'My name is Salem.' A warm, deep voice resounded in the area, but it was not a physical voice. It was mental. The cat neatly arranged his paws in Leila's palms, his tail curled around her wrist, and he gently licked then bit her ring finger. A distinct tattoo curled around the base, flowy and graceful, and recognizable as runes that linked together.
Leila smiled, dark eyes sparkling, and looked between Serene and Breeze. "Treat him as a man, Serene." 'I am no less.' Salem's voice reverberated again, rich and proud. He looked up at Leila, his bright blue eyes betraying something of emotion in them. She leaned down and brushed a kiss on his nose before turning her attention to Breeze again. "It's OK if you don't remember me. I didn't look like this the last time I was here, and it was a very long time ago."
Leila looked around, reveling in the feeling of being home again. Her eyes caught the figures of two men standing still at the tower, and she tilted her head slightly to the left in her curiosity. "But Serene? Who are they?"

Nice to meet you Salem. Serene instinctively responded telepathically. Kinda like how when a person speaks to you in a different language, your first instinct is to respond in that language even if you know they understand and speak another language. Can I play with you like I kitty cat when I turn kitty? she asked hopefully, for those times in which she chose to be kitty were now ever rarer since she had no one to play with since Vad had taken his kitty with him.
She looked over her shoulder at the two who she'd almost forgotten were still there. "Oh, those are Spike and Casedy, or Cas. Apparently they're being unsociable and refusing to come here, though Cas asked about about you briefly before I came bounding over here.

Salem looked at the girl-child that seemed to mean so much to his love, blue eyes piercing and strong. His tail flicked for a moment on Leila's wrist before he looked away. 'On occasion. You may play as you wish. I will not always play back.'
Because Leila loved this girl-child, Salem could not help but make her happy sometimes. If he didn't, Leila would be angry with him, or sad for her, and neither made Salem feel good.
Leila shrugged when Serene explained who they were. No consequence, she didn't think she knew or had met either before. She smiled brightly at Breeze and Serene before putting Salem down. "It's been a hot and dusty road, I need to bathe." She looked down at the black cat, arching his back on the ground in front of her. "I won't be long, Salem. You will stay, won't you?"
'I will, my love. At least until dawn. I still have much work to do.' His voice now was for Leila's ears alone, and neither Serene nor Breeze would hear his warm voice. Leila nodded, successful for the most part at not showing her disappointment that he would not stay long enough. But she understood his purpose, and knew it was for the better.

*Feeling a little out of place just standing beside Spike, he begins to make his casual way towards Serene. He didn't overly trust this new woman and her pet, they radiated an aura that made them appear separate yet one at some points, and wavered with power that was unusual to him. Without speaking, he nods to the new-comer and he pet as he takes his place beside the one he secretly swore to stand beside when he built the Obsidian Tower. One mental gaze at it's perfectly smooth and shining surface reminded him why he came back.*

Spike, never being the social type made his way back to the tree he was leaning against to resume doing just that. His head tilted back, his shades faced the sun as it peeked out over the tower. As he shoved his hands in his pockets, he'd sigh lightly to himself.

Leila flashed a brief smile at Casedy before turning around and meandering to the beach. Slowly, she peeled off her garments, dipping further and further into the cool water as the layers came off. Salem trotted close by to watch, his tail curled neatly around his paws and blue eyes fixed on Leila. His expression betrayed nothing.
It didn't take Leila long to wash. Salem pulled out a light dress for her and dragged it to the water, and she put it on when she came out. The fabric clung to her wet skin, but she didn't seem to mind. She squeezed the water from her long curls before walking back to the tree she'd partially claimed to sleep under. Salem stayed close by.

*A cocked eye-brow would have suggested that his attention was grasped by beauty...if it weren't for the fact that he had lived as an undead being for the better part of his very unnatural life. Really, he cocked his eyebrow at how this woman seemed so at peace with the natural world. His gaze turned to Serene, hoping that an explanation would be forth-coming.*
Is this female one that I can trust? I have never met her nor heard word of her...*His thoughts make their way to Spike, hoping that further answers could be obtained.*I mean, I know I have been gone a while...But this one is strange to me, and I've seen much.

