Oh. She had meant a real Sand Attack? How silly of him. While Hans was busy rolling his eyes, Rolf suddenly whipped around to kick up sand into the Houndour's face. Hans, being that he was too busy wondering why Kirsa was insisting on keeping the troublesome Pokemon, took the attack full on. He snarled and shook his head, trying to clear his vision. Well, at least they were back on track. For now.
"Try to attack him again, Rolf!" The Poochyena circled around the vision-impaired Houndour, throwing himself against Hans hard enough to send him stumbling. Okay, this wasn't fun anymore. Since when was that little b*****d Poochyena competent enough to actually hit him?! Hans regained his footing and growled rather menacingly, bristling at his teammate. Kirsa sighed and started over to the pair, shutting her Pokedex and slipping it into her pocket for the time being. Yeah, definitely going to be a long day.
"Hans, stand down. Rolf, you too." She highly doubted these two were going to get along any time soon, but that certainly wasn't going to stop her from repeatedly slamming her head against the brick wall of futility and trying to make them train together anyway. "Shake it off, Hans. Once you're ready, we'll start again, but switch it up."

"Really?" Ryka asked happily. She was about to reach down and cursty when she realized that the sleeping Iris was still snuggled in her left arm. Ryka kissed Iris on the forehead before returning her to her poke ball. She then reached down, lifted her skirt a smidge on each side, and bowed her head. "I am very honored to recieve such affection, Allegra."
As Ryka focused back on the screen, she saw that Kasiya was petting something at her feet. As she took a closer look.. could it be? "Twilight!" Ryka exclaimed. Her Umbreon! "You seem to be doing well, Twilight." She watched as Kasiya pet the Umbreon, and was happy to see that he seemed to be enjoying the affection. He didn't usually come out of his hiding places, though. This was new! "He seems to like you a lot, too. It is not very often that he comes up to people, you see!" Ryka smiled. She was happy to see him happy.
"It seems to me that your Pokemon prefer the company of another trainer?" Professor Oak chimed in. He had apparently returned from upgrading Ryka's Pokedex, and now appeared on the screen. "Here you go!" he said to Ryka as he pushed the Pokedex back into the computer. After a small beep, Ryka recieved her Pokedex again.
As Ryka put the Pokedex back into its proper place, Profesor Oak suggested "Why don't you two trade Pokemon? Variety IS the spice of life, you know!" He looked at the two girls surprised, but agreeable expressions, and flashed a smug smile. The Oak-man is always right.

"He came to see me in the yard, too," Kasiya remembered suddenly, when she'd been seated under the apple tree with Flash and Twilight on either side of her. "He and Flash are brothers, aren't they?" she asked, though more to herself than anyone else. When Ryka curtsied, Allegra nearly flipped with excitement. She seemed to love everything about this girl, her outfit, her mannerisms, even the tone of her voice. Kasiya stood as Oak reentered the room, and replaced Ryka's PokeDex in the computer slot before sending it back to her. Kasiya gasped a little when he suggested that they trade Pokemon - she'd never actually traded with anyone before, but for some reason, it seemed like a very good idea. "You're right, Professor," Kasiya said, standing up and walking over to where Allegra was, while keeping a close eye on her Charmander. "Plus trading Pokemon helps to further our friendships." She turned towards the computer screen and smiled at Ryka. "As long as the Pokemon are happy, that's all that matters to me." She scooped the Skitty up in her arms and snuggled her. "If you want to go with Ryka, it's okay with me," she told the Pokemon gently. "Whatever makes you happy."
