They pushed themselves a bit too hard and now need a sevenday or two of rest and recuperation. Flight is difficult, and it's Wingleader's orders to keep them rested so as not to cause further damage. You and your dragon are both likely irritable and restless due to the discomfort.

The pain is enough to keep you irritable for a few days because it was a pretty nasty and bad bite. There's also only so much you're able to do to help them given it is a mouth injury, and any numbweed needs to be injected into the tongue itself, and wears off far too quickly.