Serene grinned at Cas as he turned his attention to her with a slight quizzical expression. "Leila is one of nature. Her mind doesn't hold the restrictions of those who grew up in peopled society," she explained, sitting down cross-legged under the shade of the tree as Leila returned from her brief wash. She reached up to Leila's curls, silently asking to braid the tresses as she remembered that after being wet, the curls could become unruly and braiding always helped to keep it tame.

Wordlessly, Leila sat down in front of Serene, with her back and hair to the girl, allowing her to easily reach and comb her thick hair. Salem took the opportunity to climb into Leila's lap, finding a nice spot to sit between her crossed legs, and resting his head on her thigh.
Her hand rested lightly on his head, and feeling thus at ease, Salem began to doze lightly. He knew he had a busy day ahead of him, hard work was an old friend of his, and Salem was engaged by him for at least many weeks to come.

Spike remained silent and offered no respose to Cas' telepathic question for some time before he sent back his message. "I highly doubt she could pose any sort of a problem to these lands given her apparent nature...Besides, if anything does start." There was a short pause before he continued. "How many beings do you know that could win against you? The island's guardian." Even though the message was telepathic, the final three words carried the impression that if said aloud, Spike may have smirked saying them...that is if Cas didn't know him any better.

*A little twitch of his lips curling into a smile was his only response, not that it would have been noticed by many anyways. With that, he took to keeping his faith with Serene and trusting she knew what she was talking about. With that, he began to head back silently to his obsidian tower.*

Serene's hands went to work, brushing through Leila's wet curls delicately and deftly weaving them into a braid both complicated and simple. She hummed happily as she worked, also weaving in ribbons the color of her dress and baby's breath flowers. She finished and used the excess ribbon to tie it off. She sat back examining her work and smiled satisfactorily.

Leila reached back when Serene had finished, and allowed graceful fingers to lightly run down the long braid. She pulled it over her shoulder gently and looked at it, then smiled softly and turned to face Serene. Salem hopped as her legs unfolded, and leapt onto her empty shoulder.
"Thank you. You always were talented at braiding hair." Her voice was soft, and she didn't seem to notice or find importance in the imposing male, Casedy's departure from the tree she had claimed for the time being.
But now it was getting late. Salem needed to depart early in the morning, and Leila could feel gravity pulling her limbs to the ground as sleep pulled her lids down in a parallel motion. She yawned and stretched a little before lying down. "I'm sorry, Serene. I need to sleep..." Salem purred softly and jumped to the ground to allow Leila to lie down with her head on her pack. The cat-creature allowed his blue eyes to linger for a while on Serene, as if searching for good or mal-intent. Satisfied, he lay down beside the beautiful gypsy woman, his head beside hers, his paws in her hands, and his tail wrapped around her wrist.
'I wish I could be sure of your safety here.' Salem's voice whispered into Leila's mind. She allowed heavy lidded eyes to close and cuddled close to the small black cat.
'You can be, love. This was once my home, and it can be again. But perhaps if you're so worried for my safety, I should come with you?' Leila's own mental voice was hopeful and a little sly. She ran her thumb down Salem's spine appealingly.
But Salem stiffened. 'No. Absolutely not. You're safer here than with me.' His voice was cold, and took on a slight growl. But his muscles relaxed afterward, and his whiskers twitched and his own piercing blue eyes closed too. 'I will be back, my love. And soon, perhaps, as the man I was when you met me. The man you love.'
Leila sighed softly. 'Man, cat or winged horse. I love you just the same.'
But Salem was already asleep.

Spike stood still for a while, enjoying the light breeze blowing around him. Finally deciding it is time for him to depart, he turned away from everyone and began walking, his form becoming slowly transparent until he was no longer visible.