The kitten gazed up at Kasiya with a look of pure fascination. Never before had she met a human that cared so much for what she wanted. Even when she didn't want to battle, Kasiya didn't get angry at her, not like that boy had... The Skitty shook her head to rid herself of those bad memories and mewed happily. She'd love to go with the pretty girl in the big picture-box! She looked down at the dark-coloured Pokemon that hadn't left Kasiya's side since she'd noticed him, and mewed again to get his attention. "I don't see why not," Kasiya laughed, lightly stroking Twilight's head again. "I'm sure Flash would love it too," she added, thinking about how well the Umbreon and Jolteon got along together. All I need now is an Espeon and a Flareon and I'll have the whole Eevee family, she thought (to the best of her knowledge, anyway), with a slight giggle. She stood up, and looked back at Ryka. "What do you say, Ryka? Wanna trade?"

This too is sacred... Finished with his sandwich, the juicebox empty and the apple core completely gone, Travis had nothing else with which to occupy his mind except memories. A sour grimace ghosted over his face before he reseated himself in his earlier meditation pose; not all memories were good ones. As he sat and revisted with his life the shadows on the walls moved in accordance to the sun and dusk fell outside.
One Week Ago
Travis had been asleep in his room at Rocket headquarters in Vermillion city when a loud knock woke him. Jolted from his sleep he threw back the heavy red and white blanket angrily and stomped to the door in nothing but his boxers. Throwing it open he glared at the Team Rocket member that stood nervously before him and growled "What?"
The Rocket member swallowed and spoke, his voice jittery as he came up from a mid-bow. "S-s-sorry to disturb you, Travis, but the Boss wants to see you right away. H-h-he says it's urgent or he wouldn't have woken you." Everyone at the headquarters in Vermillion knew that waking Travis from sleep was a Bad Idea, as the man wouldn't hesitate to send his Pokemon out after whoever woke him, and Travis *loved* Fighting Pokemon. This junior member was right to quake in his boots. Travis raked his eyes over the other Rocket. "I'll be right there. You have two minutes to find me a hot cup of coffee before I go up." He shut the door in the junior's face and walked across the room to his dresser, pulling out a black-with-red-R tshirt and a pair of black jeans. Socks and shoes followed and he snapped on a belt with his Pokeballs attached; in addition to the Hitmonlee and Mankey, Travis favoured a Poliwrath and a bad-tempered Beedril. A quick swipe through his longish indigo locks with a comb didn't do much for the bedhead but he didn't think the Boss would mind. Marco would know he didn't waste time on a shower.
Three minutes later, coffee in hand, Travis was admitted into Marco's immense presence and seated in a plush chair. Marco looked dishevelled as well and none too pleased to be having a meeting at...Travis checked his watch; four in the morning. The big man leaned back in his chair and folded his pudgy hands over his stomach. "Travis, Giovanni has asked for your particular talents a very sensitive matter. He wants you to break into the Pallet Town Research Center run by Professor Oak and steal all the Pokemon found there, as well as the research. If you have to choose between the two, take the research." Now it was Travis' turn to lean back in the chair, his grey eyes wide. Giovanni was asking for him personally? He quickly hid his surprise and nodded, but Marco had seen the look.
"Come along way from that scared little kid we caught breaking into our joint, haven't you?" The big man laughed and Travis was forced to nod in agreement. "Don't hurt my Pokemon!" he mimicked Travis' youthful voice from 10 years ago. "I'll do anything, just let them go!" He ignored or didn't see the flicker of pain on the theif's face. "HA!" Marco bellowed and leaned across the desk. "We had you so easily. Your skills spoke for themselves I hadn't met anyone that stubborn before. In exchange for two wimpy Pokemon I got the world's greatest Pokemon theif! If you weren't the best, Giovanni wouldn't be asking for you." Travis simply nodded, unable to speak around his clenched jaw, but Marco took it as modesty. "You ARE the best, so you'd better have your a** in Pallet Town in two days and back here with all you can grab or your reputation isn't the only thing you'll lose."
