Absanthe

Meredith was able to pick the funny looking girl out of a crowd anywhere. D--n, with white hair and a bright red dress Chinese style it was pretty difficult to pass under the peripherals radars but with those tails it was Godd--n impossible. The hunter leader's nose turned up in a sneer and her eyes narrowed in a glare. She knew all too well who Neko was simply because she was part of the reason Meredith was the leader of the hunters now and her brother was in a coma. The only reason, however, that Meredith knew what Neko looked like had been because of Mauser posting each one of the elder's pictures on television and Meredith had been able to put a face to the name Neko. Needless to say, Eden wasn't too pleased about her brother being completely out of commission and potentially fighting for his life every waking day. The first emotion to burn through her was pure hatred at the sight of the woman who somehow became utterly repulsive once the hunter leader recognized just who she was.

While standing there, Eden noticed that the elder seemed to have picked up some sort of sound and was hasty to speed up a tree and hide herself from it. For a moment the hunter leader almost decided to leave things at that but she knew that she wasn't going to be satisfied with simply letting Neko go for what she'd done to Will. It would be so easy to just pick her off with a couple of shots ... Okay, well maybe it wouldn't be, she was an elder after all and they could deal with a lot of s--t but that didn't stop her from wanting to shoot the b---h that'd put her brother into a coma. There was no one stopping her from opening fire on Neko but at the same time Eden knew that she wanted a reason for why Neko had done that to her brother. Sure he was the hunter leader but was that her only reason? That he lead the hunters and that they killed her pathetic race? If so then she was probably going to call the elder on her bullshit and put a bullet through her.

The hunter leader chose to approach the tree she observed the animalian elder climb up and pursued her to the point she was standing beneath the tree glaring up into it. She knew this probably wasn't a smart idea but she wasn't going to let this b---h get the best of her like she had William. Not to mention Eden was a hell of a lot more durable than her brother now considering her recent alterations. The woman merely stood there for a moment, probably not someone Neko would even recognize and then her prominent voice filled that particular area of the park. "Hey you. Yeah, you hiding up the tree there. You're Neko, aren't you? I'm assuming you remember William Jackson, former hunter leader, right? I'm his little sister and I've been forced to take his place because of you ... I'm not really prepared to be overly friendly to someone that put my brother in a hospital bed possibly for the rest of his life provided he survives ... But I need to know why. What the f--k did he do to you that was SO horrible?" Instead of yelling she was closer to crying and it was clear she was trying to keep herself under control and not show her tears to the likes of her brother's almost killer.

Neko watched Meredith walk to the tree she was in, standing just beside the trunk and staring right at the Tainted Elder. Listening to the Hunter's words, the cat kitsune tried to hold back tears of her own, remembering that awful, horrible day. Slowly, she slid down the trunk to stand not far away from Meredith, making sure she was within striking distance.

Neko had always been told that she was beautiful and pretty, with large green eyes and a mouth with full lips that were quicker to smile than frown. Her body was often described as curvaceous or voluptuous despite her tiny size, with undulating curves that made her look soft and feminine.

Her green eyes now looked harried and hollow, with dark shadows under them from lack of sleep. Her lips seemed pulled down in a permanent frown, her ears also dropping. Her gorgeous dress, once fitted perfectly, now was hanging off of her, as if she had put off eating for far to long. Her hair seemed unkempt and her tails looked as if they hadn't been brushed in quite some time. In short, Neko looked as if something had been haunting her.

"If I could take that day back..." Neko's voice cracked and she coughed hard, having kept to herself for so long that she was unused to talking. "If I could take that day back, I would. No matter the price. The truth is that he refused me a simple request and in a fit of childish anger and stress I took repayment from him in blood." The tainted elder stopped again, hurriedly wiping her eyes with the back of her hand.

"To think that I could've done something like that to ANYONE, let alone a friend..." she just trailed off, her hand still over her eyes.

