Sam had handed off the pokeballs to Nurse Joy, and now was dozing in the cafeteria. She had eaten all the food she could eat, and also gotten some food for the road. She was exhausted...she sat bolt upright. She had to call her parents! She dashed to the phone, and dialed her number. Her mom picked up.

"Sam? Is that you sweetie?" Her mom sounded distracted.

"Uh yeah Mom it's me...what's up?" She heard her Dad's booming laugh in the background.

"Oh Sam, go use the video phone, we finally got one installed." Sam raised an eyebrow, but hung up and went to use the video phone. Someone else was using it. She leaned against the wall, waiting for the blond man to finish using it. Wait a minute...

"Orion? Is that you?" Sam was sure it was the same man who had helped her to Professor Oak's. The man turned around. Sure enough, it was Orion.

"Oh Sam. Hi! How're you doing?" Sam suddenly felt very shy.

"Oh I'm doing good...I just beat Brock," she said nonchantly.

"Really? That's great! You're well on you're way then!" He was now completely ignoring whoever was on the screen.

"Yeah, yeah I guess." He turned his attention back to the screen. He finished up his conversation, and stepped back.

"Did you need to make a call?" Sam nodded.

"Yeah thanks." He stood back and watched as she dialed. She didn't mind that he was eavesdropping. Her mom picked up again. She saw her mom's round face, with her short brown hair framing it. She was smiling, her cheeks red with blush.

"Oh hi Goose! Oh who's your friend?" Sam winced at the nickname.

"Mom this is Orion, he was the one who originally brought me to Professor Oak's"

"Okay. HI ORION!" Her mom could be a ditz sometimes. Her dad came up behind her. He was a lot taller then her, and he put his hands on her shoulder.

"Traci, remember..."

"Oh yes yes! Sammy lookie here!" Sam sighed and closed her eyes momentarily.

'I swear, sometimes Mom is just like a spazzy teenager' She opened her eyes, and saw a grainy black and white picture before her, obscuring her mom's face. Orion inhaled sharply. Sam didn't see what the big deal was. You couldn't even see what was in the picture...then she recognized the shape.

"M-m-mom...You're pregnant?!"

The small little Yanma was not even a tad bit upset at Robin. He had messed up in that battle big time to, besides getting hit with that Hyper Beam had taught him to never get hit with that attack ever again. Chirping a bit in his trainers grasp he managed to squirm out of it. Raz might have been at full health again but he was very tired. Settling down somewhat he looked over at Robin before nudging her hand with the parkball in it.

Glad that Raz wasn't really hurt Robin was happy to call him back into the parkball. He seemed really tired and she was sure that he deserved a little rest. So in high spirits Robin smiled down at Luffy before hitching her bag up her shoulder a bit more. "Well Luffy are you ready to go back and see Ampersand? We get to take the train again, you like the train don't you?" Actually Robin wasn't sure if Luffy liked the train, he always disappeared for some reason.

Luffy though was not ready to get on the cool train again, he wanted to see the guy with the cool hat to. However what he wanted even more was one of those shiny water drop things that were inside that building full of water earlier. Those would be a really cool thing to have. So instead of nodding at Robins suggestion he used one of his cool new tails to grab her hand and drag her off in that direction.

"What? Luffy where are you taking me?" Robin cried as she was practically dragged behind the energetic Ambipom. When he finally stopped dragging her, they had been pretty close to the gym, Robin looked up to see where she was exactly. What she saw surprised her, they were at the Cerulean gym. "Oh, I dunno Luffy... I heard Gym leaders were really tough. Do you really think we can take one on?" She muttered. She still wasn't feeling that confident, not like her usual self anyway. Looking down at her best friend she suddenly felt the energy that she used to have before. Luffy believed in her, her whole team believed in her. Suddenly that was all she needed, the words from earlier didn't matter to her, all that did matter was to become a stronger person so that she could protect those she cared about. "You know what Luffy. You are right. We should totally challenge Misty. I know we can win if we try hard enough."

