Heating and cooling doesnt really effect it, beyond the possible moisture build up. BUT the power outages can. If a telephone pole is struck there is a very good chance the router and or the cable modem took a strong enough hit to screw it over. It'll show when you call the cable company, they will record 100% signal reaching your house and your system will only be responding with about 20%.
Basically, just go to your cable ISP, bring the old modem get a new one. Then buy a new router, you'll be happy puppy instead of a sad panda.

And thusly I realize that I actually have a 4th character... my gaelic dude who I REALLY have to redo... but I can't remember his name... >.< Is that"What is your character doing" thread still up? That's the only place I have his name...