Armand gazed at the wound, a curious smile hitting the side of his lips. "Your awarness is impeccable. I'm actually surprised your next move wasn't to automatically attack me." he stepped forward again, the clinking of his metal heeled boots strangely haunting, as was his dread giving Aura.
"I am world weary, young lady. and my thirst as well as my blade is satiated." he sighed and looked up, dropping his guard completely. teh wind blew his coat around him, the large rapier at his side glinting, and his twin revolvers clearly visible. All seven feet of his slim, yet broad shouldered body was anchored to the ground as if he was unable to leave nature without weeping. "Other then that... scrape.... how are you this lovely night, miss?"

The man was armed, and far larger than Kalan's five foot two self. Larger people always made Kalan uncomfortable, but this time her unsteadiness was justified. The girl stood relaxed, covering easily that each hand was near a hidden dagger. She had underestimated a vampire once, one claiming it meant no harm, and he had utterly destroyed her defense and escaped with the life of a young girl as the result. The man in front of her obviously knew he was intimidating to any normal creature, and was using it to his advantage. He was clever. And it wasn't only his build that was daunting. A looming darkness was spread about him. His presence felt, 'off' with the light feeling of freedom and wild around the park. Kalan, being in tune with this sort of thing, felt it. She could tell he was fairly old and experienced just by being close.

"I'm not sure weather I should be thankful for the compliment, or angry about the generalization. Everyone in this city seems to be stuck on violence." Kalan's eyes flickered downward, judging the distance between them and, not liking the results, inched away a step pretending to lean back to see the moon clearer. "I suppose I'm alright. Waiting for my companion, who's taking a rather long time. Y usted?" The Spanish accent she had heard earlier brought about all new possibilities. She could find out how old he was by how he spoke the language, having studied many foreign languages at a young age.

Had Eden been capable of the childishness bestiality that Neko had reigned down and unleashed upon her brother as if consequences were nothing more than worthless flies, small enough to bat away with the flick of a single finger the hunter leader likely would have attacked the animalian elder by now. However, she'd grown enough to realize that one death was capable of rupturing an entire community, shredding apart a family as if they were some unwanted documents thrown into a shredder or destroying an entire other life connected to the one taken as if it were a simple battered teddy bear being torn completely apart in a fit of momentary rage. This was why Edith was so adamant on her hunters only hunting those who wronged and were too far gone not to commit the act again even if issued warning as opposed to termination. Hunting out of anger never resulted in good judgment or execution, even she was guilty of it and aware of this from first hand experiences. This was also why Meredith had not simply opened fire on Neko simply because the tainted elder had quite possibly taken her big brother away from her permanently.

Eden wished to know why first and whether or not the elder cared or realized just what she had done and what it had done not only to her but to the hunters, to hers and Wills family, to Eden. The emotional turmoil would certainly be capable of pushing her over the edge and causing her to react out of emotion as opposed to sense. For now, though, she was able to hold it together and remember that she represented more than just herself here. These were vulnerable grounds upon which she would have to tread cautiously lest she detonate a mine which would engulf both herself and Neko in nothing but hatred and suffering. It was as if she were a prankster that'd emmersed herself in the tedious work of planning and setting up a trip wire and now that there was a wire there, her emotions urged her to trip it. Her conscience, however, seemed to have kicked in as well upon being there to witness the suffering of the poor creature to trip her wire and now she fougth between tripping it or dismantling it entirely.

Meredith's expression did not alter from anger to pity for the elder had brought her suffering upon herself as a result of her hastily made decision based upon her own emotions and had brought far more suffering to others. Eden would not tread that same path, play monkey see, monkey do, she was better than that. "It would be the 'human' thing to do as you other races love to blabber, for me to get back at you by massacring your race now that the hunters are under me. But luckily for you I don't fit those stereotypical descriptions. Many of you non-hunters love blabbering to us how we're so greedy, how we are killers but you seem to forget that you meet the hunter, not the personal side of us. All of us are capable of forgiveness, of letting things go and we hunt fair game that deserves to be hunted. Hunting isn't just some game where we et to claim that we are the super heroes so it's alright to kill. No one wants to kill but if we don't then who will, you know? Someone has to do the dirtier, shadier work so we've stepped up to the plate. Anyhow I guess what I'm trying to say is that I will never stoop to your level and take someone away from you unless they give me a reason to."

