I was planing on using the tanks for suporting fire and protecting the men from light weapons fire by shielding them.

how versatile is the basalisk?

btw thanks for the comments guys very helpfull every one of them!

Not. Of course, the Basilisk doesn't have to be versatile. Its a high power stationary weapon, given how its weapon is an "Ordnance Barrage" cannon. High strength, low AP, and incredible range make it one of the most powerful weapons in the game, but the indirect fire scatters can screw you over.

I was playing a relatively large game a while back (1500 pt armies, 2 armies to a team). My Guard were using 3 Basilisks to varied effect. One shredded apart a deep striking Assault Marine squad in turn 2. 8 men dead with one shot. The other shots in that turn killed 8 Guardians and a Rhino along with 4 of the marines inside.

At the same time, though, they're fire magnets. People will recognize the damaging capabilities of a Basilisk and they WILL make it a target. Be sure to have them in/behind cover to pick up the Holed Down bonus, and use your other squads of whatever you have to try and take out any heavy weapons that your opponent will throw at them.

Personally I have grown to love my Vanquisher, a basic model with almost no upgrades to speak of, just a lascannon and track guards. And seeing as she's a non-standard Codex model most people just think of it as a funky long-barreled Russ and not a tank killer.

The Vanquisher Cannon has, what, double the range of a Lascannon?

Not that good, just an additinal 24".

The Vanquisher sounds prety damn good. I'm not goina go with a basalisk, its a big fek off gun (which is always good) but i'm wanting a fair amount of mobility. *ponders over new data*

She's got a range of 96" and fires HVAT to boot. Destroying marine Raiders and poncy flying tanks has never been more easy.

I may have to test out the Vanquisher in my next battle. My Marine friend would probably be distraught. He relies heavily on Armor most of the time. The last battle that I fought against him he had 6 tanks. 3 Preds and 3 Rhinos.

I can't help but notice that the Krieg pattern lasgun looks an awful lot like the US BAR.

Indeed it does, now that you mention it. Funny, that.

Hey peoples, I'm just the newest guild member 'round here, and thouht I'd show my face in the Imp section. I've been playing 8 years, and I currently have an Armoured company running, and I've begun work on my Drop Troops and Navy Fighter wing. Maybe if you're lucky you'll get pictures xd

I can't help but notice that Krieg soldiers look a lot like soldiers from the same time period and setting as the BAR. xd

And welcome, Guard are fun, I sport a fair-sized army of them, as do most of the rest of the crew. domokun

Indeed, the Lucius pattern lasgun is much alike to the BAR, only this lasgun variant is a single shot weapon with enough power for 25 shots. Interesting to note perhaps is that the weapon operates on a 25 megathule range instead of the more common 16 megathule range as seen with the Mars and Kantrael patterns.

And yup, Krieg are very much like WWI Germans on the Western Front. The combat engineers are a lot like Sturm Grenadiers, assault engineers, with the same bulky armour. Thankfully FW never put spikes on their helmets though.

I saw a Konvershun with Helmet spikes on the Death Korps. A bit too archaic for my taste confused

And to think that the Germans hardly every wore those spiked helmets into combat.

Nothing like the potential for a good spiked head butt though cool

That doesn't get me as much as the sheer number of people who just don't wear their helmets in the 40k universe. Anyone who has been in any sort of combat, real or mock, knows that a helmet is one of the most important pieces of kit you have. Yet, all these sergeants, captains, and everyone sees fit to toss theirs aside at first sight of the enemy.
