"Sort of," Toby nodded, "It simulates interaction with different types of people in different circumstances. It's better to screw up there than in the field, though. Besides, going to fae means less chance of an accidentally 'fatal' reaction." Complete with air quotes.
"I have no idea," Toby admitted, "He could be anywhere in the building, but I--"
The door unlatched and swung open. "Ah, yes. I'd be willing to say he's home. Can we come in?" No shrieking meant 'probably yes' and so Toby entered the dimly-lit room. It was decorated in an old-fashioned way. Everything was meant to make Michael more comfortable in his room, save the addition of electricity. There was also a trap door in the ceiling in case he was feeling especially antisocial or overwhelmed.
"Hello. Can I help you?" Michael's voice asked from the dim. There was no body to respond to, though. Toby looked to Maia, expecting her to respond.

Simulates interaction, alright. Yay training modules! "It probably depends on the type of fae."
Michael's voice came out of the room. Invisible ghost, great. Maia stepped into the room. "I wondered if you'd be willing to tell me more about your job?"

A strange mist appeared first, starkly different than the sort of thing seen in 'professional ghost hunters' videos. It was thick. Almost solid. Then Michael emerged from it, albeit just from the waist up.
"Oh? I didn't think you were all too fond of me," he said with a smile. His eyes flashed black for just a moment. "Certainly. Feel free to turn the lights up. Sometimes I prefer oil." And, indeed, 2 oil lamps were lit in the windowless space. "Would you like to sit?" He gestured to a rather ornately-carved chair at one side of the room. Toby meanwhile turned the dimmers up and flooded the room with light. Michael threw no shadow.

"Let's give it another shot," Maia suggested. A new start with Michael was probably better than how she'd reacted towards him the first time she'd met him. She sat in the chair indicated.
"I'm thinking about becoming an ambassador."

"Oh?" Michael asked. He took the seat across from Maia and it dimpled as if he was fully formed, although he still faded away at the waist. "For who? Selkie? Fae in general?"
"Do you want me to go, Maia?" Toby asked. Michael looked to him curiously and then back to Maia. He didn't care either way.

"Far in general, I think," Maia said, and reached for Toby's hand, effectively answering his question. No, she'd really rather he stay. "Is it alright if He stays, Michael? He's been helping me too."

"Of course. I've worked with Toby plenty of times," Michael said with a smile. Toby smiled back. He rather liked the man, dead or not. When he needed to be carried long distances Toby often allowed for willful possession. The werewolf took up the seat beside Maia and settled in.
"So what is it your were curious about, hm?" the ghost asked finally.

"The job itself, for the most part. Lori told me they'd expect me to know a lot about the job when they interview me. Can you tell me more?" She gave Michael a smile. He wasn't nearly so frightening this time!

"In my case, any time a haunting has been made official or probable, they send me out to meet with the agents and see what I can find, and I work with any entity I find. Spirits, in my case. Souls. Demons. The dead. So for you I'd assume you'd be traveling with agents to fae hotspots like Breyer, or to assignments where the far are not interacting well with the agents themselves. You might be expected to investigate carefully or to interact and try to find some middle-ground. You may need to act as a middle-man between entities and agents as well," Michale explained. Toby nodded. Really, fae generally were not a problem, but having an actual fae with you always helped, even Lori.

Maia was quite glad she wasn't a ghost, she'd seen horror movie previews while in Oregon, and demons didn't sound like the friendliest spirits to deal with. Fae hotspots, really? Like Breyer! She'd wanted to go there since Dari had shown her pictures.
"Do they assign me an agent?" she asked. "Or will I work with several?" She was hoping to work with Toby, honestly.

"You'll have a choice, generally. There are quite a few agents I refuse to work with or who refuse to work with me for whatever reason," Michael said. Suddenly his lower half appeared. There was no warning or slow fade-in, he was just suddenly there, and he didn't acknowledge it at all. "If you want to know if you can exclusively work with your boyfriend, potentially 'yes.' They go on most of the big fae trips don't you?"
Toby nodded.
"Cases like yours don't require an ambassador. There was a whole team there, of course, but they don't throw a dozen men in black on a beach and expect nobody to notice."

Michael knew they were dating? Was it that obvious? "I didn't know that," she said, looking at Toby. So he and Dari went on the most fae trips anyway.
"Nah, I was easy to find," she said. "Do they send teams out on every mission?"

"It depends on the mission. When it comes to hauntings, no," Michael said, "I only had two agents and a tech lead to contend with. With the dragon, however, it was a team of thirty. It all depends."
Toby nodded. "We needed to get you out of there, and if you decided to transform and try to run, we needed people in the water to find you. When we found Dari, we had nearly fifty men and women on the case and working damage control."

"Lucky I didn't transform then," She'd been scared enough dealing with just the two agents. "So bigger missions get bigger teams," She nodded in understanding. "Well, I better get this guy back to work," She gestured to Toby. "Thank you, Michael. I'll come again if I have anymore questions!" She smiled at the ghost, standing.

"Exactly," Michael said, and then added a polite nod, "Any time. Just be sure to ring the bell." He didn't take well to people barging in. That was why he tried to remember to lock the door. He stood and offered his hand to Maia for a shake and Toby stood. Ugh. HR reports.