At her feet Luffy's grin became wider, those were the words he loved to hear. Yes he believed in Robin and she hadn't disappointed him yet. Besides if it wasn't for her then he wouldn't have gotten as strong as he was today. Because like Robin, Luffy fought and got stronger so he could protect those he cared about.

With confident grins on each of there faces they pushed the doors of the gym open and stepped inside once more.

The two new companions made there way through the small city of Viridian with ease. Hera was looking around with her wide eyes, she had never been outside of the forest before and so this was all new to her. For a moment she felt a pang of sorrow for leaving her territory behind but that quickly vanished. If she had stayed there then there was no way that she would be able to get stronger. She was from a clan of Heracross that promoted how strong you were.

The walk between the two cities wasn't to long, in fact it was really short, you could practically see each of the town form the other one. Not paying to much attention to the other people on the road he debated if he should have another cigarette. Just as he decided not to have one he entered the small town. Looking around the area he saw some of the small houses. It had been a while since he had been in Pallet town but the city hadn't changed much anyway. Walking down a small street full of white picket fences he followed the signs to Professor Oaks lab.

Walking up the small hill towards the large lab he spared little attention to all the pokemon that was around him. A few of them were very powerful and they sort of reminded him of some of his past pokemon. His current team was no where near the amount of power of his last team. Still, he had a feeling that this team would get just as strong. Looking down at his newest pokemon he smiled slightly. Yes he knew that Hera was going to be a very good addition.

And just like that, Keegan regretted inviting Riza along on his little side trip. Her sudden change in attitude had caught him completely off-guard and all at once his mood did a one-eighty as well. "I never said we were going directly to Littleroot," he snapped back suddenly, folding his arms across his chest in a defensive manner. "And for your information, Little Miss Sunshine, we're in Petalburg City, not some 'backwater-hick-town' like where you probably came from," he added sarcastically, rudely repeated her words using air quotes, obviously not caring whether or not he pissed her off even further. Overreaction much, he thought angrily, glowering at her. She's just like... her, goddammit! And naturally, he was too busy overreacting to her overreaction to realize just how hypocritical he was being.

Fuming, he turned and stalked towards the Pokemon Center, uttering a string of mostly inaudible curses as he went. He would have burst through the front doors of the Center had they not been of the sliding variety, and feeling as though his angry entrance had been ruined, he stomped up to the front desk and uncouthly got the nurse's attention by drumming his fingers on the desktop.

The nurse's bright blue eyes flickered from her paperwork up to Keegan's green ones, then down to his offending hand and she raised an eyebrow. "Can I help you?" she asked flatly, already unimpressed by the redhead.

"Which way to Littleroot?" he asked in a bored, monotone voice.

Not wanting to deal with the youth for more than absolutely necessarily possible, the nurse simply pointed to a map tacked to the wall nearby. "First you have to head east to Oldale, and from there it's a short walk south to Littleroot."

"Thanks," he muttered, though sincerely before turning and heading over to the map that had been pointed out to him. He studied it for several minutes until he'd memorized it and he turned and exited the building, unaware that all eyes in the place had been on him since he stalked through the front doors. He reluctantly looked around for Riza so that he could relay the information about their destination to her, that is, if she hadn't gone off somewhere to sulk.
=====
The blue-haired gym leader had been sitting on the ledge of the raised platform that served as the battle arena, gazing up through the large, open ceiling at the night sky. As he heard the sound of approaching footsteps he rose, turning to face his new challenger. "Dakra, was it?" Falkner repeated coolly, brushing the hair from his eyes and carefully studying the blonde-haired boy that stood before him. "All right, then, Dakra. I am Falkner, Bird Master of the Violet City Gym and I accept your challenge." He closed his eyes and snapped his fingers, and a moment later a ring of floodlights flashed on all around the battlefield, illuminating it as brightly as though it were high noon.

He withdrew a Pokeball from an inside pocket of his over-shirt and held it up. "Two on two," he said, nodding once. "If you can defeat me, then my Zephyr Badge is yours." With those words he sent the sphere flying out onto the battlefield to reveal a larger-than-average Pidgey. It let out a shriek and did a loop-de-loop in the air before coming to land on the ground in front of Falkner. "Send out your first Pokemon," the flying type master demanded, though his voice still smooth and calm.

