Keegan was too concerned with the heavy hits Tierra was suffering at the hands of the Primeape to notice that Levi had managed to defeat the Cubone, and that the girl had just challenged the already tired Mudkip to another battle. Had he actually noticed, he probably would have interceded on Levi's behalf, but as a powerful Low Kick sent his Pokemon crashing to the ground at his feet, Keegan grit his teeth, his energies focused elsewhere. He held up the Great Ball and wordlessly recalled the beaten Geodude, silently thanking her for a job well done. He looked up at the fighting type, and once again fought the urge to blast the Pokemon away with psychic type attacks, and instead, opted to send out someone who hadn't seen battle in quite a long time.

"All right my little huntress! It's your turn!" he shouted as the Pokeball was hurled. The sphere opened, and the energy within was spilled out into the air and quickly took shape: it was Artemis, Keegan's feisty Swellow. The bird flapped her wings and sped through the air, glaring daggers down at the Primeape below.

The boy looked up at the flying Pokemon, a fretful look spreading across his face. "Primeape! Try to, uh, scratch it! Go!" The fighting type Pokemon looked up at the Swellow, also looking doubtful. Nevertheless, it leapt up high, attempting to at least get a hand on the agile bird Pokemon.

"Quick Attack!" the redhead shouted, watching his Pokemon become a speeding blur up above him. Artemis dived down, lashing out with her claws before speeding up again, hardly noticing the glancing blow the Primeape dealt her at the same time.

"Owned," Jake said with a sigh, and recalled his Cubone sadly. "Oh well." He shrugged, and turned to the girl who'd been watching silently the whole time. "You want to try and avenge me, Crissy?" he asked, giving her a playful nudge.

Crissy nodded curtly, tugging at one of the braided pigtails that trailed down either side of her head. "You bet." She stepped forward, taking Jake's place, and pointed at Kasiya with one hand, while the other clutched a Pokeball. "That. I want to battle that Pokemon," she said matter-of-factly. Kasiya looked down at Levi, who shrugged and nodded. Kasiya nodded as well, kneeling on the ground while she reached into her backpack for something while supporting Levi with her free hand. She withdrew one of her Potions, and managed to prepare it before she looked down at the Mudkip. "This will sting a bit, but it should help you recover," she told Levi as she administered the spray-type medicine. Levi winced, but remained quiet as the Potion worked its magic, helping to recover most of her stamina. She hopped down from Kasiya's arms, and growled at the girl who'd issued the challenge. "I think we're ready now," Kasiya said, already beginning to dread the battle as she spied the devilish look on Crissy's face.

"Good. This is for you, Jake! I'll take her down and avenge your loss! Let's go!" The Pokeball she held quivered in her hand, and she flung it as hard as she could at the ground. Kasiya felt her blood run cold as she spotted the familiar Pokemon begin to take shape in front of her - it was small, with two long ears, and a jagged, lightning-bolt shaped tail. Normally, she wouldn't have considered a Pikachu much of a threat, but since it was facing off against Levi, this wasn't the case. "Okay Pikachu! Get that little blue pipsqueak! Thundershock attack!"

Artemis let out an angry trill (much different from her usual, melodious trilling) and did an aerial somersault in order to change the direction in which she was flying. Her keen eyes were locked on the Primeape, and the Swellow clicked her beak impatiently, waiting for Keegan to tell her to attack again.

This shouldn't take much, Keegan thought wryly, tapping his finger against his chin thoughtfully. "Artemis! Hit him hard with Wing Attack!" he commanded, snapping his fingers sharply. It was then he spied the electric mouse Pokemon glaring at Levi, sparks shooting from its cheeks as it prepared to zap the poor baby Mudkip into oblivion.

Meanwhile, Artemis zeroed in on her target, and dove down, using the air currents to her advantage. As she neared the Primeape, she held out her wings, and the strike landed in a flurry of feathers. It wasn't without consequence though, as the Primeape and trainer had seemingly battled flying opponents before. The trainer called out for a counterattack, to which the Primeape responded by grabbing the Swellow's taloned foot and throwing her to the ground with well-timed accuracy. Artemis cried out and tried to get to her feet, but now that she was on the ground, she was easy prey for her opponent.

The Pikachu's cheeks flared with sparks as it launched the volley of electricity at Levi. The lightning was reflected in Kasiya's eyes as she balled her hands into her fists. "Levi, dodge it!" she practically screamed at the Pokemon, and Levi barely had enough time to roll out of the way as the Thundershock slammed into the ground, dissipating almost immediately. The Mudkip's eyes were wide with fright, and she looked up at Kasiya helplessly.

Crissy stamped her foot on the ground, her fists clenched tightly and shaking at her sides. "Again!" she shouted, her voice loud and clear. The Pikachu nearly jumped from its trainer's command, but did as told. Sparks flew as it generated another shock and aimed it for the Mudkip, who once again rolled out of the way of the oncoming attack at Kasiya's command.