The threat was real; fail Giovanni and you'd be lucky just to be kicked off the Team. Travis finished his coffee and set the cup on a side table then rose to his full height. "Don't worry; like you said, I'm the best. I wont get caught." He flashed Marco a cocky smile as he bowed and left the room, returning to his own quarters to rest and prepare for the journey. ...love as thou wilt

It took a while for Keegan to calm down enough to explain what had happened to the old man, who in turn explained that he'd simply chosen to go on his way when he heard the commotion of the battle behind him, and having nothing better to do had gone back to investigate, stepping in when appropriate. "I'm glad you got out of that in one piece, Sonny, but can't say the same for your Pokemon. C'mon, we'd better get them to the Pokemon Center in Lilycove," the man finished his short tail, and gestured back in the direction of the city. Keegan silently agreed, wanting nothing more but to find a soft bed to crash in. Now that the adrenaline had left his veins the pain from his previous injuries had returned, most feeling as though they'd only just been inflicted. Helios plodded along at Keegan's side, utterly refusing to go back into his Pokeball until he was absolutely certain that all signs of danger had passed, even though he knew the old man could probably wipe the floor with anything that dared cross his path.
The walk back to Lilycove was grueling and seemed to take longer than Keegan remembered, but that might have been because he was dragging his feet, caught somewhere between exhausted and half-dead. Somewhere along the way he managed to coax the irate Ninetales back into his own ball for some much needed rest, and Keegan too couldn't wait until he could take a hot shower, down some pain meds and put himself into a drug-induced coma for a decade or so, and not necessarily in that order. Despite how incredibly rotten he felt his first priority was to get his Pokemon healed and figure out what to do with the newly-caught Skarmory that was still safely tucked into the pocket of his coat, which he patted now and then just to be sure it was still there. Upon arriving at the Pokemon Center, the elderly chap hung back while Keegan stumbled to the front desk and handed four Pokeballs and a Great Ball to the nurse. "They got a little roughed up," he half-mumbled as the nurse took in his battered appearance, though it was contained entirely to his body and not his attire and he could see the curiosity written across her face.
"You look like the one who got roughed up," she remarked, but smiled kindly. "I'll take care of your Pokemon, you take care of yourself."
She gave a polite bow and took the Pokemon away for treatment, and Keegan sighed and staggered away from the front desk, where he fell prostrate into the first empty couch he came across. "Everyone keeps telling me that," he mumbled, voice muffled by the fabric. Granted it wasn't the most comfortable position ever but it would do. His body was already thanking him immensely for finally getting off his feet. ===== Miharu and Sparkle walked along at a fairly leisurely pace, neither seeming to care that they didn't really have a destination in mind. For once the Flaaffy was relatively quiet as she kept pace beside her green-haired trainer, which Miharu didn't realize right away. It wasn't until a stray Pidgey fluttered past overhead that she actually stopped in her tracks, the light on her tail flashing a few times. "Hmm? What's wrong, Sparkle?" Miharu asked, stopping once she noticed that Sparkle wasn't with her anymore. "Do you hear something?"
The Flaaffy nodded her head and closed her eyes, ears twitching as she continued to listen. It was no sound like the electric type had ever heard before. It was very melodic, as though someone were playing a violin nearby, but the sound was far too complex to be that of any man-made instrument. "Flaa!" she cried excitedly, reaching up to tug on Miharu's hand. "Flaaffy flaa!" Miharu assumed that whatever Sparkle was hearing was too keen for her simple human ears so she allowed the Flaaffy to pull her in the direction indicated, which was off the path they were currently following and into the woods.
"Uh Sparkle, where are we going...?" Miharu asked a bit dejectedly after a few minutes of ducking and weaving branches and fallen trees. The small girl received more than her share of scratches and scrapes to her bare arms as well but she refused to show that even stung a little bit. All at once Sparkle stopped, her ears twitching again as the sound grew louder. Louder enough, in fact, for Miharu to pick up on it too. "What is that?" she asked, pulling out a handkerchief and holding it up against the worst of cuts on her arm. "It sounds like... music." The duo continued further into the woods, now both intent on finding the source of the strange music.

