((Alright, lets finish this.))

Seeing Vincent and his pet dragon taking care of the the sorcerers with a little help from Petra. Kail'igen turns his attention to the warriors. Luc was valiantly holding one of them off while the other began to come at luc's pet as it rushed off after a sorcerer. As the Warrior came by Kail to try an get the little dragon kail held his foot out to trip him up. He the summoned forth his mighty fireball and split it between the two warriors.

*Lucifer's roll*

Petra Heals Luc for 10 Points.

The Sorceror's begin their dark incantations preparing to bring Vincent down. Vincent leaps forward with uncanny quickness, stunning Sorceror 2, interrupting the Spell. Sorceror 3 completes his incantation, blasting Vincent for 10 points.

The Warriors implacably advance, their new targets firmly set. Warrior 1 attacks Lucifer, striking for 4 points, then follows with a Smash for 5 more points. Warrior 2 advances on Luc, death in his eyes. Striking hard, he hits Luc powering through his defenses for 3 points. He finishes with a Smash for 5 more Special damage.

Luc once again attempts to Attack, relying on his Attack Stat alone. And once again, as he stands no chance of causing damage, the Attack is Unsuccessful, ruining the party's chances for Team Attack's. However his powered up defense easily reduces the incoming damage.

Lucifer Attacks Sorceror 2 biting fiercely for 3 points. He is struck hard by the fierce Bandit Warrior 1, but stubbornly refuses to go down, while it's master is still in danger.

Petra attempts to stun Sorceror 2 but fails. She then attacks Sorceror 3, dealing 1 point of damage. She also quickly heals Luc, before he takes damage for the round. Her Regeneration continues to heal her wounds, for 5 more points.

Vincent's timely stun is much appreciated, especially by himself. His powerful strike at Sorceror 2 receives a different type of appreciation, hitting hard for 14 points. The damage helps heal his wounds, as the Demonic Regeneration does it's work.

Kail attacks Warrior 1, in an attempt to assist a perceived team attack. His damage is negligible however, unable to pierce the Warrior's defense. The Fireball has no problem though, instantly slaying both warriors in a powerful burst of flames.

Petra regenerates 5 points.
The Demonic Sword takes it's payment. (-1 HP)
Vincent regenerates 3 points. (1 natural, 2 Demonic)

RPS_Admin
COMBAT
  • So long as you could damage someone with 0 Defense and no Combat Dice on your own, you get an attack. This means you either need at least one point of Attack, or some Combat Dice and use them for damage.
    • One way this can be very useful is to "plink" an enemy. When you plink an enemy, you attack them not for the purpose of doing damage, but rather to hold them off so heavier attackers can team up on another enemy. Even if you can't do any damage, never underestimate how helpful plinking an enemy can be for your party's damage output.

What you fail to realize, again, is that for an Attack to qualify as an attack, you must fall within the category highlighted above. Since Luc used his Combat Dice for Defense, he no longer had the ability to cause damage to the Warrior, as his Attack Stat of 2 is matched by the Warrior's Defense Stat of 2. If he had used his Combat Dice for Attack, the Warrior would have been considered "Held Off".
PostPosted: Tue Dec 11, 2007 7:04 pm

If I may interject for a second, Kail is correct. To succesfully "hold off" an opponent, they must have an attack hit them, though it doesn't matter if the attack does damage or not. An effect such as pounce, that stops an attack from occuring in the first place however, eould stop the team up from happening. For referance, Look up "Plinking" in the frequently asked questions.

As for the bolded section you pointed out, As long as Luc has any attack score, he could in fact still damage someone with 0 defense and no combat dice.

That line is not in referance to the current enemy at all. Its just stating that you have to either have points in attack, or use your dice for attack to have the ability to attack at all. Characters with no attack or combat dice can't attack.

Then it goes on to say that if you attack, regardless if it does damage or not, they are considered held off.

The end point is Luc does have an attack stat, thus he gets an attack. The person he attacked is considered held off. Bottom line.

(Just to let you know, that is why Gerbo has a single point in attack for that very reason!)

((But Luc can damage someone if they have 0 defense and no combat dice, Luc has 2 attack thus he gets an attack. What that rule refers to is someone who had 0 attack and no combat dice. They need to get plink to hold of a target then. Luc's attack still held off the target even if it didn't do damage.))