It was clear that the hunter leader was somewhat rambling while attempting to prove a point that she thought was important and wanted Neko to understand while not breaking down in front of her. Upon hearing, though, that Neko wished she would take it back and would give anything to unreap the seeds she had already sewn the gesture fell flat with Meredith minus some relief that she felt guilty and horrible. At the very least she possessed some humanity, a conscience, whatever she wanted to call the trait. "At least," Meredith commented rather coldly while glaring now at the ground, "you feel bad about it. That's probably more than I can say for certain individuals that head their races ..." It was clear that Neko was not going to get sympathy from Meredith in regards to the state the animalian elder was in, though, seeing as her attacking Will had been her own choice and no one had made her savagely brutalize him but her so she wasn't about to feel bad for her. It was relieving to see, though, that she did possess a conscience and clearly regretted that she had hurt Will provided she was not just lying and attempting to appease Edith.

Meredith burned with anger upon hearing Neko's comment but she decided to keep a leash on her emotions and simply keep her response very short but very cold and heart-stopping. "And all of you wonder," she said as she slipped her hands into her jean pockets, "why so many of you are hunted. And have the nerve criticize us for what we do ..." With that comment left to haunt Neko's thoughts the new replacement leader, the younger sister of the man that Neko had mauled, turned a cold shoulder to the elder and simply walked away, deciding to be the bigger person. While she was not going to take out her anger on Neko she was going to let the animalian know that while hunters tended to be judgmental so did all of the races. Not everyone from every race was bad and Will had not been one of the bad guys by any means. She still couldn't wrap it around her head how Neko had been capable of lashing out at a friend in such a way simply because they hadn't given her what she wanted. Was she a child? Whatever, Eden was done. If the elder wanted to defend herself she wasn't getting the chance, Meredith's judgment had been passed by the very words to escape the animalian elder herself.

"Mal, senorita... Que Linda el noche, y que feo mi corazon." He looked back down from the heavens. His arms were limp at his sides, the long and dark brown hair of his head and his draping long-coat the only things that seemed remotely human. He wasn't ugly, yet that darkness seeped from his heart and made the shadows around his eyes all the more creepy. an odd character he was, sad eyes that pierced the soul, a cold touch that longed for warmth. he had been part of the night for far too long, but was too stubborn to give in yet.
"I come from a noble lineage... And other then that, all you need to know to make you stop acting so hostile.... is that i have NEVER killed a woman who did not deserve to rot in the pits of hell. never slayed a man that i didn't enjoy feeling the life drain from his devil-touched hands, and never harmed a youth in any way, shape, or form. that is how i was raised in Espana. that is how i rise every night. with the glory and pride of my accomplishments as a gentleman. I have learned the piano and violin to the point of perfection and boredom, watched empires crumble and treason go without just punishment."

By now there was an odd, half crazed look on his face, an unsettling grin of perfectly white teeth and a look that a lycan would be jealous of. "SO go ahead... attack me and my ugly heart... See if It does you any good to be unladylike int he presence of an elder. i will not pull rank on you, young one, but watch your tongue, you may find that polite formalities get you farther in unlife then brash blade swinging." He sighed nad calmed down, still unmoving, still looming over her.

Kalan had listened curiously as he spoke, wanting to gain more insight about his age, but quickly became aware of more than just that. He had a temper so it would seem. A light came into his eyes that didn't sit well with Kalan. She felt an emotion not her own creeping up on her. It was a combination of the tugging in her chest, telling her to move, and the flashes of anger that she could feel from him.

Kalan was not oblivious, and would normally look for the best in people, but every part of her, and every instinct rebelled against her mind, telling her to run. Even so, she knew nothing was truly wrong. It was a strange unsettling feeling. Life was a game. She knew he couldn't really kill her. It wasn't even a possibility. Not when she was this close. It would hurt of course, but even if by chance he slaughtered her she would only revive, taking on the vampire's power of healing. That was something she had little control over. Something she had gained from her own noble birth. So no matter the situation, Kalan had always approached with the unbridled curiosity of a child, and the awareness of a gentle mother, knowing that if she made an error she could just click 'redo' and try again, learning what to say, and how to act. She was conscious of others feelings always, being an empath and a social genius.