"Ralts?" Riza called out, slightly unsure of what had just happened, and was now scrambling for her pokedex. The Pokemon that elegantly stood atop the mud pile had the same colouring as Ralts, but her arms and legs were much longer and a lot more nimble, plus she'd grown to nearly match Sneasel's height. Sneasel had stopped dead in her tracks as the evolution took place, and all at once she knew that her newly evolved friend could handle it and she backed off accordingly. Meanwhile Riza was still trying to dig her pokedex out of her bag and had temporarily forgotten to give her Pokemon an order, but Kirlia already knew what to do. She gracefully began to spin in place, generating a current of electricity like before, and she eyed the Krabby as she let it fly, promising herself that this time she wouldn't miss. With seemingly practiced grace Kirlia stopped her spinning and pointed at the crab, sending the bolt of electricity flying. The crab could do nothing but get blasted head on by the thunderbolt and it went tumbling pincers over feet through the sand. When it came to rest bits of static clung to its body but it shook it off and quickly scuttled towards the water in a hasty retreat.
"Ah hah!" Riza declared triumphantly, having found her pokedex at the last possible second, once the battle had already ended. "All right now we're in business," she mumbled, flipping it open and pointing it at her Pokemon, who was now walking, no, dancing, towards her, with Sneasel by her side.
"The Emotion Pokemon, Kirlia. It is said that a Kirlia that is exposed to the positive emotions of its trainer grows quite beautiful. It controls its psychokinetic powers with its highly developed brain. If this Pokemon's trainer becomes happy, it overflows with positive energy, often dancing and spinning about."
Riza took a second to absorb that information and closed the black mini computer. "I'm rarely happy," she mumbled, watching as Sneasel tried to imitate some of Kirlia's incredibly graceful and intricate dance steps. "Leave it to me to find a Pokemon that is directly affected by its trainer's emotions..." Riza shook those thoughts away and smiled down at the two Pokemon as they neared her. "Congratulations, Kirlia," she said, her voice sounding perhaps a little too cheery. "I bet you're much stronger now," she added quickly, now sounding a lot more honest. Kirlia nodded and did a perfect pirouette, which caused Sneasel to clap in appreciation. Riza really didn't feel like training anymore, as now she was worried about how her feelings would affect Kirlia in the future. "Come on guys," she said finally, taking out her phone to peek at the time, and pretending not to notice the half-smiling-yet-still-grumpy picture of Crenu that was still set as her background. "It's getting late, and I need to get some supper so I can start getting ready for tonight." Remembering what Keegan had said about making fun of all the lovey-dovey couples that would be attending put a smile on her face and she started towards the pokecenter in town. * * * * * On the other end of the line Lena laughed. "Oh Katie, relax, it's nothing like that," she said dismissively, seemingly knowing what her daughter was thinking. "It's just that you left so abruptly this morning, and-"
"I didn't leave 'abruptly," Katie interjected in an annoyed tone. "I'd picked out today a long time ago. I've been planning this for months, Mother!"
"That's not what I meant," Lena sighed. "You just left before we could give you a proper sending off, is all. We know this is important to you, Katie, and we wanted to show you our support."
"Oh," was all Katie managed, realizing she'd been wrong about the premise of this call. When her mother said 'we', Katie knew that she meant herself as well as her long-time fiance, Geoffry. Geoffry was the closet thing to a father she'd ever known and the man cared for Katie like she were truly his daughter. Geoffry and Lena had been engaged for several years now but never did settle on a date, though both seemed happy enough to just remain in the engaged status.
"We got you a parting gift, but again, you left before we could give it to you," Lena went on. "So, knowing that Oreburgh was probably the first place you'd go, I sent Geoffry to bring it to you. That's the reason I had to call the center and make sure you were actually there."