The inside of the gym was just like was when Robin walked in there earlier. The water was a clear blue and even the pervert swimmer guy from before was still there. Giving him a small wave as she walked by Robin and Luffy confidently walked through the gym.

While most people would be thinking up battle strategies at a time like this Robin didn't really spend a lot of thought on that. She didn't really know what pokemon she would even send out or even how many this battle would allow. All she knew was that she believed that she could win this battle so that she could become stronger for her friends. She probably wouldn't use Luffy though, she felt she had to prove herself to him once more. This gym battle would be the perfect time to do something like that to.

When she reached the place where Misty stood Robin wasn't exactly sure how to go about this. She had never challenged a gym leader before. In fact the only reason she knew this was indeed Misty was because she had seen a picture of her before. Deciding to throw caution to the wind Robin gathered up her back again confidence. "Misty of Cerulean City! I Robin Knight challenge you to a gym battle!"

Ryka nodded at the Professor's request. "Yess, of course, Professor. Thank you." She turned to Twilight to say her goodbyes. "Take care, Twilight. Kassie will treat you well, I know. We will meet again someday." A sweet smile formed on Ryka's lips as her Umbreon disappeared in a flash of red. I'll miss you.

As Kasiya placed Allegra's poke ball on the left hand slot of the trading machine, Professor Oak similtaneously placed Twilight's poke ball in the opposite slot. Ryka took note of the look on Kasiya's face. This expression made Ryka really happy, how she looked so lovingly towards Allegra's poke ball. She would truely be a good match for Twilight. This, Ryka didn't regret, nor would she ever.

After asking for a reassurance from both trainers once more, Professor Oak pressed a few small buttons, and then a larger button, one the size and color of an ovegrown cherry. Both of the poke balls were vacuumed up through tubes into the clunky machine. It made a few metal-sounding noises, a few buzzes and hums, until the poke balls fell into their respective spots. Allegra's premier ball now rested on the right, while Twilight's rested on the left, right in front of Kasiya. "Congratulations, girls! You're now the proud owners of.. each others' Pokemon!" Professor Oak exclaimed, clapping his hands for extra effect. Ryka's smile turned into a grin, and she found herself clapping along.

The Professor returned to the main computer. "Here, Ryka, I'll send over Allegra for you now.."

Ryka smiled, but quickly added, "Oh, Professor! If you may, do you think you could also send Blitz over? He may be a bit lonely too.."

Professor Oak nodded. "Sure thing. Be back in a jiffy!" He scurried off into a different room, presumably to find Ryka's Pikachu.

Ryka turned her attention towards Kasiya and smiled. "So that is how a trade works. I have never traded with anyone before!"

Misty remained on her stand, arms folded, looking her new challenger up and down. She seems to radiate confidence! was Misty's first thought. Good, a real challenge!

"Welcome to the Cerulean Gym, Robin Knight! I, Gym Leader Misty, accept your challenge!" Misty flashed Robin a peace sign. "Bleh, enough with the formalities. We'll have a three-on-three battle. Is that okay with you?"

Before her challenge could even accept the terms, Misty had made her way over to a shallow fountain sitting in the back of the gym. She reached both of her hands into the fountain, and shifted the water around until she had found what she wanted. Pulling out three poke balls, she gracefully slid through the puddles of water on the ground, skidding to a stop only a few feet in front of Robin.

"Three on three!" Misty repeated to Robin, before dashing over to the edge of the pool. Spontaneously, she jumped on a yellow float drifting closer to the poolside. She kicked the water with her barefeet to propel the float forwards, stopping when she neared the middle of the left side of the pool. "Oh, sorry! Gym rules say that we need to fight in the pool! I hope you don't mind!"

Robin watched the energetic gym leader spring into action. A three on three battle? Well she was all ready for that! Plus she was sure she could make better poses then Misty could. Of course she didn't acknowledge that part of her thoughts. "A three on three battle on the water huh? I am sure we can have fun in this match! Luffy lets go!" Robin said with a grin.