But when he rose his voice, and accused her of being hostile, she became nervous, shrinking back a bit. She had made no threatening move towards him, or even revealed that she carried any weapons at all. She had been careful of her proximity and had taken steps to stay out of his reach, but she had not made one offensive motion. Even her tone was soft and polite. She was a girl out at night in New York alone. One such as herself was only expected to be cautious. His outburst confused her and had made her seriously question his sanity. She had been speaking and behaving as if she were dealing with someone sane, but if he wasn't all there, then anything could have set him off.

The look of innocent confusion slowly left her face, as she stared him back seriously. Speaking softly but sternly, she said, "Please don't stand so close to me. You should know that its rude to speak to a lady in such a fashion. A gentleman wouldn't behave in this manner." She slid away from him again, putting about a yard's distance between her and his person. As soon as she was at a comfortable distance her face lightened again, and she smiled faintly tilting her head to one side. "So you enjoy music? Its one of my few passions as well. I love piano, but I cant stand to play others work, so I make my own." Her eyes drifted to the trees dreamily. "My elder sister plays the violin too. I remember that it sounded so beautiful... but I haven't seen her in a long time.."

'how quickly we change our tone when we feal threatened.' Armand thought and chuckled to himself.

"The curse of muscicianship i suppose." he said almsot smiling as well, gathering his longcoat around him again to hide his weapons. "A gentleman i am not.. but.. gentlevampyre i am, miss." He continued, walking unthreateningly towards her. his stature the only intimidating factor as he walke dover and sat on thebench she once occupied.

Now that Kalan had demonstrated her boundaries, she felt a bit calmer. But the fact remained: he had been harsh towards her unprovoked. She wasn't prepared to blindly trust a potential lunatic. Asher always told her to be more careful. If what he said was true, then he was a vampire with morals, a rational being of logic and compassion. But his actions spoke differently of him. Kalan stayed her distance, tiredly watching his movements. He was graceful, like most all of his kind, and his steps made no sound apart from a light clinking. The sound of metal.

She listened to the sound, forming the rhythm of the lullaby in her mind. Kalan wanted to hum it, but felt out of place watching him. Responding when appropriate, her light eyes glanced down the pathway. "I see." She half whispered. Fireflies glowed beyond the trees, showing sparks of light.

Rizu dusted himself off quickly, his face returning to a much more placid and calm and generally human look. He sighed to himself before rubbing his head against the end of his gun, what in the world was going on with this city. Did no one believe in keeping up the masquerade(ref) of secracty anymore? Rizu placed his gun at his side and turned to walk off, leaving his attacker standing looking like some sort of fool. He really hated people like that and was abit peeved with himself for falling pray to it. People whom just enjoyed fighting so they went around fighting and scraping for no reason just to show off what little talent that they had. How come people could not just mind there own business? Everyone always wanted to show others what they could do, it seemed that everyone had something to prove. Rizu thought for a moment about what he would have to prove should the chance come. If he could get someone to understand him perfectly no questions asked what would he express to them? Rizu shook his head before shrugging and proceeding to walk down through the park towards the city. He had no freaking idea what he wanted to do with himself, most of his kind had that pack mentality but he was not really the type for all that. Though he did play a role that would suggest that he did. He was a hunter, or at least thats what he was assigned to the moment he entered the night world. He had been in his share of fights but he had never truely been on a hunt that was worth considering usefull. He wondered if it was because he was always alone, sometimes he thought that maybe it would have been better if he had just been a ranger. In any case, this scene was getting boring and the longer he stayed here the more likely it was that the crazy guy with his invisible blades of doom would try and attack him again. Rizu smirked at his own sarcastic thoughts, he folded his arms and trotted off towards the city.