"Oh," Katie said again, now feeling a bit stupid for being so rash with her mother. She decided to change the subject. "What kind of gift?" she asked, now incredibly curious. "Is it something from the new fall line?"
"No, it's not something you can wear, Darling," Lena said with a shake of her head. "It's a Pokemon egg. Geoffry and I had it specially bred for you a while back and we received the egg this morning from that adorable little breeding center in Solaceon Town. Geoffry should be there, oh, about now." Before Katie could ask what kind of egg it was, the pokecenter doors opened with a whoosh and Katie turned to look around and sure enough, a ruggedly handsome, tall, and well-built man was striding through the front doors, carrying something wrapped in a grey blanket under one arm. Mother and daughter said their goodbyes and Katie rushed out to greet him, followed closely by her two still squabbling Pokemon.

This time on her trip back to Lilycove Riza got lost several times while looking for the pokecenter. Kirlia finally put a stop to their aimless wandering by teleporting them back, something she seemed to be a lot better at now that she had evolved. Riza put both her Pokemon back into their balls before she entered the center and gave Kirlia's ball to the nurse. "She just evolved and I think she's pretty tired," Riza explained before going over to one of the vending machines and getting herself a cold lemonade to drink. There seemed to be something happening nearby and Riza turned to see the black haired boy from yesterday, Kilik, and the purple haired girl with the Gardevoir, Mitsu, examining a strange Pokemon Riza had never seen before. For a moment she considered going over to say hello but her anti-socialness got the better of her and instead she shied away towards the couches, annoyed to see that there weren't any free. She would have had a spot to sit had one person not been hogging one all to himself. Frowning Riza marched over to him and nudged him in the side with her foot. "Do you really need to take up the entire couch?" she asked, nudging him again. It was then that she recognized the bright red hair and she stopped for a moment. "Keegan? Is that you?" she asked, lowering her voice as she knelt down to get a better look at him. The coat was the same, and so were the very new jeans he wore. Now sure she knew it was him, she sat down on the coffee table adjacent to the couch he lay on. "Are you dead?" she asked pointedly, crossing her legs. * * * * * "Geoffry!" called Katie as she ran across the floor of the pokecenter to greet the tanned, dark haired man.
"Katie Doll!" he called back, sweeping up the girl in a one armed hug, careful not to jostle the egg around too much. "I can't believe you made it here already." He caught sight of Katie eying the bundle under his arm and he laughed. "Oh, I guess your mom already told you, but here, this is a gift from us. We had it specially bred just for you." He held the bundle, which seemed to be quite dwarfed in his massive arms, out to the girl.
"What kind of Pokemon is it?" she asked, gently taking the bundle of blanket into her own arms. "Mom didn't say."
"It's a surprise," Geoffry said with a wink. "But we're sure you'll love it. Anyway I've got to run, your mom gave me a list of things to do today after this, so I'd better get to it." He gave Katie one last hug and was headed out the doors again, leaving Katie standing in the middle of the pokecenter holding a warm, dull grey blanket. Genki and Noa were beside her now, both poking at her with curiosity.
"Okay let's sit down and have a look then," Katie said, trying to keep her excitement under control. She sat down on one of the big cushy chairs and set the egg in her lap, carefully pulling back the blanket. And there, gleaming up at her, was a bright yellow egg, it's smooth shell dotted with black spots. Without meaning to, Katie groaned out loud and covered the egg back up. "They didn't...." she mumbled, closing her eyes. "No wonder I didn't see her around the house for the last little while before I left..."The Chimchar and Starly exchanged confused glances before looking back at Katie, waiting for an explanation. Katie sighed and shook her head. "Well," she started, deciding to explain before Noa tried to peck her eyes out, "my mom has this...this...Pokemon that she dotes on all the time. It's her pet, really, and I can't stand the thing, with it's stupid red cheeks and heart-shaped tail..." She frowned and kicked at the floor under her feet. "It's a Pikachu," she said finally. "My mom's favourite Pokemon is Pikachu, and I think she and Geoffry brought it to the breeding center so they could give me her baby." Katie's expression was a mixture of disgust and surprise, though part of her was happy that her mother would think to do something like that. Katie pulled back the blanket and studied the egg again. "Well, it might not be a Pikachu egg," she reasoned, tracing one of the spots with her finger. "It could be an Elekid. Or maybe....something else..." Katie sighed, knowing she should be happy. But it was hard knowing that your mother had given you an egg containing the one Pokemon you disliked most in the entire world.