The two of them in turn dashed forward themselves towards the large pool in the middle of the arena. When they reached the end Robin and Luffy jumped onto the yellow floating raft. Landing in a sort of balanced squatting pose Robin looked up and grinned as Luffy landed behind her. Robin and Luffy were now back to back and with a move that almost seemed choreographed. Robin got up and crossed her arms over her chest her legs spread wide in order to help her get her balance, Luffy meanwhile had dipped both of his hand tails in the water and was using them to propel them to their side of the arena.

"Heh I hope you don't mind me sending out my pokemon first." Robin said with a grin. Without really a second thought Robin reached into her bag and pulled out her Slowpoke's pokeball. Sure he was a new pokemon for her, and yeah she had never used him in a battle, and ok so maybe it wasn't the brightest idea. Still Robin wasn't going to second guess herself anymore. "All right Slowpoke I hope you are ready for this battle!" Robin cheered. Giving a small toss of Slowpokes pokeball and catching it Robin tossed it out in a sort of dramatic way.

In a flash Robin's newest pokemon appeared in the water. Slowpoke blinked a few times as he felt the cool water around him suddenly. Huh? He had been comfortably resting in his ball and now he was out in a pool of water. What was going on here? "Poooke?"

Dakra smiled. He held out his arm, waiting for Jack to land on it. After standing there for a few minutes without a response he turned around. He saw Jack and Sherlock playing Tic-Tac-Toe.
"Hey! You know the drill! We practiced this!" Quickly, Dakra put Jack on his arm. "I'll use Jack. Pidgey VS. Pidgey."

Jack looked at other Pigdey with glee. 'Finally,' He thought, 'A chance to prove myself!' With a happy caw, Jack jumped up onto Dakra's head.

Dakra followed the Gym Leader to the arena and took Jack off his head. The ref. came over to Dakra and told him the rules.
"When you are ready." He said to both combatants.
"Ready!" Dakra said. Jack jumped into the sky, waiting for his opponet.

"I did not come from a hick town!" Riza screeched defiantly after Keegan as he walked away from her, and though she could have easily followed after him to continue yelling at him she chose not to make a scene. The poor unsuspecting trainers inside didn't need to be subjected to that. Huffing a little the raven haired girl just stood there, not knowing what to do now. As much as she wanted to just leave him here, she knew she couldn't. Riza didn't know this place from a hole in the ground. It was a nice enough city though, and again Riza thought about how different this place was from Blackthorne, which had it's own unique beauty. "Hick town," she scoffed, folding her arms. She knew quite well that her hometown was home to the toughest Pokemon Gym in all of Johto, and she doubted that Keegan could boast about that. Then again, she didn't know where he was from in the first place. "Stupid boys," she muttered, kicking the ground, deciding then that she would try not to be so snippy. It wasn't like he'd actually done anything wrong.

A few moments later she heard footsteps coming up behind her and without turning around she listened to what the red head had to say. "Fine," she said simply. "Let's go then, great leader." The last part was said without any sarcasm at all, and she turned around and forced a weak smile. "Okay?" She hoped that he would understand that she didn't want to argue anymore, especially about nothing.

"Let's go then, great leader." When Riza turned around, she was smiling a bit. The wind was lightly tossing her raven locks around and for a moment or so Keegan could only stare at her, trying not to smile back.

It was infectious, however, and soon the redhead succumbed to it and was grinning right back at her. He decided to let the past five minutes or so be forgotten and he nodded once. "All right. Onto Oldale, then."

He guessed that Riza didn't own a bike of her own, which meant they would have to go by foot and thus make the trip that much longer. Keegan soon discovered that he wouldn't mind so much, as there were worse things than having a tall, pretty girl at your side. The Pokemon Center was only a short distance from the edge of Petalburg City and before long they passed through it and into the start of route 102. Right away one could tell that the path was well worn, and that it would wind a lot as this route seemed to be smack in the middle of a wooded area, though not dense enough to really be considered a forest. Keegan was thankful for this as they walked, remembering well his last trip through the Petalburg Woods and how it hadn't ended well. Not only that, but he probably wouldn't encounter any bug Pokemon along this route, as the redhead had a nearly debilitating (yet incredibly amusing to anyone around him) fear of bug Pokemon. Keegan hated himself for having such a ridiculous phobia, especially seeing as said bugs were weak to fire Pokemon, and his favourite at that. It didn't make any sense to him, but he figured that's why phobias were often called 'irrational fears.'

