stare.

"Fire? It that like the red ocean?" she made a wave motion with her arm. "It's wild and really hot - I've only ever seen it once. Is that what fire is?" She looked both excited and wary. How on earth could one manage to tame the red ocean? That was truly a scary sight!

While taking the slice without much thought, she did a double take and pointed, "But you said you weren't a cat! Kalyca said cats have claws...and they are very sharp you know! Those could very well be claws! Cat claws!" She nibbled upon the corner of the apple slice, murmuring a brief word of enjoyment.

Yi Xian's ear twitched with slight irritance and he used his tail to swat water at her. "I am not a cat, I am a wolf. Stupid little felines aren't the only animals with claws you know. Canines have claws, birds have talons, even lizards have them to an extent."

He paused a moment to think of her comment of the red ocean and yawned quietly, raising a hand to his mouth and waving his fingers in front of his maw. "Red Ocean? Where in the world did you see something like that. The only fire I can think of being on water is... Greek fire."

She gave a nonchalant shrug and licked her finger, "Stop, stop! You're making my head hurt." Her lips puckered into a frown, a matching one creasing her forehead as her entire face pinched. What were all these things he spoke of? Ugh! Her hands rose up to knead her temple, looking all the part wounded by all this unfamiliar news.

Stopping her dramatics, she peeked out from beneath a small hand and suddenly leaned forward, slapping her hands down on the surface.

"Red ocean! Well, the top is red, the bottom is black. But it's like...like..." she threw her arms into the air and made a 'whoosh'ing noise, eyes widening marginally. "Like that! And it's only in a little bitty area...but enough to be scary."

Odette nodded before making the wave motion again, "If the black stuff gets on you, it's reeeally gross."

Yi Xian snickered and turned his face to try to avoid the splash a bit better. He was starting to get used to all the wetness and he only hoped that he didn't look like too much of a drowned rat in the process.

"Aww is so much knowledge hurting your tiny little brain shark-bait?" He teased with a wink. "If it makes you feel better though I don't understand wht you mean either. Maybe your description just doesn't work in my mind, I've never been too good at trying to piece foreign things together."

The wolf brought a hand to his chin, obviously deep in thought. "Could you take me to where you found this red ocean?"

"Harrumph! I could fight a shark if I wanted, so I'm not bait!" she protested, poising an arm as if to flex. Her face appeared determined, lips puckered, as if she were ready to face a Great White right here, right now. Ha! Bring it on!

'Course, she'd never seen a Great White up close, seeing as mermaids kept far from the creatures in the first place. But what would he know? A little fish tale never hurt anyone~

"Now who has a tiny little brain. My description was perfect," Odette replied airly, backing away and flipping beneath the surface with a flick of her tail. When she next resurfaced, she had put a considerable distance between the wolf and herself.

"Can you swim far? Or will I have to carry you?"

Yi Xian's eyes widened. Of course this thing would have to be out to sea, she was a mermaid after all. Taking a deep breath he glanced back at where he left his coat, boots and basket and hoped that no one would steal them while he was gone. He prepared himself to swim through the slightly chilly waters when a thought occured to him. Wasn't this how mermaids got their prey?

He shrugged the thought off and dove under water, keeping his eyes open, even though he couldn't see too well. When he surfaced he wasn't too far from Odette. At the very least he had his claws to protect him and the girl from sharks...

"How far is it? I'm not sure you could carry me that far, could you?"

Oh dear lord he's given her another chance to gloat...

She continued to drift backwards, a coy smile on her lips all the while. This would be fun to watch - seeing how far this land otter could go. She drifted beneath the surface and bubbled the water with her lips, wings flapping in and out almost mechanically, dragging her back.

"Not too far, seeing as it was caused by humans. Just a little out to sea," she half sang, before grinning at his question. Turning, she disappeared beneath the surface and slithered away, towards the crack she had used as and entrance. Surely he wouldn't need her assisstance here.

"Of course I could." She had once again broken the water, eyeing him from just before the exit. "Mermaids are very strong people!" Her head canted backwards, a smile upon her lips. Of course, little did she know, things were so much easier to carry when aided by water...

"This way, please~"

"Still and all." Yi Xian managed to say as he swam after her, "even if you are strong I think I'll managed to get out there on my own."

He began to wag his tail slightly and found that it was good to guide himself through the waters. He was starting to get used to the coolness sliding through his fur and shivered lightly even as he moved faster to keep himself warm. Hopefully this red ocean thing was an actual fire and he could steal some of it's warmth.

Her teeth flashed white and that was the last thing she did as she dove into the water fully, tail smacking the surface. She grabbed the wolf's ankle and tugged on it, letting go and twisting towards the crack in the wall in a flurry of blush-hued hair and emerald fin.

Her wings clung to her back and she shimmied through, tasting the salt of the water that drifted in from the other side. A smile brightened her features, bubbles issuing from her lips as she let out a squeal. Boy, how long had she been gone?

Without a second thought, she pushed through and piroutted through the murkier waters, feeling much more at ease within the waters of her birth. Yes, she liked salt water so much more than the lake that lacked it.

Odette turned and finally looked behind her, awaiting Yi Xian's arrival.

"Hurry up, slowpoke~"

When her hand locked around his ankle the first thought in his head was that he was about to be eaten and he readied himself to kick back at her. Luckily for both of them she darted away before he could reacte and he was left a bit stunned in her wake. With a deep breath he let himself sink into the water and slid through the crack after Odette to see just what was so special.

Although he wasn't one to go swimming often he could tell the difference between the lake and the salty ocean almost immedietly. There was a sort of boyancy difference that he found oddly reassuring. He looked around at the new surroundings, not finding them too much different from his perspective as a land dweller.

Her voice seemed just as clear, albeit softer, than it had above the surface.

"This is much better than an enclosed space of water!" she beamed, coiling and shooting off into the endless sea. She corkscrewed and turned sharply, making a wide arc in her return, stopping just behind the wolf.

"Come on, come on! It's further out!" Odette tugged at his hair impishly as she sing-songed, circling him like an eager child before swimming off again. It wasn't out in the middle of the sea, nor too close to shore - but it was near a port. The mermaid didn't know this and she had certainly never tried to find out more about the 'red ocean'. It was too hot to get near, too thick to the touch. Many a creature had died in its wake, and she refused to become one of them.

But from a distance it was indeed a queer sight to behold, and she was only too willing to share it with someone who had not shown heads or fins of any fear as of yet. She admired that, but to Hades' with anyone who dared imply it. Like she'd tell a two-legger they had a redeeming quality!

Lily sat at the bottem of the ocean wandering as she dwelled over her last love. It was horrible, him and her were perfect together....and then he just dumped her, and went to his ex. Lily was still overshocled about it, the water hid the tears that would form, but she knew it was more than time wnough to head to the air, see the sun. let the breeze tickle her skin. Her fair flowed gentally behind her, it's shades of red and magentas blanding perfectly. Now entering a strange water, a lake actually. She stopped, her eyes did show a sadness but she wasn't showing it in her exression. She bit her lip slightly looking around, the water was much shallower then she expected, and seeing a close rock on the shore, that was tilted just right for her to be able to sit on, as well as skim the waters top with her fin. Doing a dolphin jump, she swam to the rock, climbing up, and staring around at the scenery before her.

While wandering around boredly, Michael, who was wearing a black jacket that was covered in patches and pins over his usual shirt and vest, found himself facing a beautiful clear lake. He took a seat beneath one of the trees, who's leaves had almost all fallen off, and pulled his sketchbook from his bag.