Well now, what was this? His challenger had remained silent thus far, he hadn't issued a command or anything. It was at this point that most trainers would pull out a defensive more to raise their guard against the oncoming attack or even try to go on the offensive. There were only a few moves that would hit their mark even on the underground Hitmontop with ease, but most trainers without guarding moves would try attacking the ground anyway in an attempt to uproot his pokemon, some trainers even succeed. Brawly remembered one match a while back where the challenger had successfully used smog to smoke Hitmontop out of the ground, but he still managed to get an attack in despite this. But Jaeshan remained calm and quiet, which was the troubling part. It may have been his imagination, but Brawly thought he saw the Metang gathering up some energy on his own, which made him grin. "Heh, keeping your mind tranquil is important when you're in a big wave, unsure of just how and when it'll start to collapse. You're a strong trainer alright, but we're no push overs either! Are we Hitmontop!" As if reacting to a vocal command from Brawly, there was a soft rumbling as a little hill of earth suddenly rose up underneath Metang. With a mighty cry Hitmontop erupted from the ground with amazing speed, swinging his leg forcefully at the hovering Steel/Psychic type. Though the only portion of the attack that had anything to do with the ground was over, Hitmontop's attack was still charged with the ground type attribute, something that not even Brawly would bother to question.

He didn't know for sure, but Keegan thought he'd fallen asleep in that short time he'd been at the Pokemon Center. He became vaguely aware of someone calling out to him and then nudging him, and he groaned loudly though it was too muffled to sound anything but pathetic. He hoped that if he just ignored whoever it was that was bothering him, perhaps they'd just go away. His efforts would be in vain though, as now the voice was reaching him clearly. "Are you dead?" came Riza's voice, and though she couldn't see his face, he smiled a bit.
I wish, he thought, slowly pushing himself up into a sitting position. He stretched a bit and peered at Riza through bleary eyes. "I hope not," he half-lied, rubbing his eyes to try and clear his vision. "Otherwise you'd have a zombie on your hands and I'm not sure how well that would go over with the local townsfolk." The way his body ached right now, it felt as though he really should be dead, and as pondered why he felt this way, his mind was flooded with images of what had happened earlier. "Move it," he snapped suddenly, getting to his feet and pushing past Riza before he made his way over to where the nurse sat behind the desk, busily typing away at her computer.
"Your Pokemon are fully healed," she said brightly, without looking up from her work. One swift motion of her hand gestured to a tray nearby that held the Pokeballs he'd dropped off earlier and the redhead muttered a thanks before he reclaimed them. He now had the problem of deciding which of the six he'd send back to his parents' place in order to make room for the Skarmory. After a few moments of deliberation he finally decided that either Althena or Shiva would have to go, as having two water types in the party was not only disadvantageous but also felt wrong somehow. He thought about it a bit longer before deciding to give Althena a bit of a rest and keep Shiva with him so that he could get to know the happy Sealeo a bit better. Besides, he knew Althena well enough to know that she would be quite grumpy after that last 'battle' and he figured that giving her some alone time would be best. The Golduck didn't seem to know what down time was anymore and he wanted her to learn how to relax and have fun, like she used to when she was still a Psyduck. He also decided to bestow his new Skarmory with a nickname - Alvero.
