I don't know why you'd want to get rid of them (don't you know they can orally transfer wisdom?), but to get rid of a garden gnome, you simply have to strip naked and run through the garden at a full moon. The little creatures will be so offended and blinded by your exposed pale English skin, that they'll vacate the premises quite speedily. This method is so effective that any gnome you see afterwards will look at you in an affronted manner and scurry away.