Armand chuckled a little. "do not pretend to know how i think, miss. even I gave that up a long time ago." He said, shifting uncomfortably and grunting as he pulled out his silver ad deep gunmetal blade, the Tetsunoche, who's glinting surface reflected the hidden moonlight, enhancing the shine of the growing moon that shoe on every plant and in every shadow around. Armand looked at his weapon as a man looking at a long lost lover.
he leaped into action, sprinting a few steps forward and going through the well practiced paces of a fencing routine. a fencing routine using a thick bladed, yet somehow still elegant cutlass. kicking up a good amount of grass as he slide to a stop, his cloaking long-coat shifting behind him, revealing the elegant scabbard that once held the blade.
left foot pirouette to a right handed jab and a slash backwards through the sky, splitting the grass in a perfect arch. the blade flipped between his hands, from a regular grasp to a backhanded grasp and back again, an aura of silver flashes slithered around him as his serpent-like arm movements saw him pause, sheath the sword, and an ethereal wind caused by all the blades flew up around him for but a moment. and in that naked light, his aura of dark, crazed hate dissipated to one more akin to a romance writer... a gentleman's visage shoe through the maddening sadness.
"You know it's sad... senorita... i can't walk down the street without some punk trying to mug me. and of course i will not give in... but of course, as a vampire, he might as well be attacking a tiger. as a vampire, i cannot function int he human world, but growing up in 1400's Esapna, i cannot leave it be." he chuckled, speaking to himself more then to kalan.

He looked over to her, smiling, his hand still backwards on the sheathed swords ebony and silver handle.

"I pretend nothing. Just what are you playing?" She raised one eyebrow watching as he stood. His footing was precise, in the practiced dance of fencing. Certainly he was a master of the art. The way his weapon glinted in the moonlight, it seemed almost magical. Her quick eyes followed the stances and attacks as he showed his form. Kalan enjoyed watching the sport. It had been a family tradition to master the sword, and so she was quite adapt at swordplay herself. But the man before her, the way he held the blade in his palm securely, easily trading it from hand to hand, he had almost achieved complete perfection. She could feel the ancient anguish flow from him. One who had tried everything stood before her, as Kalan watched from the street lights, unmoving.

She watched him openly, her childish face, and knowing blue eyes expressing patience. She was waiting. Calmly watching, and waiting. Her light hair, still pulled back into a high pony tail, shone as a striking contrast to the pitch night behind her. And the small girl stood relaxed, despite the display just across from her. Perhaps it was the blood of the ancient Celtic warrior women, long past ancestors, that gave her fearlessness in the face of such people, such a world. She was gentle, but prepared, just like her father had taught her to be.

She smiled back, her cheeks still warm from the passing fever of the night before. For some reason or other the man reminded her of a young boy. Confused and upset, but trying to be mature. The impression was a silly one, especially for a vampire, but it made her smile nonetheless. "Why do you think you can't function?" She said quietly. "Everything, every creature in this world plays a part in life. Each has a meaning and a purpose. Have not found yours yet?"
PostPosted: Sat Sep 05, 2009 7:26 pm

"maybe I'm living backwards. maybe living this long has made me senile and I'm reverting to a child again. Maybe I've been driven mad from all the blood and the constant pressure of having to watch my back. I have killed my fair share of Vampires who crossed me. and not without remorse, for their reasons were NEVER founded in fact... hotblooded trigger and blade-happy scoundrels no better then common thieves. thieving blood and energy from the mortals who somehow seem to survive despite the fact there are more and more vampires every day." He smiled a bit and finally took his hand off the blade.
"SO i guess i think i can't function because i no longer feel i should. I've been debating whether or not to just find a nice crypt somewhere in England and sleep For another 200 years. Its a bit like asking a masked man his identity... no matter the answer, once the mystery is gone, then there is nothing left to enjoy." He felt a slight chill in the air and gathered his collar around him.
"All this ranting.. you must think me some sort of escaped mental patient rather then a duke of old Spain." He stated, staring into her eyes. a piercing gaze that somehow sat just behind the retina heavily.
" I Do not enjoy the fact my presence makes others uncomfortable, yet I know it is so."