When he was finished with that he headed back over to Riza, wearing a mildly apologetic look. "Sorry about that, it's been a rough afternoon," he mumbled half heartedly, collapsing back into the couch. "What have you been up to?" ===== With every step she took through the forest, the strange music seemed to grow louder and this was the only reassuring thing in Miharu's mind as she and Sparkle continued their trek. The cuts and scrapes on her arms were now stinging quite a bit and the small girl did her best to ignore it, though pain tolerance was not her forte. Sparkle either wasn't bothered by the branches scraping at her woolly fur or she simply wasn't showing it, but Miharu was impressed by the Flaaffy's resolve to find whatever it was that had piqued her interest.
After what seemed like quite some time the duo finally reached a small clearing, practically split right down the middle by a babbling brook. The scene was quite picturesque, like something right out of a fairy tale. The scene was topped off by a boy, probably about Miharu's age, perhaps even older, perched atop a large, smooth white stone, playing a sad-sounding melody on a violin. He was accompanied by, or rather accompanying a medium-sized bug Pokemon, approximately three feet in height and mainly red in colour. It had long, black whiskers and wings, and black markings upon its body. The most interesting thing about this Pokemon was the fact that it was pulling its knife-like arms across its chest to create a very lovely sounding, yet strange melody that tied in quite well with that of its trainer. Both Miharu and Sparkle stood rooted to the spot, each lost in the haunting music.

Riza raised an eyebrow at Keegan's zombie comment and shook her head. "Nothing that a shovel to the back of the head can't fix," she replied earnestly, inwardly flinching a bit as he sat up and stretched. Just how hurt was he, anyway? He looked pretty stiff and sore to her. She didn't really get to dwell on it much as he was nearly pushing her out of the way to go over to the nurse who presumably had his Pokemon. "What's your problem? Jerk," she muttered, quickly standing up and brushing the wrinkles from her dress before she turned and sat down on the couch he'd just been occupying, shooting a glare at the moody red head's back while it was turned. While she waited for Keegan to do whatever she pulled out her phone and quickly sent a message to her older brother, more or less letting him know where she was now, and that she'd had a Pokemon evolve already. She waited patiently for a reply but it didn't come, and she could only assume that Jaden had turned off his phone or the battery was dead and he just didn't noticed it yet, the latter option was far more likely than him turning just it off.
When Riza looked up again the nurse was waving her over and she quickly jumped up to get Kirlia back, still quite elated over the psychic's evolution. She opened her lemonade and had a few sips before she ventured back over to the couch, she'd left her backpack behind in hopes that it would get the message across to other patrons of the pokecenter that this spot was taken. She'd been sitting for no less than thirty seconds when Mr. Grumpypants himself came back and flopped back down on the couch next to her. She smiled slightly at his weak apology but decided to let it go. "My afternoon has been interesting, so far," she said, shrugging. "I got a new tm for Ralts, and we went down to the beach to test it out. She evolved into a Kirlia while battling against a Krabby." Riza wondered why it was such a struggle to make her voice sound happier than she felt, which was the opposite of happy. Why shouldn't she be happy? She'd had her first Pokemon evolution, after all. "Oh, I also picked out a dress for tonight, and I think you're going to like it," she added in a bit of a singsong voice. Again when she thought of the upcoming evening it sent a twinge of anticipation through her, though she didn't know why.

"Your Ralts evolved? Congrats," Keegan nodded, looking over at the raven-haired girl seated next to him. The news of the evolution made him forget to ask his first question, which would have been 'which TM did you buy for her?'. A light smirk crossed his features at the mention of her new dress, but he shook his head. "Just friends, remember?" he reminded her, though he couldn't help but be curious as to what she'd be wearing tonight. As far as he was concerned she could show up in that same white, fluffy towel and look just as good. He closed his eyes and berated himself mentally. "You don't have to worry about impressing me. Let's just have a good time tonight, all right?" A pang of guilt stabbed at his heart then and he frowned at this. Why should he be feeling guilty? He had nothing to feel guilty about. Or so he kept telling himself, anyway.

