Chalda Kori Elzix Waaaaait a minute... All teachers in BC are on strike??? Does that include college teachers? Cause if it does, I'm SO not going back on Tues. Did you have school on Friday? I don't think it includes college... my fiance is in a private college but he's still having classes.Uh nope... But I don't ever have classes on Friday's. That's alright though. It'll be nice to get back to my own place I suppose. Does the strike include the alternative schools?

Chalda Sense it all depends on what the things are. Some things you just can't have and you have to deal with it. People can't come back from the dead. You can't go back in time and change something you said. There are lots of other things you can have. You can lose weight even if it's hard. You can go to school if you work hard for it. You can have a successful relationship with the right girl. These things are all possible with hard work and patience. You know as well as anyone that if you want our help you are going to have to give us the gory details. It's just the way it works.
I'll stick to vauge ranting for now. I might post a thread in LI sometime within the next month or two if I need advice. I'm not sure yet.

ButterBalls Increased my running to 5.0 Miles? Kilometers? Or has California adopted some new, different system of measurement that the rest of the United States will call 'Head-Up-Assius'? No offense, ButterBalls.

Thomas Neo Anderson ButterBalls Increased my running to 5.0 Miles? Kilometers? Or has California adopted some new, different system of measurement that the rest of the United States will call 'Head-Up-Assius'? No offense, ButterBalls. Well, in the metric system it's 8.0465. In Imperial it's 5 miles an hour. I was doing it at 4.5 25/30 minutes. Now I'm doing 25/30 minutes at 5 MPH.
We had a Perfect President activity in Civics. It was such a good project. And we had a journal on, "Do you think minorities/women will be presidents?" And a sub-question was how soon why or why not.
It was kind of interesting the views of why they shouldn't be. Especially since the examples were coming from those "type" people. For example, a woman in class said women shouldn't be president. Never seen that happen before.

Not quite the same, but still.

I'm in a pretty foul mood at the moment. I just paid a s**t load of money to get my laptop fixed, and the keyboard is pretty much busted. The 'h' doesn't work unless you pound the s**t out of it, all the other keys double up and so I don't even realize it until I'm like, done a ******** paper. This is so ******** frustrating. I have to go back to school tomorrow, so there's no way to get the damn thing fixed. I'm also pissed that I paid a s**t load of money for something that hardly works. ARGH!!!!!!
Sorry for all the swearing folks. I'm just in a really bad mood.

Well, I haven't fully read the book. I read the intro and 1 chapter and after all of that I strongly recommend reading "Using Terri" and I'm not even one for reading books. It's written so well. Kind of like he's talking to you. I think I can make an inference today that my genre is definitely non-fiction. Also, I think it's more of relevative issues.
Oh, and just from what I read the book is basically about a guy speaking out because he's kind of pissed off at the religious right. I suppose it's a good book because I agree with him. xd Anyway, I think some of us know the case. The wife that was on a feeding tube because she had no motor skills and she would be on (easy example) a respirator all her life or until she dies basically. The book, from what I've read right now, has brought up the right-to-die in the sense that should someone be able to pull the plug or not.
Right now it's brought up his own personal experience relating very close to what I know about the Terri Schiavo case.
And, just as a personal comment, I think it's quite funny how the religious right seems to be spending millions of dollars to influence our judicial system. That's all I'm going to say without offending anyone. God forbid. xd

My perfect president is an independent agnostic. Soleq, if you see this it'd be nice to know the pros and cons (mostly pros) of having an independent agnostic president.

The obvious pro is that he/she wouldn't make decisions based on faith. That would suggest a more utilitarian standpoint, but not necessarily. Utilitarianism does align itself more with agnosticism, but it's really up to the individual to define the fine details.
I think independents are snakes in the grass. In most cases, people believe in one thing or the other: you're either pro-choice or pro-life, you're either pro-gay marriage or against it. Sure, there's varying degrees of how much you support either side, but it's a rare day where someone is dead on in the middle. I do realize that some people just plain don't care, in which case they probably wouldn't have enough gumption to run for president. So, while independents claim that they're middlemen, everyone has an opinion on the issues, so why not say so?
Honestly, an independent president would scare me, but that's mainly because I feel rather strongly for the Democratic party.

I think it would be great to have an Agnostic President, because 'The Seperation Of Church And State' is bullshit. I don't mind people using religion as a moral compass or anything, but when they are so blinded by religion that they immediately vote for the Ultra-Christy candidate there is something wrong. An Agnostic President would bring a very good, and new feeling into out Government. We'd finally have someone in there who wouldn't be making his decision based off Religious Morallity, or the fact they have to oppose the Religious Morallity in order to have a chance to get elected.
When it comes to having a president, or any elected official, I vote for who I think will do the job better. I'm not blindly voting for one party, but I generally do have more in common with Democrats.

Well, we'll likely never see an openly agnostic president for quite some time. The reason is simple: an elected official is supposed to be a representative of the populous, and with a religious population, there's no way in hell that a non-religous person would be chosen (i.e. elected). I honestly think the best non-religious president I've seen so far has been Clinton, even though he's technically "religious." It's an unavoidable technicality that religion is.

These threads are pretty standard. So are spam threads and post-your-own-picture threads. Hence the names.
