:::She noticed that this guy was beginning to break the natural personal barrier...and wondered if it was normal. She tried not to budge:::

Uhm... lessons? :::She still looked nervous...like a mouse being cornered by an expecting cat:::

Lessons...for pool, you mean? Well, this is just my...my first time playing. I don't think I'm skilled enough to teach anyone else how to play...I just...

:::She looked over to Luke, and stopped talking. She caught a lump in her throat seeing that Luke didn't notice that she could really use some help:::

Your first time? *He laughed out loud again.* Yeah and I'm the Queen of North Korea.

*It made no difference that there was no Queen of North Korea - he just kept going.*

Don't hold out on me. Where'd you learn how to do that? C'mon, I know you went somewhere. What's the big deal? Just tell me where.

There... there was never a queen of North Korea...

:::She stammered...but herhaps it was a strange expression, so she changed the subject quickly:::

I learned it.... I just... it was easy really. Luke told me that I had to get all the balls of one format into the holes on the sides and corner, all except for the black ball which goes last. I had to calculate the surface friction of both the balls, and the table top, as well as the weight of the balls and from there I could gauge the point of resistance and rate of acceleration crossed with the rate of resistance, also roughly gauged. After that I predicted the path of all the balls after having colided with one another in the correct fashion. Once I plotted the best possible solution I would translate that into angle and force of the stick.

:::she looked down:::

That's why I can't get all the balls in... I'm not a machine, you know?

*The guy looked at her like a second head had spouted up from her neck.*

*It took him a second, before he said.* Luke huh... *He got out his wallet.* Where can I find him?

Here. *takes out a bill* I'll give you twenty bucks.

*Luke must have overheard the sound of his name, because he turned around and appeared by Cora's side in the next instant.*

"Hey, buddy!" *He put out his hand - again - this new guy shook it - just like the last.*

*Luke addressed the man, before he could get a word out.* "I'm Cora Serenis' agent, Glenn Snackwell. I'm sorry, we're done here today with betting, but try us next week. We'll be back here, same day, same time. Bring your money."

*The guy sputtered.* "Yeah, but I just wanted to know--"

"What're you drinking?" Luke asked suddenly. "Heinekin...Guiness?" Now Luke was taking out his wallet.

*The guy was caught so off guard that he answered.* "Michelob."

*Luke walks briskly over to the counter and throws down a twenty.* "Three Michelobs please, for my friend over here in the gold chains!" *Luke grinned and extended his hand --- The man shook it slowly, confusion taking over his face.* "Here, you go. On the house. Remember, next week, alright?"

"But, I-"

*Luke pat him on the back.* "Thanks for letting us go, man. You're a lifesaver."

*As he looked away, Luke saw a small group of rather displeased looking gentlemen. They'd lost quite a bit of money to Cora. They were huddled together, pointing over to Luke and Cora ... *

*Yeah, it was definitely time to bounce. Luke bounds away and back up onto an empty pool table.*

*He addressed the crowd in a loud booming voice, like a Ring Master.*

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! IT HAS BEEN A PLEASURE - NO, AN HONOR TO BE WITH YOU HERE TONIGHT! THANK YOU FOR COMPETING! THANK YOU FOR PAYING UP! AND THANK YOU FOR CONTRIBUTING TO CORA THE CANADIAN POOL PRODIGY'S COLLEGE FUND!!"

*Luke looks around the bar. He jumps down off the table and leads Cora away. He grins as he remembers a line from Shrek.* "Have a wonderful evening! We're here 'til Thursday. Try the veal!"

:::Cora was way too relieved when Luke bailed her out of the conversation, that she didn't even begin to try to understand how he did it. Next thing she knew she was being led away again, and Luke was adressing everyone in the place by talking at unreasonably loud volumes. She sort of watched him in awe, and thought about how this was indeed how they did things centuries ago:::

:::When he came back down to her, and kept her walking from the crowd, she double checked with him:::

Are we finished working?
PostPosted: Mon Aug 22, 2005 8:30 pm

*He hurriedly them past people and out the door of D''Angelo''s, before their little stunt backfired.*

Absolutely, this is the part where we leave.

*The door jingled merrily as they left the pizza parlor.*

*As they hurry down South Street, Luke looks behind him. No one follows them out... And when they are far enough away and dispersed through the crowd, he grins at her.*

That was genius, Slim. Pure, ******** GENIUS.

Well... I wouldn't really call it that...

:::She mused over it:::

I explained it to that man who was talking to me all I really did was...

:::And she began to repeat word for word the process that lead her to their success that night:::
PostPosted: Mon Aug 22, 2005 8:34 pm

*Luke lets her go and then cuts in as soon as he can.*

Yeah, yeah, but that doesn't matter.

*He digs into his pocket and pulls out a WAD of money. He shows it to her.*

You're a ******** genius.

:::She looks at the wad of small, flat rectangular peices of fiber, and recongizes it as money:::

Is that a large sum of money?

:::She had no real way of knowing, and thought she'd ask. But she'd suspected from Luke's persistant beaming that it was indeed a lot of money:::
PostPosted: Mon Aug 22, 2005 8:41 pm

Gimme a sec.

*Luke counts it out ... There's a large collection of ones, fives, tens, twenties, and even a fifty - from a rather persistent sonuvabitch.*

$287 dollars. *says it again* Two-hundred and eighty-seven dollars.

C'mon, say it with me, Slim.

:::She felt a little foolish having to repeat the number with him, and she smiled a little embarassedly:::

two hundred and eighty seven dollars...

:::she finally said. But now this begged the question:::

What are you going to do with it?

:::She asked, with genuine curiosity:::
PostPosted: Mon Aug 22, 2005 8:44 pm

*Luke rolled it up and held it out to her.*

I'm gonna give it to you.

:::She grimmaced a little as he handed it in her direction:::

Luke... I... I have no idea what to do with it. I don't really want it.

:::Her society ingrained in her for a long time that money was really a very bad idea. Even if she didn't like to think of herself as part of that culture anymore, she couldn't help but have a bad impression of capitolism:::
PostPosted: Mon Aug 22, 2005 8:48 pm

*Luke made a noise.* Are you kidding? Slim, you're the one who earned it.

Besides, you don't want me to keep it. I'd just spend it on things like alcohol and lapdances.

:::She shrugged her shoulders:::

alchohol isn't bad though...

:::but tilted her head immidiately afterwards:::

what's a lap dance?