Riza smirked, having expected Keegan to respond like that. She wanted to believe him when he said he didn't care, but if he was like any other guy out there, then there was a part of him that definitely cared, whether he chose to admit it or not. "All right, let's just have a good time," she agreed, though unable to quell the excitement she felt. "Oh, and thanks," she added after a moment or two of silence. "I think that Kirlia will be a lot more confident now that she's evolved." She went silent again, quietly sipping her lemonade and listening to the overlapping chatter around them in the pokecenter, though there was too much of it to actually pick up on anything discernible.
Deciding that the lemonade was too sweet she screwed the cap back on and stuck it in one of the side pouches of her black and white knapsack before looking over at the red head again. "So what was so rough about your afternoon?" she asked finally, unable to contain her curiosity any longer. "Did you get beat up again?"

"What, no!" Keegan retorted sharply, causing a few heads to turn in his direction, though he paid them no notice. "I did not get beat up again," he hissed, keeping his voice low. "I caught a Skarmory this afternoon, and a couple of guys tried to take it from me," he explained, trying to keep the frustration out of his voice. "Their Pokemon were much tougher than mine, and well, if it hadn't been for this old guy..." he trailed off, realizing the old guy was now nowhere to be seen. He must have left after Keegan passed out on the couch, not that Keegan would blame him. He kept going back to that moment where he'd guessed the Aggron's type wrong and knew full well that it had been the mistake that cost him the battle. Not that his Pokemon had failed, he'd failed them with his lack of knowledge. Lack of knowledge. That was something that he was going to fix, and right now. He stood up quickly, a little too quickly, perhaps, because it made his head spin a little and he had to fight to keep his balance. "C'mon," he said suddenly, reaching a hand out towards Riza. "There's something I need to do and I want you to come with me." The words and tone of his voice surprised even him, but he didn't renege on them. He continued to hold his hand out, waiting for Riza to either accept or tell him to take a long walk off a short cliff. With or without her company, he was going to get a PokeDex.

Riza had been listening intently to Keegan's story, knowing full well that he'd acted a lot braver than she would have been, had she been in the same situation. Again she thought back to yesterday and how Crenu had protected her, and for a moment that feeling of helplessness overcame her. She closed her eyes and shook it off, wanting to say something helpful or at least nice to Keegan, like "oh hey glad your Pokemon didn't get stolen" or something like that, but no words would come. 'I really need to work on my people skills,' she thought, looking over at Keegan and forcing a weak smile. 'Really, really.'
When Keegan jumped to his feet it caused Riza to cry out in surprise, and it took a moment for her to register what he was saying before her mind could even begin to ponder a response. She stared at his hand as though it were alien and growing an extra thumb before she blinked and smiled. "Uh, sure, okay," she said finally, accepting his hand and allowing him to pull her to her feet. "So, uh, where are we going?"

"That's a good question," the redhead responded quickly, letting go of Riza's hand and scratching his chin. I guess the best place to find one would be with one of the professors, and obviously Professor Birch is the closest, being in Littleroot Town, he thought. "To Littleroot Town," he nodded, having made the decision in his mind. He snatched up Alvero's Great Ball from his belt and the HM disc that contained Fly from his backpack, and he applied the disc to the ball in the same manner he'd seen some of his other friends do it before. Both the disc and the ball seemed to glow for a second and Keegan could only assume (and hope) that the knowledge of carrying passengers had been passed on to the Skarmory within.
He motioned for Riza to follow him and he headed outside, where he released Alvero. The Skarmory blinked a few times and looked around before his gaze came to rest on Keegan. He narrowed his eyes for a moment or two, but the Pokemon seemed to relax a little after a moment or two and he nodded at Keegan, already aware of what his new master wanted from him. Keegan turned to Riza, smiling broadly. "How do you feel about flying?"