"Your words fall on ears that do not need your message. I am far too human....far too 'weak,' as some elders would say, to let loose my true wild side and be the nemesis you so plainly wish me to be." As Meredith walked away, the elder dug her long, sharp claws into the bark of the tree she was standing next to.

"I never once criticized your kind, your people, and in reality, held you all in the highest regard. I had a beloved friend in your ranks, until he turned traitor on me and shot me in the back...literally." Tears fell from Neko's eyes, knowing now that none could see her. "Not even my beloved Asmodai can take away the pain I feel.

She climbed back up into the tree, tears still streaming down her face. She knew what she had to do now, how to cement an alliance between the Tainted and the Hunters to prevent a blood feud to span centuries from happening and to protect all of them from the wild and unpredictable vampires.

She would find a way to revive William Jackson from his coma.

A glimmer of red light manifested itself from behind a medium sized tree, as well as the sound of wind being sucked into the source of the strange light. The light grew brighter at first, then darker and more malicious: A portal had opened from the depts of Hell.

The light grew darker and darker, until it was black, like the darkened souls that the Underworld had imprisoned inside it. The black colored energy that was once light, grew and grew, until the tree, along with a park bench, were engulfed inside it. For a moment, the energy stopped growing, and screams could be heard from inside it, screams of countless souls being tortured and mutilated. Then a figure, a dark figure at that, stepped out of the darkness. He had a somewhat troubled look on his face. Once his figure was completely out of the Dark energy that was the portal, the blackened energy began to cave in within itself, and then completely disappeared, causing a quick rush of wind to spread throughout the area.

Shinigami had returned.

He took a quick look around, taking in the scenery, for he was used to the black firey pits of Hell. It had been long, too long, since he had returned to Earth. Shinigami held an expressionless face.

His body was covered in black hellish strands of material formed in hell, a sort of cloth, which covered his entire body save for his head and right shoulder. On that exposed shoulder, a tattooed symbol of demonic writing glowed with a darkness. Blackened angel wings stuck out of his back, which were large and sort of transparent, for in this world, only non humans could see them. A Katana hung from his side, but was not strapped on or anything. It appeared as if it was tied to his waist by invisible string. A sort of gas mask covered his mouth, and a tube that was connected to it, led to its source: his own chest. Semi long black hair covered his head, unkempt.

He took a step forward, his body emitting steam from stepping through the portal from Hell.

His devilish eyes looked around him once again, visualizing the city in relentless flames of Hell.

He sensed another of his kind nearby, a strong one at that. Must have been a leader of the Tainted that reside in this pathetic excuse for a city.

He made no attempt at locating the Tainted Leader. Instead, with the snap of his finger, shadow formed around him, and solidified into a large, leather trench coat, hiding his true appearance. By this time, the steam stopped emitting from his body, which was now a little hotter than the temperature of the night air.

He was completely silent, and made his way out of central park.

Flashes of memories came back to her. The elaborate trail of pictures and emotions forming the complete painting that only she could understand. Kalan recalled all of those who had committed suicide or became lifeless shells of their former selves all because they had lost interest or reason in life. It made her involuntarily jump, the thought of another one being before her. "You cant!" She blurted out, stuttering for a moment. She had responded too quickly, without thought, and was now left in a flurry trying to regain her control over the urge to rescue. "I mean.. you should live life, no matter how long. Even when its painful, you need to.." She trailed off, dropping her eyes to the ground. Wonderful. Now she had made herself vulnerable to embarrassment. She relaxed, drawing back again and keeping her eyes to the ground. "Because.. even if you don't mean to, or if you don't want to.. you effect those around you.. Its something unconscious at times but..." She remembered seeing her loved ones wander around, empty. Broken. And the uncontrollable pain she herself had felt, at understanding, but not being able to do anything. She had been left helpless. She was useless against such a state of loss. It hurt, and the scars had been deep. "But it makes all the difference, just being there you have made an impact." Kalan could feel her face getting warmer, and she felt dizzy.