((Kinda short but I'm pressed for time here.... sorry 'bout that. >.< ))

As the last few passengers who were late hurried on to the ferry, the announcer closed off the door, and the boat set sail. As soon as they got on, Ian and Keiichi checked their tickets for their room. Since they'd never rode on this ferry, they don't know much about it. Although a fairly small boat, the routes inside were very complicated and tricky. After ten minutes of assiduous scrutiny, they still couldn't find their place. Just as they were walking by the ladder to the deck for the third time, someone was coming down from the top. Sensing this, Keiichi raised his head to examine (maybe he saw something that shouldn't have been seen)...
As the figure walked down, both Ian and Keiichi recognized that it was the girl with the large hat they saw when they were boarding. Keiichi's face went red at once. He tried to drag Ian's arm and walk away from the scene. But Ian...

"Get back into the air! Quickly!" Keegan shouted, trying to pay attention to his own battle and not be distracted by the flashes of lightning coming from Crissy's Pikachu. Artemis hopped backwards as the Primeape lunged at her, trying to land another Scratch attack on her. With a powerful flap of her wings, the Swellow launched herself back into the air, and she trilled loudly to show that she was still ready to fight. "Use your Peck attack!" Keegan hollered, stealing a glance to the side in time to see Levi roll out of the way of another Thundershock attack, and he grimaced. Levi was in trouble.

Artemis tucked her wings in and dove down again, landing a sharp peck on the top of Primeape's head. The fighter shrieked in pain, hopping up and down and rubbing the bump that was forming from Artemis's hit.

"Screech!" the trainer shouted, covering his ears with his hands. The already furious Primeape let out a terrible shriek, and Keegan couldn't help but cry out from the sound as his own hands slammed against his ears in an attempt to block out the horrible noise. Artemis shrieked as well, finding herself disoriented. Without realizing it, she'd lost altitude, and was flying just above the ground, and an easy target for the Primeape's next attack.

The Primeape's screeching caught both Kasiya and Crissy unawares, and both Levi and the Pikachu cowered from the sound as well. Having dealt with more than her fair share of screeches coming from Seto, Kasiya managed to come to her senses a little more quickly than her opponent did. "Hurry Levi, while it's distracted!" she shouted. "Mud-slap attack, go!"

The ground was still soggy in places from Levi's previous water attacks, but the little Mudkip sprayed a little more water before using her front paws to squish up the earth around her. Getting a good amount into a pile, she used her tailfin to slap the muck towards the Pikachu. The Pikachu cried out as its small body seemed to be engulfed by the goop, and it furiously rubbed at its eyes, raining sparks down all around in in anger.

"Thundershock, Pikachu!" Crissy cried, having gotten a bit of mud on her shoes and socks in the process. It's vision blurred, the Pikachu did its best to launch more electricity at Levi. Now having a bit of an advantage, Levi was able to dodge a lot easier, which allowed Kasiya to breathe a bit easier for the time being.

"Fury Swipes!" the trainer shouted, and with a burst of speed, the Primeape dashed forward, taking frenzied swipes at the Swellow. "Great! Keep that up!" he cheered.

"Hang in there, Artemis!" Keegan cried. "Fight back with Quick Attack!" Artemis managed to put a few feet of distance between herself and her attacker, and she used her feet to push off from the ground, striking the Primeape for a fast hit before she managed to put herself in the air again. "Now let's end this, Artemis! Finish it with a Wing Attack!"

Letting out a devastating screech, the Swellow launched herself at her opponent, landing hits on both sides of the Primeape with her outstretched wings. This proved to be too much for the Primeape, and it toppled over, unable to continue. Trilling triumphantly, Artemis did a few loop-de-loops to celebrate her victory before coming to land on Keegan's shoulder. "Nice job, girl," Keegan told her, reaching up to stroke her soft feathers. The Swellow clicked her beak happily, content to ruffle Keegan's hair with one of her feathery wings.

"I lost," the trainer sighed, recalling his Primeape. "Your Pokemon are tough though, so it's no wonder."

"Your Pokemon aren't bad either," Keegan said observantly. "Someday, I bet that Nidorino of yours will make a great Nidoking. And you could teach your Primeape a few more attacks for diversity."

"Thanks for the advice," the trainer nodded, turning to watch the remainder of his friend's battle. Keegan did the same, crossing his fingers behind his back and biting his lower lip as Levi got out of the way of another Thundershock.

If we keep letting it take potshots, one of those attacks is bound to hit Levi, Kasiya thought fearfully, looking at the Mudkip. Levi let another barrage of mud fly at her opponent, hopping to keep its accuracy at a minimum until Kasiya could think of some way to overcome the type disadvantage. I can't have Levi use Water Gun on it because it'll wash away the mud... well, might as well go down fighting, right?

