And that's enough to pass judgment on an entire shade of sentai heroes?

Yes.
...
Mostly because traditional sentai is fairly formulaic. Red is the leader, Blue is the best friend, Pink is the girl, and so on. ^^

Yosuke was yellow in P4:The Golden. There was a joke about it, of course...but at least Red's in decent company there. XD
And isn't blue the smart one, black the brute/fighter, yellow a girl/martial artist/fat one, green an extra/expendable one, white an ace, pink the girl, or something like that?

Along those lines, yeah. Yellow can be a girl if they want two on the team, though. Depends slightly on the series. XD

Then there's the white with a splash of rainbow, who isn't a part of the team, but shows up to help them when they need it. Kinda like a tuxedo mask kinda thing, but a complete and total badass. o wo b

I think that role is usually taken by Gold...? The whole "Sixth Ranger" thing and all. o wo
(Sentai is primarily for kids, and it helps to have an easy-to-follow formula across different series so they can understand it better)

Heh heh heh heh...
There's also that fruit one being done by Urobuchi. I haven't even seen anything except for the odd picture, but... I feel so sorry for that generation of kids. XD
