Forgot you guys existed for half a day.

I had a way longer post about it once but ******** if I feel like fully rehashing it.

But how I think about time in posts is this.

Opposing Action posts cover about 1~5 seconds, with some overlap between the two combatants. Depends on number of actions taken, counters, movement, etc. Ex: you parrying a sword strike from your opponent, then trying to slam your fist into their exposed gut. You getting your head smashed over.

Non-Opposing Action posts cover literally anything above 5 seconds. Could be thirty or forty seconds, could be several minutes. These can be woven into Opposing Action posts, and are why despite how it looks, fights aren't just 10-40 seconds long. Ex: dialogue, non-opposing movement, pacing, charging (sometimes), idling.

Not everybody projects or receives this well of course, but overall the above's solid material. A fight lasting a few minutes is actually pretty reasonable when you consider it's people fighting with weapons without breaks and no referee. (Powers are "weapons" and a well trained fist is a weapon as well.)

Then fights where one guy describes crystal sweat on his abs and the other guy describes his hat, those go on for hours IC. Hours and hours and hours. And hours.

That's the important part.


I can't say for what it's like to fight Umbra because I've never done it. But I can say that it's definitely different to fight someone with a rapier that knows what a sword is supposed to be used for than... 99% of the Gaian population.

I think the last thing I had that resembled a swordfight was fighting Vahn Fah in 2011.

Well neither have I... I was just using him as an example because I rag on Fierach enough as it is. He's your cookie cutter animu hero wherein you stab at him and he replies with like 5 slashes to 7 parts of your body and you're just like... okay then.

Yeah but then you tell him he's dumb and kick him in the sack.

I'm always going to see Nodachi with Fierach everytime. The moment he entered it in the GTB, I was like "Are you serious, Sephiroth?"

I fought him.

He bled acid on me.

I wasn't too amused.

Oh yeah...out of context...that's pretty gay. sweatdrop

Like, I think it's cool to do neat things in RP combat...and occasionally even have "AH HAH!" s**t on a character...but I have my limits. Alien-blood being pretty high up on the list...

Example :: Jak Savage has an indestructible crotch, and that means that his wedding tackle is completely impervious to damage. Think Achilles being dipped in the Styx...except just his bits...but that's completely cool! If you decide, "Hey! I'ma head-butt ole Savage in his nuts right now...because I'm a mean ********!" Then, yeah, you'll possibly crack your skull. But that's a cool set piece...and if I ever EVER managed to pull that s**t off...

Man...

That would be legendary.

Not like, "Oh! Foolish mortal...you would strike RYUGI in his shoulder with a closed fist? Needless to say, I have a diode there that gives anyone who strikes me in that region a nasty shock of Dragon THUNDER!"

Of course, that same concept works in reverse; as it did when I fought, and killed, Aetyra in the last GTB. I wasn't trying to snap her neck...but her "Ah hah!" factor was essentially immunity to damage that didn't effect her skeletal structure...Me being me, I flipped her a**.

And she died. rofl
