My former friend was definitly not the best "manga artist" in the world. Sure, she DREW well, with smooth lines and good proportions and all, but every single character had the same face, same eye style, same height, same body width, and so on. The only things that changed were colors, clothes, and hair styles. She even gave every single female character earrings of the exact same style, just different colors. She even has a cat girl character named "Neko" for farks sake.
I remember, back when we first came friends a long long long long long time ago, since I "knew" Japanese, she wanted me to give three of her characters Japanese names. Armed with a japanese phrase book and an online "kanji tattoo" website, I named her characters Seitama Kano, Seitama Mizuno, and Seitama Hikarino, which I thought meant "Pure soul of fire/water/light". Apparently "ka" is a different pronounciation of the Kanji that means fire and it was supposed to be "hi", and I have no idea if "seitama" actually means "pure soul" or not, but she got really, really pissed off at me five years later for getting the Japanese name wrong on her favorite character.
Bleh. It seems with the whole anime-fad going on right now, things that are drawn good looking are more popular than things that are drawn well.
Edit:
http://www.makenai.co.uk/characters/kano.php <--- I love how the random fact isn't actually a fact, but made up to make it look like the name "Kano" was intentional. (It's my fault her series is named "makenai" too. Forgive me, I was young)
