"Yeah, just... one second." Toby disappeared downstairs and came back with a box of tissues and a cup of milky, sugary tea. He made the call from her bedside and it was confirmed. Lori could help, but he'd need a ride home.

Lori arrived not a half hour later and followed Dari to the bedroom. He really hadn't believed it, but he saw it, and he would feel it. If Maia had a human ailment... well, it could only mean one thing, and it would be one of the most exciting developments in several years for the FBPI. If a half-selkie existed, they were going to have to reconsider all of the old stories. There'd need to be a new entry into the species database. It could be huge.

"Hey, Maia. How're you feeling? Not good?" He sat down on the bed. Being fae, he was immune to human illness. He wasn't worried. Even Toby wasn't at risk. He could catch the illness but his immune system would fight it off before it could do any damage, and Dari? As far as anyone knew, Dari couldn't get sick at all. "This is probably gonna be a little weird for you. Have you ever gone to a healer before?" A magical healer, of course.

Maia immediately reached for Dari's hand. He couldn't get whatever this was, could he? He was water proof, fireproof, he had to be germ proof.

She was frowning when Lori spoke, taking a tissue and blowing her nose into it. "No," she said. "Not good. And no, I haven't." Except those doctors when she'd first come into Arizona.

Dari moved to sit beside Maia and let her have his hand. Toby was still curled up on the bed beside her.

"Okay. Well. It's not like a normal doctor," Lori began as he rubbed his hands together, "I'm going to have to make a lot of physical contact. The less clothes you have on the better it'll work, which sounds like I'm coming into you but I swear I'm not." He smiled, trying to keep the mood light. "You could keep your clothes on too, but I'll have to work under them. Nowhere sensitive, just maybe your upper chest." Then, most importantly: "It doesn't hurt, it just feels a bit strange. You might feel warm, you might feel a tugging or a rising sensation. You might feel the need to breathe differently or move in some way and that's fine as long as you don't break contact. If I do it right, if this is what I think it is, we should be able to get it right out. There's no needles, no blood, no nothing. Just some shiny lights." He wiggled his fingers in a way that generally meant 'magic.' "It'll probably be easier if you lay down?"

Toby reached out for Maia. Maybe she'd like to lay down in his lap? He wasn't worried about the whole clothes thing. He'd seen Lori work before and there was nothing sexually gratifying in it for him. There was a reason he'd need a ride home. Besides, there was no question as to Lori's sexuality and Maia wasn't exactly his type.

Maia rubbed an eye with her fist. No, that definitely didn't sound like a normal doctor. She let go of Dari's had to stare at Lori. The less clothes she had on the better? She hadn't changed out of her pajamas; she did let the blanket drop from her, though.

No pain, no needles, no blood--there had to be a catch. "Will you be alright?" She asked, and held up a finger with one hand while she coughed. "Toby said there's medicines for this."

She scooted towards Toby when he reached for her.

"Yeah, of course," Lori nodded, then waited for the couching spasm to stop, "I can't catch things like this. Besides, there's treatments but no cure.

Toby gently pulled Maia down to lay her head in his lap and softly moved her hair behind one shoulder.

"Alright, are you ready?" Lori asked, holding his hands up.

Oh good, Maia hadn't wanted to get Lori sick. She rested her head in Toby's lap and nodded at Lori. No cure sounded miserable, but Toby had seemed to imply that they didn't last long. "Ready," she said.

It had been a little while since Lori had healed anything aside from goldfish, and they didn't need skin-to-scale contact. Plus he hadn't been removing ailments, just improving health. His mother would be proud of him for still using his skills. Less so about dating a man, he was sure.

"Okay, I'm going to start down here..." Lori's voice was soft and soothing and he put his hands under the collar of Maia's pajama shirt (one he recognized as Toby's) and touched her bare chest. He closed his eyes, entered a conscious trance, and the magic began to flow. It was in fact a soft white glow and Maia may feel any of the prescribed sensations as he drew the sickness out, beginning in her chest and the moving up to her face and out. The 'out' involved the most concentration and Toby and Dari were knowingly silent. The entire process took five minutes or so. Lori was a bit pale then, breathing a bit oddly. "All done," he said.

"Can I get you something? Water?" Toby asked.

"That's be fantastic," Lori said with a nod and a soft smile and then he turned down to Maia as Toby left the room. "Feeling better?"

"Now you're sick," Maia frowned at Lori in concern. She gave him a gentle hug. "I'm okay. Thank you." Now he needed to go home and get some rest! "I'll text Luca so he's there," she added, looking for her phone and reaching for it. She picked it up and quickly texted Luca.

Lori took the phone from Maia's hands hurriedly before she could text him. "No, it's fine."

"I'm giving him a ride home," Dari said with a nod.

"He'll worry. He doesn't need to worry," Lori said. He thanked Toby as he returned with the water and took a sip. "So. Maia. Do you have any idea how you may have caught a human cold?"

Maia frowned at Lori and reached for her phone. She looked to Dari and nodded. Good. Once Lori was gone then, she'd text Luca. She shrugged at his question. "No clue. I'm selkie, and fae aren't supposed to get sick."

"Maia, is there any chance you might be a hybrid?" Of course this could bring up horrible questions about her past and her family and might shatter her reality, but there was no other explanation he could think of. "If you have a human half, you could get a cold, but we've never found a half-selkie before."

Maia stared. "...no?" she began, looking around the room. Well. That'd certainly explain her father's anger towards humans... Had she been the product of selkie love? "Maybe?" she amended. "My mother knew an awful lot about humans, but my father seemed to hate them. That'd explain that." But if they'd never found a half selkie before, how rare were they? "But there's stories about selkies falling in love and having children."

"Of course," Lori said with a nod, "but those children are always human... I mean, at least as far as we know. Nobody's ever mentioned a half-selkie existing, but I think you may be one, Maia, and that is very exciting."
PostPosted: Sat Dec 12, 2015 4:49 pm

Maia paused. Exciting. "Maybe?" she wasn't sure she wanted to be exciting. "I don't know, Lori. Both of my parents were selkies, the father I knew was." She climbed out of bed. "I'll make you something to eat," she offered.

Lori took Maia's arm softly. His movements were sluggish. He laughed.

"No, Maia, I'm not hungry. Do you think you'd be willing to take a few tests back at HQ? Just to know for sure. I'm not saying your father isn't your father. If he's the man who raised you, he is. Genetics has nothing to do with it. It could be important for the Bureau to know, though, if a half-selkie is possible."