"All right Levi! Get in there and hit it with a Tackle attack!" Kasiya shouted. Levi gave a cry and dashed forward, sending mud flying behind her with each step. She lowered her head and bashed into the Pikachu, but what happened next was something that Kasiya hadn't been expecting. The electric mouse's reflexes were as good, as most Pikachu were, and when the little Mudkip landed the hit, the Pikachu reached out swiftly and grabbed a hold of Levi.

"Hah! Nice one, Pikachu! Now blast it away with Thundershock!" Crissy cheered, watching with a devilish smirk as Levi tried to wriggle away, but to no avail.

"Oh no!" Kasiya cried, wincing as the Pikachu's cheeks glittered with electricity. It closed its eyes, and loosed as much electricity as it possibly could. Over the sound of the energy crackling, Kasiya could hear Levi's agonized shrieks, and tears brimmed in the corners of her eyes. "Levi!"

"Oh no..." Keegan groaned, averting his eyes to avoid seeing Levi being shocked by the Pikachu's fierce attacks. Artemis continued to watch from her perch on her trainer's shoulder, and she called out encouragingly to her fellow Pokemon in hopes of boosting the Mudkip's morale (although to be truthful, the Swellow was rather glad that it wasn't she who was on the receiving end of the Pikachu's Thundershock). She flew up from Keegan's shoulder and took roost in a nearby tree, still calling out to Levi.

"Kasi..." before Keegan could stop himself, he'd run to her side, putting his hands on her shoulders and forcing her to face him. "Call her back! Come on, Kasi, snap out of it!" he told her. "Don't let Levi get hurt unnecessarily!" He looked towards Crissy, wishing that he could smack the smug smirk from her face. "Stop this now!"

Kasiya was barely aware that Keegan was even there, even though she could hear him calling out to her. His voice sounded far away, and even as she looked at him it felt as though he were out of her reach. "Keegan...?" she questioned quietly, turning to look at Levi as the attack ended.

Now that the sparks had died down, the Pikachu was panting heavily, having used up a lot of electric energy with that last attack. Levi was looking at Kasiya through half-closed eyes, trembling from the hit. Again, the small Pokemon's body began to glow with the watery aura as her Torrent ability kicked in, and she looked up at the Pikachu, and let out a fierce growl. It was then that a bright light engulfed the tiny blue Pokemon's body, melding with the aura created by Torrent. Levi's body began to shift and change, and grow larger. The Pikachu let out a frightened squeak as the light faded, and it came to realize that it was no longer holding onto a small little Mudkip. Levi had nearly doubled in size, and the blue aura continued to flow around her as she glared angrily at the Pikachu that was hanging onto her. Growling, the newly evolved Pokemon reached out with a powerful forearm and snatched the Pikachu by the scruff of the neck. The Pikachu wiggled and squirmed, but couldn't get free. Levi let out another angry growl and hurled the Pikachu against the ground, although the blow was softened a bit from the mud created earlier.

"What... Levi? Okay... evolved?" Kasiya stuttered, only managing to spit out random words in her surprise. She hadn't quite registered what had happened as of yet, but she winced as Levi hurled the Pikachu to the ground. Levi looked to Kasiya once more and nodded as if to say "I've got this!" Rearing back, she let a powerful Water Gun fly, striking the Pikachu as it got to its feet. Kasiya could barely hear Crissy crying out for Pikachu to attack again, but this time, as the Pikachu sent the electricity coursing over Levi, it coiled around her like a bright snake before finding the ground at her feet, and dissipating. Finally, using what probably was the last of her own strength, Levi then summoned up a massive wave of water from beneath her feet, and sent it crashing down onto the Pikachu. Kasiya recognized that attack - it was indeed Surf.

The Pikachu did not get back up, and Crissy recalled it, glaring daggers at Kasiya and Levi. "You... you... YOU CHEATED!" she wailed, sniffling once or twice before she began to run in the direction of Vermilion City, and presumably the Pokemon Center. Without a word, the two boys followed after her, calling out for her to wait for them. Kasiya watched them for a few moments and looked back at Levi, who was now sitting in the mud, breathing heavily, but looking content. Kasiya smiled at her, and reached for her PokeDex in order to scan the new Pokemon.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 17, 2008 5:26 pm

Keegan's eyes widened at the sudden evolution, but he couldn't suppress his smile, not even a little bit as Levi turned the tide of the battle in one fell swoop. He didn't bother saying anything to the retreating kids, as he was certain that Levi's performance had added enough insult to injury as it was. He stepped back a bit as Kasiya scanned the newly evolved Levi with her PokeDex. It seemed she'd missed the stage between Mudkip and Swampert when she'd been reading up on Levi's stats.

