Maia fell silent, clearly she'd forgotten that. "You can make me one," She said. "My favorite is chocolate, too." She smiled at him. "Let's do something together on my birthday."
"I think it has a happy ending," Luca said, smiling at Lori.

Toby grinned and nodded. "Of course. Any idea what you'd like to do?" Hopefully in the next few months Maia would forget she had told him anything.
"You think so?" Lori asked, shifting to get a better look at Luca. He missed the extra bodily contact immediately. He hesitated to respond simply out of fear.
"I think so too."

"Ice skating," Maia suggested. She smiled and watched the fire, then looked to Dari. Was he having fun?
Luca smiled at Lori, leaning against him again. "I think so. What do you see in the fire?"

Toby nodded. Sure, that was good for that time of year. "I definitely think we can do that."
Lori turned toward the fire, and then looked up at the smoke. What did he see? Nothing. Nothing unusual anyway. Something beautiful. Something fiery.
"I see you."

Maia smiled. "You'll be the first to take me ice skating." Toby loved firsts, he'd told her. There we're plenty more things she'd never dine, she was sure.
"Me?" Luca was surprised, and looked into the flames. He couldn't see it. "I'm glad we found each other," He said.

Toby had thought that'd be a first. He smiled and nodded.
Lori kissed Luca's cheek again. "So am I."

A week has passed and Toby woke up with a breath of fresh air and stretched out. Mmmm. He looked so forward to weekends now. He got to spend them with a girlfriend now, not only his best friend.

Maia didn't stir as usually did when Toby awoke, only moving slightly as a cough escaped her. That woke her, looking to Toby and smiling slightly. "Good morning love," She said, and coughed again, covering her mouth this time.

Hm.
"You okay, sweet thing? That doesn't sound good." It didn't sound like a morning choke, whatever that was. It sounded wet and sick.

Maia nodded. She was fine. "I'm alright. Just stuffy." She lifted a hand to muss his hair, the one she didn't use to muffle her cough. "Think I might stay in bed," She added, completely contrary to the nod. She coughed again and burrowed in their blankets.
She sneezed. Ugh. What was this?

...what? Had she caught a... ... what could she even catch? Fae could be sickened by magic, but there was no magic here. Some could suffer from broken hearts, but he was pretty sure that wasn't Maia. So he was confused. His poor love looked snotty and uncomfortable.
"Hon, I think you might have a cold?" But how?

Maia peered out of the blankets at him. A cold? "Is that what this is?" She asked. "But fae--" She sneezed, "don't get colds!"

"Yuh, I'm well aware," Toby replied, nodding. He reached out to touch her forehead, but didn't find her especially warm. "Love, you have a cold." What did this mean? This was a human sickness, of that there was no doubt. She wasn't wasting away, she hadn't gone blind or catatonic... she had a cold.
"Has this ever happened before?"

"A couple times when I was little," Maia admitted. She sneezed again. "I didn't pay it much attention. People would say allergies but I don't think fae have those either." She reached for his hand. "How do you cure a cold?"

Toby had the feeling that Maia didn't really understand the implications of her having a cold. That was fine. She was miserable enough; he didn't need to add more stress to the situation.
"There isn't a cure. I got them all the time back before. There's things you can take to feel better during the day or at night but you just kind of have to let it run its course." He frowned and stroked Maia's arm. He'd go out and get her some Dayquil and Nyquil and make her some soup and-- "Actually. Actually, I know a healer. I just have to check if he can help with human ailments. Do you want me to make a call?"

Run its course? That sounded miserable. And if this was a cold, and fae didn't get colds, what did that say about her?
"Going to call Lori?" she guessed. She burrowed further into her blanket, sneezing again.
