The jewelry shop was only a few doors down from the glass shop - Earendil had to wonder at the wisdom of putting the fragile shops so near the field where the children were kicking a ball so hard - and so of course it didn't take long to reach it. Inside, it was much like the glass shop - shelves and shelves of jewelry, mostly displayed in the windows so that they would catch the sunlight (and hopefully someone's eye), and the counter at the back in the only place where the sun's rays didn't quite reach.
The shop keeper in here was a man, his golden hair in a braid that reached to the point just between his shoulder blades, dressed in fine silks.
"Welcome," he said, bowing low as the group entered the shop. "Princess Wren, it has been a long time since you have graced our humble shop with your presence."
Wren smiled softly and touched him gently on the shoulder, giving him permission to rise. "For that, I must apologize," she replied. "I have not left the palace as often of late."

Miyuki looked around wide eyed, no matter how many ones she had been she always like coming into one. Not that she wanted one for herself, but she liked seeing all the designs and depending if the jeweler in question, sometimes when there were a lot of jewelery out with lots of stones the floor would be speckled in tiny rainbows.
Here it seemed even more so there was a lot of emphasis on ivy, leaves and flowers. There was even bronze, aged to look like branches and woody vines. It was just all so pretty! She was already leaning over, almost ready to let go and scurry over to the nearest shelf.

The jeweler eyed Miyuki warily. "Be careful, child," he cautioned her. "If you break anything in here, you must pay for it."
Wren held up one hand. "She will be fine, I'm certain," she told the man firmly. "Let her look. She has seen many jewelers, and I'm sure she would like to see what your work is like and how it compares to them."
The man stood up strait, his chest puffed out proudly. It seemed he had quite the ego, and was possibly offended that Wren had implied that there might be others whose work was better than his.

Miyuki smiled innocently before putting her hands behind her back just as her mommy had showed her all those months ago when they had visited the jewler in the Southland. Then she slowly went to a shelf full of pretty necklaces to look at them, her tails curling around her as if trying to get out of the way as well.
"Shall we take a look?" Lin asked Earendil quietly.
She trusted Miyuki to be on her own, though she wasn't sure what to make of the shop owner. It was hard to tell if his comments was because she was still a child or because Miyuki was different. Though she was willing to think it was because Miyuki was young.

Earendil smiled at Lin and put one hand gently to her back so that they could meander together through the shop, looking at the jewelry. Though the quality of the jewelry was indeed impressive, he personally thought that Aranhil's work was better. He didn't let pride get in his way, and his work showed the beauty of his heart.
At least, that was what Earendil thought.

Miyuki though, wasn't thinking at all what her father was thinking. While she could see the quality was certainly there, after all she had grown up looking through all sorts of shops, she was more interested in the style. All places she thought had different styles.
Elves always looked to nature, while the humans did too, but she found elves liked to make things look like plants and put a great deal of detail into their animals. It wasn't just a mimicry of the shape or look.
She also found here, it was very true, because there was a lot of love for bronze, shaped metal and inlays. Some of the pieces were, what she would imagine jewel plants would look like if such things existed. Her eyes wandered over to a shelf that had what looked like woven vines of bronze, silver or gold and she noticed separately there were charms that could be hooked onto those vines. It occurred to her they were charm bracelets but they looked different than the ones in Gaia.
Gaia of course had chains, not things that looked like vines.
"That's new..." she murmured thoughtfully making a mental note of it.

Earendil chuckled softly, overhearing Miyuki's comment. "I hope she's not getting any ideas," he grinned. "She still hasn't earned that ear clasp she wanted so badly from Amon Darthir."
It was safely tucked away, ready for the day when she would earn it, but he wasn't sure if she was aware of that fact. He had promised her, though, and he would keep his promise. When she fulfilled her half of the bargain, of course. She had to keep working at her staff. She was getting closer.

"I don't know...." Lin murmured softly, "It's sometimes hard to tell what she's thinking beyond shiny."
And Lin knew that her daughter thought of other things, but it was hard to tell. Just as it was equally hard to tell what suited Miyuki. Miyuki was in some ways more like Lin's mother, but not at the same time.
"Does she even remember about that?"
That was the other thing between growths unlike Lin who grew fast and already had the reason of a small child when she was born, Miyuki didn't and so didn't remember as much as she grew.

Earendil stopped to think about that. He wasn't sure. In fact, he had no idea. He hadn't mentioned it in a long time, and neither had Miyuki. Perhaps she would need a reminder ... and perhaps it was time to give it to her, after another lesson or two.
"Perhaps we should remind her later," he suggested, feeling a bit sheepish.

Lin giggled at that, "Yes... yes it would be wise, that or you could just wait until she's completed another lesson or two. She's doing quite well for not remembering about that. It'll be a surprise, and a slight reminder."
If Miyuki needed need to be bribe then don't, she was doing well. Perhaps not as well as Lin would like, but she knew her daughter was different from her so that was fine. At least it was clear Miyuki could defend herself better with a staff than with a sword.

Earendil nodded.
"Perhaps we should let Alassëa decide when Miyuki is deserving of a reward," he mused. "She would know better than you or I, especially since she is Miyuki's teacher. What do you think?"
It wouldn't be as random then, he felt.

"That's an excellent idea," Lin nodded, "And it would mean more if Alassea had a say in it."
After all, with the exception of making sure Miyuki kept up with her katas, Lin had very little say over Miyuki's training unlike when the girl was younger. It simply seem that teaching one's child how to fight just didn't work all that well.

Earendil smiled down at Lin. "Then we can talk to her about it tonight, give her a heads up, so that when she thinks Miyuki has earned it she can make the decision and let us know. Yes?"
Though personally he still didn't quite understand why Miyuki was so reluctant to use weapons, he was proud of the fact that she was at least putting in an effort now. Not as much effort as she could, he was certain, but some, and that was much better than when they had tried to teach her to use a blade.

Lin nodded, "That would be for the best, she would know better. She probably by now has a better gauge than we do. The martial arts and nearly everything associated with it has come naturally to us I think. There hasn't been a weapon yet either of us have felt was awkward or too difficult. So I don't think we're the best judges with Miyuki."
Of course, Lin had a wide range of family members of all sort of skill levels. The only person who had her wide range of martial knowledge was Triton, though in skill in certain areas it was still her father and Vincent who could give her a run for her money.
Especially Vincent...

"Agreed," Earendil nodded.
He knew that Alassëa would judge Miyuki for her progress, whereas he himself - as much as it bothered him - he would expect her to do more and more before earning the ear clasp. He had been raised with intense training, and there had never been any question of not reaching a certain point. To him, the idea that someone could make a good effort and still not reach an expert level was foreign. It had never been an option. It was hard for him not to push Miyuki for that.
One of the reasons why it was best he not be her trainer.
He watched Miyuki as she looked around. He himself was not really interested in the jewelry here, but he wouldn't rush Miyuki.