"Marshtomp, a Mud Fish Pokemon. It's hind legs are strong and highly developed, giving it the ability to stand on two legs. Its body is enveloped in a thin, sticky film that enables it to live on land. Since it becomes weakened when its skin dries out, it plays in the mud to replenish its fluids."

"Congratulations, Kasi," Keegan said, giving her a one-armed hug as the PokeDex prattled on. "And you too, Levi," he added, hoping that his words wouldn't provoke the Marshtomp in a negative way. Artemis flew up from her perch in the tree to circle the two trainers, singing happily at the outcomes of their battles. Keegan smiled at the Swellow and put her back into her Pokeball before looking back at Kasiya again. "Let's get to Saffron, eh? We have some Pokemon in need of healing."

"Thank you," Kasiya said, stifling a small giggle as Keegan gave her what felt like a half-hug. "That certainly was exciting, wasn't it?" she asked, stuffing the PokeDex back into her pocket after it was done. "I wasn't expecting that at all."

Levi slowly made her way over towards Kasiya, looking incredibly tired. Kasiya bent down and patted her on the head affectionately. "You were incredible, Levi," she said. "We'll get to the next town and get you treated as soon as we can, but for now have a nice rest." The Marshtomp nodded as she was recalled into her Pokeball, and Kasiya replaced it. "Let's get going then," she nodded. "Maybe we can get some lunch in Saffron once we're there," she added as they once again started to walk. She seriously hoped that no other trainers decided to challenge them, as now she was eager to get going as well. Maybe after Keegan had battled Flannery (and won, or at least that's what she was expecting) she could issue the fiery redhead a challenge of her own. She liked Flannery a lot, as the older girl was cheerful and fun to hang around with. I wonder how she and Mike are doing, she thought absently, watching a flock of Pidgey and Pidgeotto pecking at the grass in the middle of the field where the Daycare stood.

"This is my first battle with Zeus...or with any Pokemon for that matter. But I'm not worried, I know Zeus 'll do great. Right buddy?" Magnemite simply floated around emotionless before heading into the designated battle area in front of the two trainers. "Magnemite."

Alex laughed a little at how Zeus seemed to ignore Jason's enthusiasm, such an odd pair that made perfect sense. "Let's do it Surskit, we're gonna be strong, too!" The little Pokemon jumped forward, but almost immediately started to back away. "Come on Surskit, I know you're scared but it'll be ok. I promise I'll take care of you, and it'll be lots of fun! Just do as I say and you'll do fine, just look at Zeus over there, it isn't scared at all." Surskit looked up at the hovering Magnemite, but gazing at the floating ball of steel with it's one eye blankly staring forward only shot her nerves even further. She tried to run again, but the determined face of her trainer made her turn again. She would be brave as well, just like Alex. "S-Surskit!"

"Alright, let's get this started! Zeus, hit her with a tackle!" As soon as Zeus received the command, his attack began. Zeus came in close to the ground and pushed itself forward, propelled by the magnetic waves it used to get around. It's single eye locked on Surskit, Zeus closed in traveling on it's linear path.

"Come on Surskit, you can dodge that easy! Jump and hit 'em with a bubble!" Surskit no longer delayed, she jumped up into the air and began firing weak little bubbles at Magnemite. Alex was right, even though Magnemite may have jumped the gun at the start, Surskit was much quicker than magnemite, and her timid nature made her even quicker.

"Shake it off Magnemite, let's hit her with another tackle!" The bubbles were weak and though it was a water attack, Jason knew that steel types were typically admirable in their defensive stats. Magnemite obeyed once more charging down the linear path just as before.

"That all you got? This is no fun after all. Bubble, one more time Surskit!" Surskit did exactly as before, again dodging Zeus's attack and hitting it in the back with bubbles.

Man, all Zeus knows is tackle and Metal Sound. I can't use the latter, it wouldn't serve much of a purpose. Metal Sound assaults the mental and inner self to lower special defense rather than normal defense, or something like that anyway. Since it doesn't know Thunder shock yet, that won't really help. Let's see...Surskit is faster than Magnemite, what should I do! "Keep at it, Tackle once more!"

Keegan didn't say anything, he just stuck his hands in his coat pockets as they walked, taking in the lovely Kanto scenery. It was amazing how different it was from Hoenn, and even though he hadn't been in Kanto very long, he was already starting to miss the scenic views of his home region. He knew it wouldn't be a short trip to go back home, but he did know that traveling would eat up the time between now, and when he'd be seeing Helios again. In all his life before becoming a trainer, he never imagined himself becoming so attached to a Pokemon. He shrugged the thought off and looked to Kasiya, who'd become increasingly quiet since they'd set off again. He suspected she was lost in her own thoughts, probably about the battle and Levi's evolution, and he decided to stay quiet as well. He did smile at her though, to let her know that he was willing to listen if she felt the need to talk about something, and he hoped he was being subtle as he gently took her hand in his.