"Hey Riza," he said after they'd been walking for a while, "you got any fears?" Okay, so it probably wasn't the lamest attempt at civilized conversation, but it was certainly close. "I... can't stand bug Pokemon," he admitted after a moment or two, letting Riza know that he wouldn't judge her for her fears while hoping she wouldn't laugh at him for his.

Falkner smirked lightly when he saw Dakra send out a Pidgey of his own, carefully noting the eye patch. It looked as though the little bird had been through some tough times, and Falkner's fascination with birds had piqued his curiosity about this one as well. However, now was not the time to dwell on it and Falkner quickly shifted his focus on the battle at hand. "Pidgey, Gust attack," he said quietly, once again brushing the hair from his eyes. He snapped his fingers. "Now."

Not so much as a sound was uttered by the bird before it launched itself into the air with a single beat of its wings. It narrowed its eyes at the opposing Pidgey before it let out a shrill cry and began to flap its wings at an incredible speed, kicking up a small, yet violent whirlwind which it then sent at the other bird.

Riza had decided to keep quiet as they started their trek towards this Oldale place, not sure if Keegan had really stopped being mad yet or if he was just keeping the peace until he could find an opportunity to ditch her. She shook her head lightly at that thought though, she didn't think he was mean enough to just leave her in this place. Once they'd entered the wooded area Riza had a good look around. She'd never seen so many trees in one place before, though even she knew this place could hardly be called an actual forest. It was nice though, quiet and calm, and the trees overhead were keeping the sun off them, for which Riza was grateful. She didn't get sunburned yesterday and she was hoping that she could avoid it today as well.

Keegan's sudden question caught her off guard though and she stopped for a moment before continuing. "Bugs? Really?" she asked, not at all amused. "To tell you the truth, they scare the crap outta me too. I hate bugs." She shivered at the thought of their creepy crawly legs and little antennas and feelers. "Bug Pokemon are a less creepy than actual bugs though," she said, thinking back to the time her brother, much younger then, had put his pet tarantula in her bed. She'd been unable to sleep in her own bed for months afterward. "There is a nest of Spinarak out back behind my Dad's house, and I used to watch them to try and get over my fears. I once tried to catch one in a pillow case so I could scare my brother with it, but I chickened out before I even got within ten feet of it." She thought for a moment longer, trying to remember what else scared her. "Thunderstorms, when I was little, at least. Snakes, too! Oh, and also my great grandmother on my Mom's side. That woman as insane, rest her soul." She smiled at Keegan, genuinely this time. She liked this, talking and getting to know each other. It was much better than just walking in silence, or yelling at each other for no real reason at all.

"Jack, dodge it!!!"

Jack saw the gust attack coming towards it. He tried to avoid it, but it was too fast. Hitting him hard, Jack was sent spiraling to the ground. Crawling up, Jack shook his head. He jumped back into the air and flew back up.

Dakra gritted his teeth. This Pidgey was faster and stronger. He had to use his head to win this one...
"JACK, USE TACKLE!!!"

Jack flew towards the oppenet, building speed. He was about to make contact...

Kasiya watched the trade process anxiously, wondering why exactly they needed to go through all this rigmarole when it came to trading Pokemon. Why couldn't two trainers just exchange the Pokeballs and seal the deal with a friendly handshake or something? When the machine stopped whirring, Kasiya swiftly reached out and took Twilight's Pokeball from the tray and held it out at arm's length to study it. Welcome to the team, Twilight, she thought happily, looking up as Oak once again left the room.

