Seeing that, Lily gave out another of those weak laughs, reaching into her pocket for her handkerchief. "Hey... you've got something on your nose." she told him, vaguely amused as she reached out to wipe it of for him. "Messy eater, aren't you?" she teased.

"Oh, I think yes." Lily told him with a smile, waving the cloth. "I have evidence right here, you know. Best to just come clean." Then, unable to resist the impulse, she leaned over and hugged him quickly, smiling. "I'm only kidding, Arlen."

Arlen hugged Lily back tightly. "Could I sleep with you tonight?" he asked her quietly.

Instantly, Lily felt equal amounts of pain and pleasure, tightening her arms around him protectively. Even if he wasn't her Arlen, she would help him; she wouldn't let him die like that. "Of course you can." she told the boy, a few tears escaping before she could stop them. "But just to warn you, I snore." she teased, trying to cheer herself up.

"You're welcome, little one." Lily whispered, running the fingers of one hand through his hair. "Do you want to go t bed now? You look a bit tired..." she murmured, watching him carefully, expression now a bit guarded.

"It's okay. I've been going to bed early lately anyway." Lily assured him, then kissed the top of his head before smiling down at him. "So if you're tired, we'll go to bed, and I don't mind, okay?"

"There we go." Lily murmured, giving his hand a squeeze as she stood as well. "Come on, kiddo." she added, walking him up the stairs and to her room. "There you go... climb on into bed. I need to change, and then I'll be right back, okay?" she told him softly, grabbing her pajamas and heading to the bathroom.

Arlen nodded and kicked off his shoes before getting into the bed. He sat quietly, trying to stay awake at least until Lily got back.

Lily returned shortly, tossing her dirty clothes into a laundry basket before going to the bed and crawling under the covers. That done, she thought a moment, then opened her arms, inviting him to lay down and snuggle if he so wished.

Arlen happily and sleepily scootched as close as possible to Lily and hugged himself to her before drifting off.

For awhile, Lily was kept awake by those conflicting feelings of pleasure and pain as she watched him sleep. Finally, however, she was so tired that she drifted off, arms wrapped securely around the boy as they both slept.
