Umm... I just ordered the Battle for Macragge set. And i want to be the tyranids. I read up on the stradegy from different sites and stuff. But if i were going to expan my army after that set which models should i buy?
Some gaunts, maybe some genestealers. Always start with a good alotment of troops. Then maybe a tyrant or a Carnifex once you've got 30 or so gaunts and stealers.
Tnkz. i'm going for a 1000 point army right now. Cuz that's what my freind has.
Cool. 3nodding

With the new codex having come out and the new rule for an army of big giganto Tyranid guys instead of the normal swarm tactics and everything, I believe that the Tyranid's will definitely be the army to get nowadays.

But i like swarm.

What Tyranid player doesn't? xp Swarm Tyranid's is the s**t, but what I'm saying is before the new codex, that's mostly all of what Tyranid's could do, now they are much more versatile.

that's awesome. But what is codex?

A Codex contains the rules that you follow when you create your army for a game.

Would you rather trust your opponents on the stats of your own units? "Oh, a carnifex? It has toughness 1, and a 6+ save." Its only 15$ for a codex, thats not too much.

I agree with DarkElf. If you want to play the game, theres no way around it, you NEED a Codex.

Besides, you get what you pay for; GW is expensive, but the models are superb, and the fluff is damn good, same with 'gameplay'.

I am willing to pay it. And i will get them. I'm just slightly irratated. Don't i have to get the official rule book and the tyranid codex?

thats generally the idea. But if you know generally how to play and your opponent has a rule book it's not a big deal. Just make sure you got the basics down and have a damage and to hit chart at your disposal and you should be set.

You definately want to have the codex infront of you when you play (and make the models for that matter) thatway you know that your army is legal.

Yeah. It's easily worth the money. 50 dollars isn't that much for what you're getting.

If you have the Battle for Maccrage set, you don't really have to buy the $50 hardcover rulebook. The mini rulebook in the set has all the main rules to play the game in exactly the same format from the hardcover. The only things it is missing is all the fluff text and all the optional game variant rules. You will however need the Tyranid Codex, which is $20 US.
