Spam Fire Warriors and Kroot in cover, make your commander good against enemy vehicles and maybe use some Stealth Suits for annoyance factor.

good 1500 pt army? I don't know how much I'd have, but last time I used small list of farsight, 5 BG, all with weapons ranging from FB-Plasma-Missle pod-Burst cannons. None twin linked, I believe. On top of that, I used two broadsides, one or two hammer heads, some firewarriors, and then my pathfinders. It worked REALLY nicely. Took care of the enemy very nicely. At least, I believe it was close to 1500-1800. I don't remember what I had exactly, but that's close. Against SM, it was no contest for me. Cleaned the board in 2 hours tops.

Battlesuits can really mess people up if they're not expecting it, but you can bet they'll be singled out in the rematch.

Are Tau really herbivores? I heard mention of it in another thread, and was wondering if it was referenced in the codex.

DarkElf27 Are Tau really herbivores? I heard mention of it in another thread, and was wondering if it was referenced in the codex. They are omnivores, seeing as the fire caste is an off-shoot of hunter-gatherer tribes.

Oh, I wouldn't expect anything otherwise. Expect me to be using them a bit more intelligently in the next round.

Duh? You'll be hunting them off the bat with your Fusionbike Autarch and whatever Fire Dragons you can spare, along with the everpresent possibility of Starcannons from your Warwalkers.

Well, I ran Tau again last night. Same 1500 list I've run before (I think it's in the army list review page) against Salamanders of the standard sort. Tac Marines with Flamers, Crusader with Multi-Melta, Multi-Melta Devestators, and Assault Termies with Vulkan He'stan at the forefront.
The battle ended up being Annihilation with Dawn of War deployment. My Shas'O and 2x Fire Warriors vs Vulkan and two squads of Tacs. The fire warriors got some hot shooting and killed about half of each Tac squad first turn as the rest of the units barreled on. From there, I tried to keep pressing forward and pushing my firepower advantage, mostly because I had a 2-1 outnumber going in my favor. My Railguns just...couldn't make a kill. My broadsides had three turns of both of them missing, even with TL. It ended up a 5-3 victory for my opponent when, in the last turn, Vulkan and his Assault Termies were just barely able to get into assault with my Shas'O and his retinue.

so bought the beginner set so I have two XV8 battle suits, one battle suit commander 1 ethereal 2 kroot carnivore squads, 2 fire warrior squads 1 stealth squad 1 devilfish and one hammerhead gunship. I'm debating between getting Commander shadow sun or ordering one of the special battlesuits throguh forge world... any recomendations... (( ps. the commander's head is weak and can fall off easily so I can make him a battle suit easily)) as well do the Knarloc riders and greater knarloc are they worth it? if I get the special battle suit I'll be getting those too.

Most FW battle suits follow the same rules found in codex: Tau Empire with exception of SHAS'O R'MYR'S, whose rules can be found in Imperial Armour 3. Same goes for Knarloc riders and the greater Knarloc. So keep in mind that their rules can be found in Imperial Armour 3.
In regards to the metal head of your commander: pin it in place before glueing it.

The Forgeworld variants are kind of hit or miss. The XV-89 looks the coolest, but it's also the most useless, as Iridium Armor provides the same effect for cheaper. About the only use for it would be to have two HQ suits with 2+ saves. The Markerlight variant is useful, but it's often an agonizing choice on whether to shoot the Markerlight or make use of the commander's BS and fire a second weapon. I'm especially fond of the Smart Missile variant suit, but it's downfall is that it can't equip non-hardwired support systems, only weapons. So no Shield Generator, and no Vectored Thrusters. I usually lose him to a lascannon or Powerfist because of the lack of an invul. Shadowsun is a fantastic model, but her rules are kind of naff. If you want to take the time for it, buy her model and convert it to represent one of the Forgeworld variants or even just a standard suit.