"Yeah, it's really that simple," she said, smiling up at Ryka again. Thought it really doesn't have to be... "I've traded with a few different people before, but only to help their Pokemon evolve." She took a deep breath. "My friend Sabrina, I helped her evolve her Alakazam. And this other boy, Mark, I helped him with his Machamp. And-" she cut herself off, closing her eyes, "-I also traded with some other guy so his Graveler could evolve into a Golem. They were only temporary trades though, done in about five minutes or so." Looking around she spied one of Oak's PC's sitting in the corner (also a dinosaur; Kasiya couldn't help but wonder if Oak knew what the word 'upgrade' meant) and she jogged over to it. It took longer to boot up than she liked but when it did she entered her information and selected to deposit a Pokemon. She kissed Fang's Pokeball before she set it in the slot and it vanished, though the journey for the shiny Crobat wasn't very far. It was a matter of moments before she heard the Crobat's screeches from the back yard, and she assumed he would find himself a nice tree to hang upside down in for a nap. Don't get too comfortable, she thought, knowing she'd need the Crobat later. It was hard on him but Kasiya knew he'd be faster (and cheaper) than taking the train or ferry all the way back to Hoenn. That being done, she also withdrew the TM from item storage that she'd won from Koga not that long ago.

After logging off she turned around and let the Umbreon out of his Pokeball, staring wide-eyed as he was accompanied by a shower of sparkles, not unlike Fang's entrance except for the fact that some of the sparkles were blue instead of green. "This is for you, Twilight," she said, nodding as she pressed the violet disc against the blue ring on his forehead. It shimmered for a moment before turning a steely grey and cracking in half, after which Kasiya disposed of. A sinister little smirk appeared on the Umbreon's face as the realization of what this move could do sunk in. He looked up at the girl thankfully, his tail swaying back and forth in a happy manner. Kasiya giggled. "You're welcome."

So she doesn't like bugs either, Keegan thought with a light chuckle, suddenly not feeling so bad anymore. He listened quietly as she spoke, nodding along. He too preferred this to silence and/or inane fighting. "I also don't like water," he added, trying not to picture the scary great-grandmother Riza had mentioned. "Or rather, deep water. I can't stand boat rides, as you already probably know, and I'm not really that fond of swimming, either," he went on, deciding to clarify in order to prevent any jokes she could make at his expense involving showers and personal hygiene.

Their light chatter kept them both pretty occupied until there was a break in the trees, and a small town seemingly appeared in front of them. It seemed to have only one main street and a few shops dotted along it, though there were few side streets as well. Keegan wondered how many people lived in this place, though he automatically noticed just how quiet and peaceful it was here. "Nice place," he mumbled, looking south after he'd gained his bearings. "We're making good time, so should keep going," he added after a moment or two. "Unless there's something you want to do here." It was a valid statement, but for the life of him Keegan couldn't think of many reasons why they'd need to stay here longer than necessary.
=====
Falkner's lips were set in a tight line as he watched the eye-patch-clad Pidgey crash to the ground after taking the full hit from his Pidgey's Gust. He didn't like to boast, but he already could see how this battle would end. He sighed, not wanting to harm the young Pidgey, but when trainers rushed headlong into battles like these without proper preparations, it often left him with little choice. "Are you certain your Pokemon are up to this task?" he challenged, eyes flickering from his own Pidgey to Dakra, and then back again.

The opponent jumped back up and flew in for a Tackle. Falkner shook his head ever so slightly. "Dodge that," he said coolly. Falkner's Pidgey narrowed its eyes, watching carefully as its opponent drew nearer. It waited until the last possible second before putting on a burst of speed and zipping straight up into the air by means of a Quick Attack and avoiding Jack's Tackle completely. Though it could have easily countered, it simply looked down at its opponent, mirroring its trainer's sentiments as it awaited Dakra and Jack's next move.

"I'm sure he is." Dakra said, but he was starting to worry. There was no way he was going to beat the other Pidgey in the air. He would have to think of something quick...
"Pidgey, fly up as high as you can." Jack did so, and looked down. "NOW, Tackle again!"

Jack was high in the air. Looking down on his trainer, he tried to pinpoint the other Pidgey. He found it, and dive bombed. Jack quickly picked up speed, this time fully aware of how fast this bird was. He headed straght towards it...and went underneth. Using the speed it had gained, Jack looped around and went head first towards the other Pidgey...