I admit, I do tend to bow to superior logic; however right now I don't think your it. If you can have FARGORE overrule my post, I will happily support it. But as I understand the rules, this is the way it actually works. We will go ahead and Pause this battle until you clarify the actual intent of what constitutes an "Attack".

*As a personal note, my wife currently agrees with you... mrgreen *

And, the ruling is in! Kowsauni, Amp of Death and my wife are correct; I now stand in the corner, wearing the cap. mrgreen

I will recalculate the battle post, and re post shortly. And thank you Kail for once again, correcting my errors. whee

And finally, I apologize for any inconvenience by misconception may have caused. emo

Lucifer Team Attacks Sorceror 2 biting fiercely for 17 points. He is struck hard by the fierce Bandit Warrior 1, but stubbornly refuses to go down, while it's master is still in danger.

Petra attempts to stun Sorceror 2 but fails. She then Team attacks Sorceror 3, dealing 9 point of damage. She also quickly heals Luc, before he takes damage for the round. Her Regeneration continues to heal her wounds, for 5 more points.

Demetry joins Petra in the Team attack on Sorceror 2, hitting first for 9 points, and finishing with a Smash for 5 more, killing the Sorceror off.

Vincent's timely stun is much appreciated, especially by himself. His powerful Team strike at Sorceror 2 receives a different type of appreciation, hitting hard for 17 points, slaying him. The damage helps heal his wounds, as the Demonic Regeneration does it's work.

Master Morty looks about at the bodies of the slain lying in grisly poses surrounding the wagons. "That was a close one, my guardians. Once again I thank the Gods that you answered my call for defenders. I doubt any other could have succeeded as well as you. Do we continue, or do you have any business you wish to accomplish first?"

Kail'igen surveys the scene with a look of mild disgust. So much death and for what. Kail'igen could never understand what motivated these kind of people to behave this way. All and all he was beginning to become quite dead to it all. As if constantly fending form bandits was the norm of every day life. Kail begins to gather the bandit's equipment and looks over his shoulder to speak to Master Morty. "Well there is the matter of repairing your damaged wagon, how much is that going to cost again?"
PostPosted: Wed Dec 12, 2007 11:48 am

Master Morty assesses the damaged wagon with a professional eye, then answers,"I believe 150 chips will cover it. I apologize again for the necessity, but I think your making the right choice. I've been thinking about what that man we first ran into at the beginning of our journey said; he mentioned Ali Baba and his Forty Thieves. If that was more than a clever affectation, we have dispatched thirty-three of them so far, by my reckoning. So I would think the last of them would be the worst of them, so we had better be prepared. And who knows what the leader may be capable of. I shudder to think of what has passed; but a terror grips me when I think about what may yet come."

" Well in that case do you have something we can use to heal our wounds in between battles?" Kail'igen looks around at his beleaguered yet resilient team. All of them were suffering injuries of some sort. Vincent had it the worst, with the blade constantly feeding off him it looked like he could collapse at any moment. Kail'igen marveled at how quickly Petra seemed to recover form her injuries. She truly was a powerful priest. Kail would have to find some way to express that to her. She had more strength then she realized. Kail then turns his attention back to the master merchant. "Fear not, Master Morty we will get through this." Kail hands him one of the freshly collected long swords to pay for the damages to the wagon.

((Can we update our stats with the cp we just earned in the town square, or do we have wait till the end of this quest for that to come into affect?))
PostPosted: Wed Dec 12, 2007 5:31 pm

Master Morty ponders a bit then says, "Well as I said at the beginning of this journey, I carry a complete supply of your standard adventuring supplies. So if you need a few potions, I can arrange it. And Vincent is already aware of his... options."

(You can buy any item available within the Item Shop, at the standard 20% mark up price.)

((And as far as your new CP, I will allow your team to decide for themselves. I was planning on awarding you all 3 CP for completing this Dungeon, with your current beginning Stats. If you choose to use your upgraded characters, this reward will be reduced to 2 CP, as a result of the change in difficulty for the final battle.))

((hmm I see, Id rather hold off on that then. An extra cp is worth a lot. so you are saying we are allowed to use potions outside of combat?))
