"Only if one of the gods repromotes me, although there's always the last resort..." Van said as he held Mala's hand, looking down at the old ring that he could use to seal Atius up if he had to.

"We should befriend the other gods, then. Turn them against Atius. That way, we don't only get your godhood back - we also have a chance to give Atius a taste of his own medicine..." Mala suggested after a moment of thought, grinning wickedly now.

(('grumbly wickedly'...? Oh, 'grinning wickedly'? biggrin ))
"I'm sure I'll have plenty of chances once I get up there..." Van said with dread before he winced, a jolt of pain shooting through his back as the bulges on his back suddenly doubled in size. "s**t, this is gonna suck..." he said as he let go of Mala, managing to stand up despite his body wanting to double over in pain.

{Edited.}
"Is there anything I can do to make it better? To relieve any pain?" Mala asked, feeling pretty useless at the moment.

"Nope, this should be over soon....It's probably gonna be messy...but brief...." Van said falling to his knees as he gripped his shoulders. The bulges on his shoulders grew again and his skin looked like it was about to give way at any moment. Sure enough, with a cry of pain two pure white, feathered wings burst from his back, stained with blood from the open wound they'd caused. Van was left panting slightly as he dropped to his hands and knees. "...I think I know what childbirth is like now..."

Mala felt like she was about to cry. She felt completely useless, just sitting there and watching her fiancé hurt like this. "I wish I knew healing magic, or at the very least how to make the pain go away some." she murmured, crawling over to the edge of the bed.

"It's actually fairly simple," Alek murmured, pulling aside Val's shirt to expose her neck, then sinking his fangs in. He let out a soft hiss of pleasure as she exposed his neck and did the same. Just when the pleasure was getting unbearable, they both pulled away with simultaneous gasps. "Just like that," Alek said with a smile.
Angel giggled. "Now, Riley! Riley! We have to show Van and Lala your new self!"

"I thought you couldn't see a difference in how I looked?" Riley said with a chuckle.
"Mala...." Van looked up at her, saddened by the look on her face before he got back to his feet. His back was still hurting, but that was more due to the open wounds around the roots of his wings. "I'm sorry..." he didn't know what else to say as he gave her a big hug. Some god would probably call him away any second now. Now his eyes were starting to water up at thought of being torn away from Mala for who knows how long.

"I would beg you not to go if you had the option. I would make this all go away right now and make everything as it should be if only I knew how." Mala muttured mournfully, returning his hug with full force. "So instead, I'll do whatever I can for you. I'll even help with whatever task they have for you if I possibly could." Tears began to stream down her cheeks now.

"All I can think of I don't want to ask...As a last resort, I'd seal Atius up if he asks me to do something I can't bear to do, but I'd need the ring to do it..." Van said as he moved one hand down to hold her hand tightly. "I hate to ask for it back now, but..." he trailed off. He could already hear faint voices echoing in his head that called for him to come.
((Need to take a shower, I'll try to make it quick.))

Mala gazed at the ring, reluctant to let it go. "I'll only give it to you on two conditions. One, you must get me another as soon as you can. Two....if for some reason you will be separated from me for too long a time, I want you to take me with you."
{Okay.}

Van looked conflicted as he sighed. "Mala, you know I'd love to but...For one thing, you know Atius. He'd just give us both more problems if you were to come along. And besides, I wanted to show you heaven under nicer circumstances, not when I'm getting dragged off to be some winged slave."

"I don't care." Mala stated rather bluntly. "He can throw whatever he likes at me. I'll get through it with ease." After a couple secconds she continued, "But since you won't take me due to other reasons, I won't make you. However, don't expect me to be very happy with you if you are gone for such a long time that I don't see you anymore. I'll never ever forgive you if I end up dying of old age while you're up there."

"I can promise you that I won't be gone that long." Van said with a meek smile. "I'll come down when and if I can, but I'll definitely try to get out of this as soon as possible. I'll also try to find you the nicest ring imaginable, a thousand--no, a million times nicer than this old thing." he said as he slowly, and rather sadly, pulled the ring from her finger. "I still love you, and I still plan on marrying you someday, ring or no ring." he said before giving her a nice long kiss, not knowing when he'd be back. He looked up, the voices in his head growing louder and more impatient. "I...have to go..." he said sadly as he slowly backed away from her, holding onto her hand as long as he could before vanishing in a flash of light, leaving a few stray feathers to slowly flutter down to the ground where he once stood.

Mala caught one feather before it hit the ground and gazed at it, feeling empty and alone for the first time in so long. She let herself sit on the edge of the bed in an eery silence. She knew all too well Van would go through Hell and back on the vindictive gods' command, which made her feel utterly ill when she realized some of the things they may come up with. Clearing her mind, for her own sake, Mala kissed the feather lightly and murmured, "No matter what happens, Van, I still love you. Please come back soon..."
