Luca raised a hand to play with Lori's hair, twirling a strand of hair gently. "I'd invite you to stay the night," he said, "But I'm sure Rosie would miss you. Bring her next time?"

Lori was simultaneously made soft and mushy inside and was also reminded he should get a hair cut. The curls were getting a bit long. At least they weren't unruly.
"Sure," he said. His voice was soft and he leaned forward to kiss Luca on the lips briefly. It had been so nice the first two times... "Or you could come over my place. I could sleep on the couch." Or they could share a bed was the implication there.

He returned the kiss, giving Lori a smile when it broke. "Sleep on the couch? Why?" Luca asked. Couldn't they sleep together? "Bed's more comfortable."

"Well, I wasn't sure how you felt about sharing a bed," Lori admitted. Some people considered it a go-ahead for sex. He personally did not, and now he thought it was safe to assume that Luca didn't either.

Lori had been trying his damndest to keep the mood light while he drove Luca, Rosie and Seamus to the party. As he got out and around to grab Rosie's leash, Seamus hopped out of the front door behind Luca and headed for the door.
"You don't have to remember anyone's names, though. Just the blonde guy is Toby, and you know Maia, then the--" Black guy? Err, no. That could cause some confusion. "The one with the glowing eyes, that's Dari."
Rosie hopped out of the back seat and Lori grabbed the alcohol.
"Dog or booze?" Because he could only carry one.
Seamus meanwhile was yowling at the door. He was told there would be Maia, and also there would be cake, and to him that was the perfect combination.

Glowing eyes? Luca was intrigued and he hadn't even met the guy. "I'll take Rosie," he said, reaching for the leash. He smiled at Lori, kissing his cheek. "I'll be fine. If you're friends are as awesome as you are, we won't have any trouble getting along."
Maia heard Seamus, but as she was currently offering Toby a spoonful of frosting--she'd made too much for the cake she'd made. She'd finished frosting it to find the bowl still had around half remaining.
"Dari, can you get the door?"

Lori smiled and shook his head. "Flatterer."
Rosie took up her spot next to Luca easily and skipped up the stairs with him. Lori shifted the bag in his arms to knock.
Meanwhile, Toby had taken a bit of the frosting on his lips, then heard the knock. Maia suggested Dari get it and Toby laughed slightly. "He can't get it!" Silly Maia! The street would see a black alien in the doorway! He gave Maia a thumbs-up, though, and went for the door.
Dari was stationed well out of the view of the street in the dining room, seeing as to how people would be arriving and the door would be open. He stood curiously and held a finger out. Could he try some frosting too?
Toby opened the door and grinned.
"Hey! Come on in!"
He stepped aside so the two could enter.
"I come bearing gifts!" Lori replied, hoisting the bottle in his arms.
"Um. You can just put them on the table, I don't think anyone'll be using it much. Come in, come in!"
Seamus made a beeline for Maia immediately. Toby closed the door behind the two and Lori went off to release his burden. Rosie waited patiently to be unhooked from her leash.
"So you're the mysterious new boyfriend, eh?" Toby asked. He held out a hand, grinning in a friendly way, "Toby. Luca, right? There's gonna be another Luca here tonight too."

Maia noticed Dari and refilled the spoon, offering it to him. "You'll like the texture, I think," she said. She'd forgotten he hadn't made up today. Oops.
Luca entered, pausing only to unhook Rosie from her leash. He looked up when Toby spoke to him. "Yeah," He said, giving Toby a slight smile and shaking his hand. "Nice to meet you. Happy birthday!"
Maia, finished offering Dari frosting, bent down to greet Seamus. "Hi kitty! I made a special treat for you."

Dari used his finger rather than his mouth and simply let the frosting absorb. "Hm. The texture is quite nice." He smiled when he saw Seamus and was pretty sure he knew what was coming next.
Seamus put a paw on Maia's leg and meowed at her. A treat? WAS IT CAKE?
Rosie began her usual sniffing tour of the first floor.
Toby took the leash from Luca and hung it up on one of the pegs on the wall. "Hey, thanks! I feel like the oldest man who ever lived but immortality will do that to ya. Make yourself at home. You're the first to arrive. Do you want something to drink?"

"One moment," Maia promised Seamus, picking up the bowl of frosting and headed over to Lori. "Try this," she said, offering a spoonful. "Then come in the kitchen with me. You're the first one here, so you have to taste everything." Because she was sure Toby was a bit biased when it came to her cooking.
"C'mon Seamus! I've got fish for you!"
"Oh no thank you," Luca shook his head, looking around. "You've got a nice place. Oh, your girlfriend's kidnapped Lori."

Lori had just been about to go back and save Luca when Maia accosted him with frosting. "Hold on, I'm being kidnapped." He wasn't sure if anyone heard, but it didn't matter. He took an awkward taste and then followed Maia loyally. "Okay, okay."
Seamus sat down and glared. Fish was not cake. ...still tasty, though, he supposed. Yeah, maybe he'd go get that fish. He could work on cake later. He jogged after Maia after a moment and sat just beside her feet.
"Thanks." Toby continued into the dining room area because that was where all the action seemed to be happening. "That's Maia, and this is Dari." Just casually, as if no one of them was particularly inhuman in appearance. It didn't strike him to give any warning.
Dari smiled and stood, offering a pressurized hand. "Hello."

Maia handed the spoon to him. "I made too much frosting," she admitted. She handed him the bowl and took out a can of tuna for Seamus. She opened it and offered it to him. "Cake later," she promised.
He'd liked that cupcake she'd given him, she was sure he'd enjoy a piece of cake.
"I've met her before," Luca smiled, glancing towards the kitchen and following Toby to the dining room. "Hi Dari," Glowing eyes was right! He took the alien's hand, curiosity blooming. "I'm Luca."

"Oh." Lori took the bowl but wasn't sure what to do with it. Rather than go in hands-first, he took a spoon from the drawer and took another, less awkward bite.
Seamus decided tuna was okay, he guessed. He began to eat, but at the mention of cake he also began to purr. Yes, he approved of this party.
Toby nodded to Luca. "Mm." Then to Maia: "Are you torturing the guests, love?" He saw that look in the elf's eye. He'd leave those two alone.
"It's nice to meet you," the alien said with a nod, "I'm Dari, as he said. I'm his partner."

"No," Maia looked over and smiled at Toby. "I'm feeding them." At least, she wasn't torturing Seamus, anyway. He seemed quite content.
"Lori's agreed to be tastetester," she informed Toby, offering Toby her hand. "Your other guests should be arriving soon."
"You work with him, then?" Luca asked, studying Dari. "Where are you from?" he asked at last.
