The Haelstrom Fist I never got to play FFXI much. What little I did though, it was fun. Personally, needed more PVP elements to really grasp my interest, and given I've not paid attention to XIV at all, I'm going to just assume/pretend it has addressed this. I really loved FFXI PVP, here's one of my videos for that too! http://www.youtube.com/user/SleepyMiko#p/u/8/gPKfR0FMXO0 Also, you might be interested in this one Jello, this is my WHM in 60 cap PVP as a tank. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KVdBJ85eSw

Heroscape is like a table top wargaming for children/poor people.
I approve.
I will buy this to get my woman into playing.

Man... I'll show you my Heroscape sometime.
A bunch of zombies and s**t that gain RIDICULOUS stats in water, and their "boss" unit is a building that just keeps spawning them once every round. It's pretty awesome.

That's a great way of putting it. Having that sort of challenge to the game, while limiting, did make everything feel so much more significant. Don't even get me started on CoP. I loved those battles as much as I hated how difficult they could be, if only for the virtue that everyone needed to be at the top of their game and actually contribute in order to make it through. Well, ideally.
Of course I never got into endgame content, and I feel grateful enough for that. Seemed like it could be too much drama.
And I was much the same when it came to linkshells. I hated the idea of leeching off high-level players, so I would just do shouts in cities to get stuff done. But then I had a great LS and one friend I met in XI on particular who helped me do so much. Baaah... I miss those times. ; ;

The Fiend of the West I tried FF11 once for trial. I took me forever to figure out how to move right for some reason. You were probably trying to use the mouse. Don't use the mouse. I played the entire game with the numpad and arrow keys and I was a god of efficiency when it came to party micro-management and corner-cutting while running. Which is important. Especially when you're training half a zone behind you and needing every fence-post and terrain-edge you can pass to slow them up. The Haelstrom Fist I never got to play FFXI much. What little I did though, it was fun. Personally, needed more PVP elements to really grasp my interest, and given I've not paid attention to XIV at all, I'm going to just assume/pretend it has addressed this. XIV looks like it will be good, I just wish they had more information presented. They have a lot of teasers, but nothing at all about how the classes/levels/crafting will actually function which is pretty irksome considering that they made a big deal about having some system that doesn't involve levels. And FFXI didn't have PvP until it was introduced about... oh, 5 years after the initial release. In a series of minigames and sporting event type battleground things. It looked wonky, but I never got to try it.

I need to know what time it is IC for my fight.
So I know whether or not to just go ahead and forfeit.

It's tempting, but life happened to everyone and they all left the game. D:
Although if you were starting up I'd definitely consider. But I'm jonesin' for FF14.

I dunno, I'm the b*****d who likes global PVP with harsh penalties that make the victor grow a 20' e-peen and the loser contemplate suicide. Arranged duels, mini-games, anything of the ilk don't quite cut it.
A sense of human danger makes the game way more exciting/fun, this is true of any MMO.
I fondly recall Lineage II faggotry with me and my friends on a hardcore PVP server, as we'd use one guy as bait for low-level gankers, then utterly demolish them and get shinies.
